I'm looking for a .22LR target revolver with adjustable sights and a 6" barrel, minimum. I'll have between 4 and $500 to work with. I have no problem buying used. Any suggestions on what to look for? I'll have NO money to add, so I'll have to work with what I'll have.

I would look for a used Smith & Wesson Model 17 with target sights and hammer, trigger. These always seem to shoot extremely well. I believe you can get one for under $500, although as I get older things just seem to get higher priced. Cheaper would be a Ruger Single-Six and they shoot well, but an older Smith & Wesson just screams quality to me in the fit and deep blueing and are well worth the money in my opinion. Good luck

Second what 218 Bee said about the K22. I've got one with an 8 3/8" barrel, and Ima luvin' it! Used to have a 4" barrel (didn't love that, it went). Accurate? Unbelieveable! No, it's not fer sale.

You should be able to find a used 6 shot 617 in that price range now that the 10 shooter has been in production.

I'm also a long-time Smith man, and have three 6" K-22s, made in 1931, 1940 and 1952. Throats measure from 0.2256 to 0.2276 for all three. My early Colt OMT measures 0.2221 around the cylinder and locks up tight and aligned for all six. It'll put five rounds into 1/2" at 10 yards from a hand rest, with CCI Green Tag.

I think you'd be well served to include the Colt in your searches. I love the old Smiths but shoot the old Colt.
