Anyone else have issues with the powder measure leaking on their Dillon 650's. I have mine loaded up with H110 and it seems to leak a little out the back of the slide with every pull of the handle. Tips, Tricks all appreciated.

H110 and 296 are fine ball powders and will leak a little in the dillon measure along with H335 and a couple
of others.
There's no stopping it, just deal with or use something else.

Buy a better measure -- Hornady is a good choice.

Arredondo Powder Drop Slide

My tuned Dillon measures drop better than my Harrels.

On the 650 I highly recommend the following items and mods:

Reaming and Polishing the powder funnels is the biggest improvement

I recommend the bearing kits. Reduces powder spillage. http://hitfactorshooting.com/products/products.html

Awesome. Just record your mic settings for your powder weights. Very repeatable
http://www.uniquetek.com/site/696296/product/T1231Knobs are OK but the Uniquetek are way nicer

More mods.

Stops leaking with super fine powders like Vectan SP2

This is the one I use for Vectan SP2

Do you think the bearings kit makes that much of a difference? I have a 550b and did the polishing and have the Uniquetek installed. I also added two powder baffles.

On a 550b I don't know. On the 650 and on the 1050 it prevents powder spillage on almost full cases. With the 550b you can control how hard the shell plate snaps into position.

I had seen another similiar setup and was curious. I don't have a powder issue so...

Doesn't do a thing-Learn how to correctly set the case holder and a drop of oil-Your good.

It leaks out the back of the slide not the funnel......... Nothing to do with the funnel or the bearing kit. I have no spillage out of the full cases as I have smoothed the action of the press nicely. Thinking its a tolerance thing but keep the great suggestions coming.

How old are your measures? Could the powder slides be worn? None of the 4 measures I have leak. I've used H110, AA#5, AA#9 and AA 2230 all of which are fine grained powders. Maybe call Dillon on Monday and speak with them. Doesn't sound normal to be leaking from the rear of the powder slide.

Thanks for links to the mods. I've been lurking over at the Dillon site but could not find links to improvement mods for the 650. I shall check these links out.

Press is only about 6months old

That unique tech slide looks very nice and seems like it would take care of the issue but $100, going to have to figure out a excuse for the wife again........

The Arredondo Powder Slide WITHOUT the micrometer from Arredondo is $38.50. I purchased from UniqueTek since I really like their micrometer. I use them on all my measures. I load a lot of H335 and I don't have a leakage issue with any of my seven measures with H335. I did have some leakage with Vectan SP2 which the Arredondo Powder Slide cured.

I haven't used H110 in a very long time. I don't remember how it compares to H335 but unless it is super fine you shouldn't have leakage. Give Dillon a call. They may replace it. If not the Arredondo Powder Slide worked for me as claimed but is is the small slide and 15 grains of W231 is about max.

Interesting topic. I don't have problem with my Dillon powder measures but most any piece of powder equipment can have a problem if a very fine grain powder is used. BTW shouldn't this topic be in Reloading rather than Casting?

My Harrells, Neil Jones (don't have it anymore), Redding BR and Lyman 55's all have issues with fine flake powders or really fine ball powders. These don't work well in most measures. Thin flakes or small ball powders get between the drum and body binding things so smooth operation becomes impossible. Measures that have slides like the Dillon tend to leak some. I have not tried any of the real fine powders in my Belding & Mull powder measures. I only use them for black or IMR 4759.

I have not tried Quick Measures yet http://www.quick-measure.com/index.htm

Over at Brian Enos forum, I've seen the suggestion of using a piece of scotch tape as a shim to tighten up the powder bar for 296/H110.

I did this fix on Lee auto disk, and have used it on my 550b for years. I just like the case activated Lee.

I have a 550 and a 650 I have never had this problem I have put 500,000 plus rounds thru these two presses no leaks. I would call Dillon techs I would check the thickness of the slide and the opening it fit's into to see how much play there is
