hey folks, had a great casting session last night, however, there is a small amount of smear on both the top of my mould blocks, and on the bottom surface of my sprue plate.

What is the best way of cleaning it off both surfaces?

Thanks, Gregg :castmine:

I clean mine with steel wool while still hot.

Heat with handheld small propane torch and wipe off with either clean ALL COTTON rag, not polyester or steel wool. Even a bronze gun cleaning brush will work.

Use BullPlate lube on your molds and if you get any smearing it can be wiped off with a rag or even your (thick leather) gloves while casting.

Another way to get rid of lead smears on mold blocks and the bottom of sprue plates is to rub the smear while hot with the corner of an ingot such as the ones made with RCBS, Lyman or Lee ingot molds. Usually the little 1/2 pounders from the lee vresion will do the job well.
