for the BP and buckshot youll want that nice soft lead. never hurts to have some lead WW on hand either incase you want to do a 50/50 mix.. I would suck up as much as you can. scrap lead price at the cheapest here is .55/lbs and for good soft lead 1 to 2 bucks/lbs depending on what they have on hand

I would buy everything I could get in soft if you are making mostly shot and ML bullets. Honestly I would probably get a dent in my forehead if my local yards had those kinda of prices and I could cover whatever they had. My wife would kill me.

Just paid $0.85 a pound for soft lead so I'd say its a steal.

GOB, You ever run a shot maker? I have.

For ML the soft, Unless you are shooting boolitz in sabots Then the WWs become perfect.

But for shot making WWs are the proper alloy to use, NOT soft lead, even clay busters use hard shot. I have spent many hours feeding a Shotmaster, made everything from 8s to 5s. even made my own drippers.

At those prices, get as much as you can afford of both!

Around here soft lead is the easier to find in scrap yards, with WW's the more useful lead for pistol or rifle bullets I would be stocking up on that WW lead. ML tends to be lower volume shooting too so less need for as large of a stockpile to feed those.

Actually I haven't. I have done swan shot and drop shot, but not run a shot maker. When the OP asked though I was thinking about buckshot which I have always cast using as close to pure lead as I can get.

Make sure that the $.40 per pound wheel weights are all lead and not steel or zinc.

My scrap yard here sells ww at .40 per pound then you take back all the zinc and steel and he will buy them back. he gives .60 a pound for zinc and .20 for steel. get more ww's and he will owe you money. it maybe different where you are.

local scrap yard is lead $1.25 #. It is all lumped in to one category. Pays .35 #. I did get a large bar of A T& T wiping solder for the 1.25 price.

If you can sort the clip ww, I'ld buy 1000# today. The clip lead ww is almost a perfect bullet alloy for any handgun. They wont be around for much longer. There will always be pure lead.
