Just ordered one 10 minutes ago and the wait is killing me.

Steel framed, this bad boy is going to see a lot of work. My nephew has 10 kids who get to shoot one magazine once every blue moon.

They can shoot all day with this pistol and it'll cost about 8 bucks.

The .36 is a great caliber for the kids, but right now Cabelas has the .44cal 1851 on sale for $199!
I have the .36 but my brother has the .44 and it is a much better handling gun. They use the same frame and barrel but the bigger bore .44 is lighter out front and points much better.
Loaded down, it would be easy on a kid with smaller hands than an adult.

I have some fairly small kids who will be using this so I believe that I'll stick with .36 for now.

This is not going to be my last cylinder loading pistol. I have wanted several of these for a very long time.

Easy to load down, as you can use a small bp charge and add a filler like cream of wheat to fill the cylinder and seat a ball. No worry with fillers in bp revolvers, just keep the load tamped down and no air space.

Does anyone have any useful loads under 15 grains, the published minimum?

Texan ... any load can be used as Hickok mentioned above. 11 grains is just about a mouse fart in these revolvers in 36 cal. just fill the chamber enough to compress slightly with cream o wheat or grits to ensure the powder does not migrate thru the filler. have fun as I know you will.

I just picked it up!!!? I can, without fear of error, state that this is the most beautiful pistol that I own.

Gonna take it for a spin this week see how I do with it. I can't wait.

I'm curious why you chose Pietta over, say the Uberti or Pedersoli brand. Cost or availability?

Cost was a consideration and a lot of good reports from our forum members.

Although I have not been a pistol shooter in the past, I tend to regard pistols as being annoying, I will be buying more of these early pistols, they appeal to me and between making my own powder, casting boolits and making my own percussion caps the cost to shoot weekly is going to be about 2.5 cents per shot possibly less.

One of the problems I have had with pistols is that all of the prettiest ones were the first ones. Aesthetically, it has been downhill
since 1870 or so.

So yes, I will buying Ubertis, Pedersolis as well as Piettas in the future.

If you like that one you might really LOVE the Pietta 1858 Remington replica in .44 Cal. Spare Cylinder is NICE also. Keep an eye out for sales at Cabbalas.

The 1858 Remington did catch my eye. I believe that I will start a new envelope for that very revolver.

Pretty gun, a real beauty.

+1 on the 1858 Remington. I admit the Colts have nicer lines, but the Remington points better for me and is so much easier to get a proper sight picture.

60 Army and the 61 Navy are also in the mix. Beautiful revolvers.

Maybe a Navy in brass frame for formal occasions. I think it would go well with my tux.

Does anyone use 2fg in their revolvers? I can't find any 3fg in town.

No problem using 2Fg in a revolver. You might lose a couple percent of muzzle velocity, but it will be just as much fun.

Thanks. I do not want to use subs at all. Not as much fun.

Your comment was exactly as I had thought. So off to the ranch this weekend!

I took out the 51 Navy and I am extremely pleased with it. It is now my favorite revolver.

I learned a great deal about these pistols and percussion caps over a period of 4 hours and had a blast.

It was a very good day.
