I'm thinking of getting a new mold. It is to be used in an 03a3 as issued 30-06 (2 groove) on 500 meter rams. I've been reading up on the Lee 230 gr. AAC Blackout design. I need a heavy weight, decent BC, and all the velocity I can get. Any suggestions?

That Lee bullet is designed for subsonic use. Its not a Gas Checked design if memory serves. That would be hard to drive fast.

Looking in the Lyman Cast book, I would ask about the Lyman #311284 bullet, its 210gr, GC, and has a BC of .332.

That table shows it driven to 2327fps with AA5744

I've heard of people using that mold and gas checking it and pushing it pretty hard. They say it will stabilize at 1800fps in a 1:10 twist. Faster twist or higher velocity with slower twist needed to stabilize. Don't know it the TL design can be pushed that hard unless coated

The Lee 230gr mold is the worst mold and boolit design I have ever used. I have tried it with and without a gas check at velocities from 800 fps to over 1,800 fps. Wasted alot of lead, powder, and primers trying to get it to shoot under 2 moa without success. I even drilled out one cavity to make it a plain base.
I would recommend a conventional boolit design of 200gr or a little more.

A fellow does real well with the 314299 over 24/2400 on the 500 meter rams at the club I shoot silhouettes. The key with that bullet is that the bore riding portion fits the bore snuggly.

It weighs about 208 grs in w.w.+2% tin and has a decent b.c.
