He charges the standard hazmat and shipping by weight, and to be honest this is retail powder pricing As much as I want it I cant afford it right now
unless some Reno guys want to go in on some jugs :)

70$ a jug would make it worth it but @ 100$ it's a bit high for ordering 6 too knockout the hazmat.

I have a feeling any fast pistol powders would be similarly priced.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Sounds good. As much as I would love a jug it's not worth it for me either.

I ended up paying around $20 a pound delivered. Far better than I can do here for the Unicorn 2400 if it were available. Works for me, thank's for the head's up.

Seems it would be best ordered by the case with hazmat removed (since he offered no hazmat on a case). Sure you are taking a chance, but after figuring in case price, to the west coast, it comes out about $15.50/lb. Around here, 2400 has been trading hands for double that.. If you burn this stuff in large amounts, well, it's not a bad deal really.

If I had the $$$, you get no Hazmat at six kegs. I could only afford one.

If you can not find 2400 then this is not such a outrageous price. The last 2400 I saw was some what higher.

Just got off the phone with him. He's got less than 400 pounds left and going through over 100 pounds a day in sales. I'm betting its gone before close of business Thursday.
If'n your gonna get, best get now,,,,,,,,

If you ever make it to Ky, we'll put you up a week or so and take you to all the sights. Im in the same county as knob creek where they have the machine gun shoot, but i've never been as I cant afford a machine gun, and going would make me want one.

I doubt PV will be at that same price when it comes in again.
PLUS, Jeff also has a powder similar to IMR4831 for a sweet price also (less than $9 per lb, even when I add the appropriate portion of shipping fees to it).

All I can say is, I placed my order ;)

Dad and I called him last night and arranged to meet him at his place this morning. Got lucky there. He only had a couple hundred pounds, it was over-sold, and he wouldn't be getting anymore.

Interesting guy. He's got a lot of misc stuff that isn't listed on the website and it's worth trying to get a hold of him if you need something in particular.

Got a call from Jeff... The powder isn't 2400; it's an SR4759 clone which is useful for me.

It was 2400 but that was a different lot, different lot now shipping is SR4759. I just got an email from him on this. Wish I had got the earlier lot.

Bought 6 jugs from him with 30CalTy; picked it up there in Owensboro. Guess we've got a lifetime supply now of 4759...I use it in all the 30's 'cept the Carbine, plus some lite wt loads in .35 Remington, .38-55, .45-70, .25-20, 32-20 and .32 Special. Just wish it were suited to shotgun use as well...(I can dream can't I?).

Looking forward to cross checking burn rates with the new stuff vs. some of my loads using his previous batch of 4759 and the original SR4759. Gunna be a busy spring and summer.

Gave my .38-55 to son, 30CalTy, along with a lifetime supply of brass, he's a lever man like his old man...that 4759 is about perfect for that long, straight case. My work up with one of Lyman's molds gave me close to minute and a half gps at 100 with a tang peep mounted.

Also got a surplus jug of Herco for the same price. Lot's of loads in the mid-range for pistol and revolver with this one....again, a busy spring and summer is indicated.

I've shot a lot of Jeff's powder over the years, especially his surplus 4895, and #9...both exhibit burn rates very close to the original. Jeff's a great guy to deal with, especially in person. Honest as the day is long....Rod

Please give us an update when you do that. His original email to me said 5744 or 4759. Big difference. Follow-up email did not mention 5744. Hoping it is 4759.

I still have some surplus 4895 I got from him a while back in an 8 lb jug. Good powder and he is good to deal with.

01-09-2015, 12:37 AM
H870, slow burner, works great in a duplex load in my 45-70's which saves a lot of $ on powder & saves the other powders I have on hand to use with other guns.

1989toddm
01-09-2015, 12:41 AM
That's a real slow one! I have never tried duplex loads, but maybe I will if it works in 45-70.

ballistim
01-09-2015, 12:49 AM
Look up 45-70 duplex loads with WC860 by 9.3X62AL, I just substituted WC872 for WC860 and used IMR 4198 for the kicker., great accuracy & inexpensive, I use the Lee 457-405-F that drops from my mold at .459 & size to .458, both my barrels are .457, I've used WC860 too but WC872 was cheaper & worked just as well for me.
