Just as a head's up, in case no one has already mentioned it...

I found a 10qt dutch oven with lid, no legs... flat bottom, at Academy Sports for the stiff sum of $9.99. I think that is a regular price, but didn't verify that.

It seems to be a pretty good size for smelting, unless you're gonna be doing hundreds of pounds at a time.

If anyone wants to send me 20 or 30 lbs of WW, I'll test it to see how much it will comfortably smelt..... just for research purposes, of course....[smilie=1:

I searched the Academy Outdoors website and could not find the dutch oven. Is there anyway that you could post a link to it? Thanks.

Mine that's about that size will do 70 lbs - comfortably (not full yet).

I haven't looked at the website.... I was cruising through the store going to look at my anniversary present (Yildiz O/U shotgun) when I found it. I'm pretty sure it was in the camping section.
This was at the Academy in Plano, Tx...

A 10 quart pot 3/4 full (7.5 quarts) will be 175 pounds of lead.
