In the spring I'm going to Newfoundland for fishing and black bear. I'm sort of bear gun poor, from '06, 325 WSM, 375 H&H, 458 Win and probably a few others. I've shot lots of cast in all but the 325 and I'm thinking it's my pick for this hunt.
I'm about to spring for the NOE mould. I have shot lots of 311465 and 311467 in my various 30's but never the 311407 of which this is just the 8mm version. I also like the flat nose, like the 31141 which is probably my 30 favorite. Just like your thoughts on this boolit and combination. Anyone hunt with a 325? Any experience with cast in 8mm?

I'm confused by what you mean when you say you're "bear gun poor." Any of the cartridges you listed are fine for black bear. The 325 WSM should be just great on black bear, but if it was me I'd go for more mass, 200 - 215 grains. Note that a 200 grain 8mm bullet has the same sectional density as a 180 grain 30 caliber bullet.

note that this rifle has a short throat, and correct diameters.
don't think 8 mauser boolits, think closer to 32 win special in shape.
either way you'll be tossing 170-80grs of lead at @ 1950 fps, unless you have Tom cut you a mold based on your throats shape.

Thanks runfiverun, you sent me for more research...stickies tips for new rifle casters and how I do a pound cast. I'm going to stick with a 30-06 for now. I did a pound-cast a number of years ago for my 30-40 Win 95 with great success, using 31141. As I recal I shot some 2 in groups, and considering my eyes and receiver sight, I was pleased. I have a Browning Model 95 in 30-06 so I think I'll put my thought of the 325 on hold and work on this one. I've been doing too much revolver work and need to get back and learn some more about boolits in rifles. I have a lot of nice 30 cal molds (31141,311284,311467,311299). Maybe the 284 or 299 would be good for the '06 and black bear...
Thanks, Don
