i'm going to shoot cast bullets in my win m94 in 30-30. also i have a 1898 spingfield armory in 30-40 krag. the krag shoots .311" bullets and the m94 shoots .309" bullets. is it alright to shoot .311" thru both guns? or do i have to shoot .309" and .311"?
i'm asking becuase its hard for me to do both(buying cast bullets) while i'm on social security.

thanks!!!

My default CB diameter for the 30-30 is .311, load up a dummy and see how it feeds and chambers. Question is will both rifles like boolits of similar weights and profiles.

I have not done it, but Why couldn't a guy buy the larger of the 2 and a cheap lee push sizer if needed. I have never sized any commercial cast boolits, but don't see any reason a guy couldn't.

Use simple calipers to measure the inside diameter of the fired 30-30 case. Taking care to reach past the crimp in the case neck mouth. Fired case has been expanded to chamber dimensions then sprung back .001" or so. Dependent upon brass hardness and spring back. Given the variation in case wall thickness and bullet diameter. I'd want to see a .312" minimum inside diameter of fired case neck to load a .311" boolit. To assume a .002" release clearance upon firing. To make tolerances tighter than that you need to start measuring and neck turning to qualify every case. IMHO

My two 30-30's wont' take anything fatter than a .310" boolit. But most others will.
