I was wondering if anyone has tried this powder for reduced loads. I can find load data for titegroup , unique & 2400. AA#5 is slower than titegroup but faster than 2400,can't remember where unique falls in there. I'm shooting it in an encore and using a lee Bator mold. I've tried titegroup and the groups were good, I'm just looking for a bit more velocity. Shooting for 22 mag velocities.

Shooting for 22 mag velocities.
Try 5.5 gr Acc #9. Gives me ~1800 fps.

I've never seen data for AA#5 with reduced loads. Post if you find info for us to look at.

You "should" be able to use AA5, it is slower than Unique though. I have used Bullseye, Titegroup, Red Dot, Unique, 2400, 5744, and 1680 with cast boolits in my 223 Rem. Contender.

I dont know if these will help or not, but here are a couple articles of reduced loads.

I've seen somewhere on the net someone said 6 grains and a 55gr cast bullet. That was the only mention of AA5 on reduced 223 loads. I can't find that now

It's real close to IMR4756. The starting load in a 222 for a 55 grain bullet and 4756 is 6 grains. If I had AA5 to use, 6 grains is where I'd start.

Would a reduced load such as this properly cycle a semiautomatic action (ie 5.56 AR/AK)?

Probably not. Not enough gas to operate the bolt. I use this in my bolt gun. You could single shot them in the AR's though.

Hmm, thanks. Was thinking a reduced load would be nice for use indoors when I gotta familiarize new shooters to a 5.56/.223 rifle without drilling through the backstop or going to a frangible projectile.
