Just found a H&R 30-30. It's got the transfer bar action, color case-hardened(foney), with a mannlicher stock/forearm.

I don't recall this configuration. Looks like a fairly good job done of it, if it is retrofitted.

Anybody know of this configuration being built by H&R after the transfer bar action period started?

I know it is probably a SB1. I would buy it for "as is" if I did buy it, so not worried about other barrels; yes I know that is not a factory option any longer.

Asking price is $275, a little higher than I want to pay for it. If they won't budge, they can keep it.

I'm fairly knowledgable about Handi's, but not with this particular configure.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Harrington & Richardson came out with the transfer bar action some time in the late 1970's I believe, before they went broke. As far as I know, all the H&R 1871 and NEF production had the transfer bar.

IIRC the Mannlicher forearm was on the Model 157, the Model 158 had a standard forearm. I do not know if they made any of them after the bankruptcy or not. I liked the looks, but the only ones I have owned or been around very much had the short forearm.

Incidentally, every transfer bar, except one, I have seen has eventually broken. The one that hasn't is in my Turkey gun a 3½" 12 gauge, which has maybe 20 rounds through it. The good news is Brownell's carries the parts, or at least they did when I needed them.

There is a serial number to manufacture date cross reference floating around on the web somewhere, but it has been two or three computer crashes since I have seen it.

Price wise? I have no idea.

Mannlicher stock was available for purchase separately from H&R at one point in time. At least two stock companies still make them for the H&Rs. If you like the rifle buy it. If you don't. Don't.
