Hello Folks,

My six-inch Dan Wesson 44 has a Leupold 4x scope mounted so the rear of the scope is even with the rear sight, and the front of the scope is about one-eighth inch behind the muzzle. The front lens is being badly fouled by combustion byproducts. I could move the scope back 0.8 inch, or even 1.6 inch, but I don’t want to, it just looks perfect where it is.

As a work-around I’m considering taping a business card to the bottom of the objective lens. This would probably solve the problem when I’m shooting a lot of ammo in practice. For the one shot on game, I’m not concerned.

My question is, how have you dealt with this yourself? Is there something I’m overlooking?

Take care, Tom

I don't have any revolvers caring glass so take my point With that in mind.

Point being, the combustion products don't tend to deposit much on surfaces. The lube products deposit heavily and they are sticky. Reason being is the length of the hydrocarbon chains involved.

A different lube might make a large difference in what sticks to your front window.
