I picked up a used Lyman 45 sizer from Scrounger but have no idea on how it operates. Anyone out there have alot of experience with one, or maybe an owners manual I could borrow to copy.

You could go to the Lyman site and print a copy. If I am not mistaken the basic design in the same as the 450 & 4500.

Calsite. The #45 Lyman sizer differs from the #450 in only these ways.

1- It doesn't have the leverage of the #450, and so larger, harder bullets are more difficult to size.

2- The sizing dies are held in with a set screw, instead of a top nut, which is more user-friendly. No chance of cross threading the nut, and more acess to the bullet with your fingers, an important feature with short bullets.

3- The piston which puts pressure on the lube isn't an O-ring design, and allows some lube to ooze past. No problem, the #450 piston fits the #45 and is available from Lyman. I've changed my #45 piston with it.

4- The top punch is held in with a knurled head screw and needs no Allen wrench to tighten.

Other than these, I can find no difference, except the #45 is really a neat old design, with a wood handle. I've got two #450's and a Star, sold one of my #45's but will never part with my last one.

Thanks for the info, I kinda figured Lyman would probably just try and improve the 45 and call t the 450 and so on. I may just have to change out my lube piston though, thanks for that tip. I've got thick piece of aluminum plate that I've planned to mount under the sizer for a heat sink, another suggested of using a heat lamp to warm the sizer. I'll have to get to the Lyman site and get to printing thanks all for the replies.

Use the wifes curling iron. It's one of those wand looking critters with the bristles. My wife wears them out (the bristles) pretty fast but the warmer part still works. I just plug it in and lay it down alongside my 45. Works good for Lars red.
