I have 2 nice .45 Hawken barrels, both shoot .440 RB with 18 thousandths patch great and the 225 gr TC Maxi well. I never saw a TC .45 Maxi hunter, wanting something around 300grains that should shoot in the 1-48 twist. I have 2 of the old Ideal Bullet molds, for .40 BP cartridge, makes a slug that weighs 300 and 380 grains for the 2 different molds. I have shot the 300 grain, out of a 38', 1" green mountain custom drop in, with a fiber wad underneath it, and iron sights, at 50yds shot a ragged hole, and penetrated to hell and back! I think out of pure lead, this would be awesome on a deer. Just thought I would post this and see what you guys thought.

I am betting no ... reason is that a .408 or so ... even a .412 is going to require a ton of thick paper to patch up for your barrel and im thinkin that is may blow by the paper BUT ... no way to know without just giving it a try. would like to hear about your experiment.

I am with the others that ain't going to work. If you did find paper thick enough to make it work the tendency would be for the bullet to not stay as straight going down the barrel. You need to look for a bullet that is at least .442 depending on the thickness of the paper. My .451 Green Mountain likes .446" bullets but it is a 1-30 twist.

it may be one of those barrels is one you bought from me. I shot a 250 grain .440 paperpatch bullet in it and it would cut center at 100 yards with 100 grains of real 2f black behind it. 60 thousands wad between powder and bullet. send me a bunch of 250 grain soft lead bullets that would fit in a .440 swageing die and I will swage them up for you to shoot in those barrels. they load easy and shoot straight and shoot hard hitting.

if ya get-r-done at all you'd likely have enough paper involved to set the woods on fire:veryconfu.
