I am considering getting another 54 cal muzzle loader and was looking real hard at the Pedersoli side by side,it has a 1/24 twist.
Would that be a good choice for R E A L boolits and conicals? I do not shoot plastic out of my muzzle loaders.
FWIW I have a 54 cal.Thompson Center Hawken with a 1/48 that shoots them real good rite now.

Use the biggest one you can get ( longest) and it will shoot just fine.

The ones I am using now are from Accurate
Tom designed the 360 gr that I started with and it shoots famously and I designed(actually modified an existing design) a 430 gr one that has yet to be range tested

I'd like to hear more details about these REALs in a fast twist. I have a 1/28" in-line (ONLY one) I want to cast my own for. Thanks.

I've used them satisfactorily in everything from a fast twist T/C Thunderhawk to a roundball twist Lyman Great Plains rifle & others in between. the heavier/longer ones in fast twist & the lighter/shorter ones in roundball twist. both have worked well in my traditional T/C's with the 1 in 48 twist.

I shoot the 250g 50 cal REAL a lot in my 1:28" CVA Optima Pro lubed with 2:1 Beeswax:Vaseline and something between the powder and bullet.

I say something because I have tested a lubed felt wad, overpowder card, wad and card and one session when I didn't have anything, I wadded up sections of paper napkins and rammed them over the powder. All seemed to shoot equally well with zero leading. I've used Blackhorn 209 and Alliant BlackMZ. BH209 is superior, but BlackMZ costs half as much and when simply making smoke and punching paper, it works "good enough".

Don't be afraid to use a plastic dead blow hammer to coax the bullet in with the short starter.

It's a lot easier on the palm of your hand than whacking it. Even with dead soft lead, that top driving band is thick. Once it gets started, it rides down the bore like it's on rails (which it is) and the lube really makes an airtight seal, so much that I have to go slow and steady with the rod or else it bounces back up.
A picture of some early shots I tried out with the REAL and BlackMZ

I've had best luck with real black powder. I have tried them all.

I believe the 2 molds referenced are the 55-360A & 55-430M.

These are fairly short bullets and would work great with any twist faster than 1:48, unless you want to shoot them very slow. These are tappered bullets to facilitate easy loading. You still need to measure your bore size so you can specify the optimal band dimensions. I haven't tried these in my GPH yet, but I'm planning to buy the 55-430. The Lee 360 R.E.A.L. (55-360A is based on this bullet) works well, just can't be pushed too hard with it's skinny driving bands.
