Sold my drift boat in less than 24 hours and bought a Marlin Cowboy 1894 in 44-40 even before the money was in my hand. I bought this: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=458697245

Hope it is nice. Don't know why I had to have it, but I did. I do have a Colt SAA with cylinders in 44 spl and 44-40, so it will go nicely with it.

Right on! I have one in .38/.357 with a 24" barrel. It was my dads. Super slicked up action and really nice trigger. Way better than your average box stock 1894. You will love it! Congrats!

Thanks! I have a regular 1894 in 44 mag/spl that we had slicked up for cowboy action shooting. Actually, had 2, but sold one. Those have really spoiled me. Might have to have this one worked on.

Very nice! I have a 24" ltd cowboy Marlin in .45 colt and love it. I like the way the barrel tapers and it feels slim and trim compared to my 24" Rossi and 24" 1860 Henry. I really love them too though, and wouldn't part with any of them. .44-40 should be a good caliber for that rifle.

If your happy with your purchase that's all that matters. But, them JM-Marlins sure are gaining in collectors value. Maybe I should get me one. Oh~~~ I do got one now that I think about it. Model 36. 30-30. Wish it was a 44-40 though.

Yes I do! The day you buy it and the day you sell it. Hadn't used it in almost 8 years, so thought it was time. An aunt used to say a boat was a hole in the water you threw money in.

That is a fine looking rifle. I really wanna get another short throw lever gun one of these days, I really miss my 454 rossi and marlin 94 357.

Bigarm,

The ad says it has a "hex" barrel, is a six sided barrel worth more than an eight sided? Just kidding, very nice rifle!

Yes, either the guy can't count or confused hex with octa!

And a motorcycle is just an expensive bug-killer. But life is good when you are in or on one. Especially when headed to a good hole or range!! Nice looking lever. I hope you have enough spare change left over to get a matching six-shooter for a companion.

Ain't it an elegant piece of hardware. I've had 1894s since the '70s and really like the 24 inch Cowboy, but just bought a pre safety round barrel 44 magnum.
