Hello friends,

I have a Marlin 1894 CS with a microgroove barrel. Have any of you tried the NOE 360-160 WFN in your Marlins? I am leaning towards the 160 gr plain-based mold. I also like the looks of the 360-180 WFN but for now I am looking for reviews of the 160 gr boolit.

Thanks in advance,
Steve in N CA

My 1894C didn't ahoot great with that bullet. It wasn't bad but not as good as I wanted. My rifle has such a short, sharp throat that it does horrible with any swc. By horrible I mean 6 inches at 50 yards is a good group!
My rifle shoots really well with the MP Moulds 359640 HP.

Ain't but one way to know what your rifle will like and that is to try it.

My favorite for my 1894c is the NOE 360-180 wfngc over 14.5 grains of lil gun. The 180 is laser accurate!

I have not shot my 360-160 plain base through it yet.

In that weight range I'd try to find a MP359640. It falls in the middle at 170 grains. Overtop of a healthy charge of H110 is my hunting load. It feeds like butter and is very accurate. I can't comment on the NOE molds because I haven't found a need to buy one.

I can't comment on the 160gr boolit...my Ranch Dog molds for my Marlin 44's are very good shooters,265gr boolit +- bought several before he folded his tent. Mine all like FAT Boolits .433/.434
Have you ask NOE if they have something close to his design? They were all made with the Marlin in no throat in mind.:redneck:

Mine likes 180 WFN to 215 SWC really well, just bought that mould and will be trying it. Mine is micro groove as well.

Are you sating that you have the 360-160 WFN mold? If you do, what size are the bullets as cast?

Thanks

I have it sitting on my on my desk. I hope to get to cast with it this weekend. I will let you know how it casts and maybe how it shoots.

Here is what the 180 looks like in water jugs

Here is what the 180 and the 357 mag 1894c microgroove can do at 150+yards!

I will let you know how it does on deer the week after Christmas. Keep your eye peeled in the hunting section!

Merry Christmas

Outstanding, thank you for the info! I will check regularly.

To every one else that has replied: a big thank you.

I am considering buying the 180 gr version but I wanted some input from folks that have and use the 160 gr version.

There is a 180 version for sale in swappin and sellin. The post says it is NIB. It is actually the exact mold I have. Good luck.

I have way too many moulds, but the NOE 180 grain WFN is a favorite. IIRC I have both plain base and gas check cavities in it. (I didn't do much shooting and less casting while the divorce was going on.) Gas checks ain't free and I stay low for loads used in both rifle and pistol for the most part.
The boys over at marlinowners are really hot about 170 grain plus in the 1894 in 357 mag. Do a little reading BUT cross check against published data from Hodgdon, etc. and start low.

Mine drops .3612 very regular at that size. Had to give up on the long HP pins, until I learn to use the mould.

Hullo mattw...keep your Pins hot on a hot plate, or use a burnzo torch to pass them in good luck:cbpour::cbpour::redneck:

Mine likes the Lee 358-158-RF with a PB gas check and somewhat stout charge of 4227 or H110. My mold drops around 162 grains.
