Trying to make slug loads w/Lee 7/8oz Drive Key & ?? Hulls-help pls.
The dia of Lee 7/8 oz slug & this wad petals still require [dimensionally that is] use of a CYL choke. However 3-Gun stages often require use of birdshot & slugs in same stage, i.e. no time for shoke changes.

Anyone have experience shooting this slug thru, say, MODIFIED chokes without damage & decent accuracy?

I was hoping to use my stock of 2x Remington Greenies, but that seems problematic, as attempts to stack 20ga spacers, etc to build a good wad column were ugly & time consuming. My quest led me to purchase 250 Federal 1x & some internal components just for this straight walled hulls from Ballistic Products. I didn't know I needed straight walled hulls to load for slugs & their accompanying 'spacers', et al.

I'll be 'playing' with this 'lego' set now. Thanks for watching. I made the 1st reload with above components & stating with 20gr of Unique. I'll load 15 rnd batches using 15gr to 20gr loads @ 25yd indoor range for grouping. They don't allow chrono's to be setup, so waiting for a nice day outdoors.

Still concerned about flying that "Drive Key" soft lead slug thru tighter chokes like a Modified. Anyone stretch their muzzle using this slug?

Wally

I have shot them through a browning w/modified choke. As for accuracy you'll have to test them in your gun. Lots and lots of loads on this forum to choose from.

My modified choke trap gun puts my tactical pump shotgun to shame when shooting Lee slugs. Just be sure they're (relatively) pure lead and they are in a thin-walled wad, and they will work surprisingly well!

I use 38.2gr of HS-6 with a gray WW wad and WW hulls. My use has been in a rifled barrel though.

I have been using them with a WAA12 and about 17grn of Titewad. I generally shoot them out of my Mossberg 930 with an IC choke, although I have used them with a Modified too.
