As the heading says, I ordered an "Accurate" mould for my Enfield P14.
I chose a diameter of .314" (+/- .001"), and a bore riding nose diameter of .304" (+0.000, -0.002).

I have never ordered a custom mould like this before and I am just curious what some of you think of my dimension choices.
My goal is to get the "Accurate 31-200L" (close to a 314299) to shoot into sub 2"group territory at 100 yards.

Here is a bit of background info:

I have shot This rifle with j-words into 1" to 1-1/2" many times before. The bore is in excellent condition.

My rifle shoots the 180 grain Lyman #311291 boolets into around 2-1/2 to 3" at 100 yards and a velocity range of 1400fps, with a diameter of .311. This diameter of boolet surprised me to be honest.
The noses for this 311291 cast out at .303".
I took 10 different of these boolets and fit the boolet noses into the muzzle end of my P14 Enfield. The noses that measured .303 fit in just loosely. A few noses that measured .3045" fit in with just a little pressure. This is why I chose a mould that produces a .304" nose.

I have no way of measuring a slug from this barrel due to the rifling being a 5 groove.

I am hoping that .002-.003" larger boolet diameter should only help in the accuracy department.
I have a .313" H&I die for my Lyman lube sizer as well.

What is your thoughts my fellow BOOLET shooters?

I am surprised! No responses yet! Hmmmm!
Well here is an update on shooting my 311291's yesterday.

The target is at 100 yards and I used the original peep to shoot these groups in my P14.
The caliber body is covering one boolet hole (around the 1" mark of the caliber rail). This group is distinctly double grouped. It was horribly bright and sunny today! With all the snow it was brutal on the eyes!

The sun went behind a few clouds when I shot this second group. The target came into super sharp focus, so I took advantage of it and shot my 5 rounds.
I was a little surprised to see the cast boolets shooting this much better than the previous load! Time to go out and confirm this load combo! This kind of result is very encouraging!

This rifle shoots these boolets so well, I hope it shoots the larger custom moulded boolets as well!

I'm very interested in what you're doing, and hoping to learn and apply it to my .303 Brit rifles. I have been using a Lee 160gr with a GC sized to .314,and it works well, but I need to get something with a blunt nose instead of the spritzer I've been using. Just wish I had something constructive to add to help you.

Should work well. Tom makes a awesome mould. I think I would have gone with a 0.305" nose though be what you have said. It would have rode the bore a little better. But without a chamber impact slug to see the measurements of the throat, it is hard to say though.

Thank you for the responses guys. The thing that puzzles me about the 311291 boolets that I am shooting, is that the boolet shank is definitely undersize for a typical 303. Maybe by .001- .002"ish. Only the gas check is .313" after I pass the boolet through my lyman lube/sizer. The boolet noses are .303".

I am only guessing that the noses are of sufficient diiameter to keep the boolet aligned with the bore, and the pressures are not high enough to squeak past the gas check yet. I was just playing with these boolets until I get the "proper" mould from Accurate moulds! I was not expecting them to shoot this well! Conventional wisdom says a boolet has to be .001-.002" larger than bore diameter to shoot well! Strange isn't it?!

I am hoping that the "Accurate Mould" will shoot as good or better, at a higher velocity. I hope to get around the 2000-2100fps range with the new boolet.

I shoot a 314299 in my P14. I think you'll find the accuracy level your looking for but I wonder about the velocity levels. Mine starts to open up around 1700fps. Let us know how it goes.

You bet! When I get the mould, I will cast some and put them to paper.

I just order the same mold from Tom too. Keeping my nose rider at 303 but the bands to drop at 315. I have a .314 H&I sizer and smaller. I will be using it in a number of my Mosins for now. When we get our molds Dthunter we will have to exchange notes. Merry Xmas to you all.
