im the new owner of a Heavy molds 62g 225 6 cavity . anyone come up with a good shooting load for a 1/7 m4 carbine? I have a pretty wide selection of powder to use. eventually I wanna try them at my local 3 gun shoot after I get them shooting consistently. im gonna make up a bunch tomorrow and load some for range play on sunday

I don't know that you'll be able to get a round together with enough power and accuracy to stay competitive.

That's not to say it can't be done. The ride can be fun. Will be interested in your results. If 19 grains of varget will function your gun you may find accuracy somewhere thereabouts.

its a short range course (only out to 100) as long as its minute of 6in plate at 100 ill be good, just gotta make it function reliably,

getting ready to go out and warm the pot up

My MiHec mold produces a heavier bullet (69gr) for use in my 20" 1-7 twist ARs. I use 23.5gr of IMR4831 for 2" groups at 100 yards. More than accurate for your popgun range requirements ;) (I'm a Highpower match shooter so the 3-gun run&gun matches aren't my preferred shooting but I figured a little shot across the bow would be good for morale).

This load functions the rifle fully and locks the bolt back when the magazine is empty. If you are shooting a carbine, you may have to tweak the load a half grain or so for 100% functioning. velocity over my chronograph is at 2100fps so it should tap your targets out to 100yards without being blown all over the range.

thanks bruce, i don't mind a little friendly banter, I only shoot the 3 gun for practice, they only have a few a year here in my area. 100 yards is the maximum ill be using at the shoot, most will be 50 yards or less with shooting around obsticles and out of car doors, under car, weak side , etc

I shoot long range sniper shoots, solo and team out to 1200 with my 2 308s , 2 300 mags and a 338 lapua. my buddy placed 8th at the ultimate sniper shoot this year, im going to be his partner for next year

I shot hi-power( 200 yd reduced )and now 3 gun. We shoot to 500yds every match and usually from some odd position. Last year I had to make a 500yd shot from inside the back seat of a SUV with child windows halfway rolled down, I got lucky and got it 2nd shot. Match before that, a barrier with 2"x4" hole about knee high, no prone allowed. I don't shoot cast in rifles at 3 gun but I do own the hm2 mold, 18.5grs h4895 has worked so far, runs around 1800fps. I stopped loading lead for a few months in .223 to concentrate on other projects but plan to revisit this with PC in the future. Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

one of the matches I went to in kenly NC , (Juniper Swamp shoot) we did a line of sight shot. there was a bench with a piece of cardboard covering the whole front except a spot to left and right to range from (passive only no rf's) about 18in up. there was 2 targets at 525 yards, a 10x17 up high on the berm and a 18x24 down at left base of berm. you had to mil how many over and down to the larger target. then when in shooting position on bench, you couldn't see the target you had to hit and just barely see the 10x17, the rise in the field hid the other, so you had to do the mil hold and send it. out of 28, me and a active duty marsoc guy using his issued equip (m24 300 mag) hit 3 for 3 on it.

I know all about off positions, at one 3 gun shoot, we had to shoot from under a car onto a 6" ball target at about 75 yards,

they dropped with coww at 61g and .227-.2275

Jupiter,
are you running checks or just pc? I have reloader 17 that my buddy said is the same as h4895

excess,
are you running alum or copper checks? I don't have rl7, I have rl15, rl17, rl19, varget, benchmark, 8208xbr, imr4227, Imr4198, Imr3031, Imr4064, imr 4320, Imr4895 . according to the chart, 4198 and 3031 are in the range

Originally, lead/tin/Lino mix with bens red and alum. checks. Results were okay at best and really didn't like cleaning lube out of gas rings and BCG. Results much better in bolt gun and single shots. Going PC for ease of use and cleanliness all around.

I pc'd a bunch last night, they sure look purdy in HF red. ill load some up with the suggestions I got so far and see if my carbine likes any of the combos
