Has anyone tried any T/C Contender only 32-20 loads as light loads in non-AR platforms? The case capacity of each is quite close to one another and the Speer #11 has a whole page on the 110 grain bullet, in addition to the 130 grain bullet. The loads for the 130 grain bullet range from 1,100 fps to 1,500 fps, which is just where I want to be to start. With 28 different powders listed and the larger case size of the 300, it looks like a great amount of starting data. I believe the Silhouette loads for the 32-20 will also work good in the 300, with a little tweaking.

Never tried any of those. The latest Hornady handbook has a ton of jacketed loads for the blk if your looking. So far I've only shot it in an AR so having the gas to cycle the action is a factor unless I use it as a straight pull bolt action. I've got one load using green dot and a 180 gr jacketed bullet that is almost Hollyweird quiet but doesn't even think of cycling. I'd like to see your results if you try any of those loads.

I thought the 300 AAC is more like a 32/20 magnum.

I have been extrapolating (big word) both .32-20 (.32WCF) and .30 carbine data for use in my Encore .221/300Rimmed with good results. Since I don't have a gas-system to deal with, I an working with faster burning powders. Nonetheless, I have found most all loads with WC860 are the most accurate. That is with boolits from 110 to 230 grains.

I'm not going to use jacketed bullets but I'll certainly use the data with cast. I just happened to stumble on the Speer pages for the Contender and now I'm on the hunt for heavy silhouette loads.

I started off using jacketed bullets, but boy, that gets expensive fast. I started casting with a 230 (mine drops 225)grain mold from ACE. I started with Hornady's loads and kept adjusting till I got what I needed. As you probably know less powder needed for lead than jacketed for the same velocity. I've got a good AA1680 load with that cast boolit that gives good accuracy and is still subsonic and cycles my AR. I'm starting to do some loads with IMR 4227 with the same bullet to see if it will work as well as the 1680.

My lightest / cheapest blackout load:

LC 5.56 case, 1.360 +/- .001"
CCI #400
165 grain cast
4.5 grains of Unique
1.965" oal

Averages 990 fps

Silly quiet out of my silenced bolt action, especially if the can is wet. Makes one ragged hole at 50 meters.

Just came back from shooting a handful of 311316 over 5.5 grains of IMR4756. I have my plinking load for sure.
The 311465 with 15.5 grains of IMR4227 did pretty good too with plenty of umph to cycle an action. I had some 311467's loaded with 7.5 grains of 4756 and they were a waste of components.
Looks like the 311316 sized at 311 is a winner with 4756
