I started sizing 30 carbine brass.
I found my new LEE carbide 30 carbine sizer does not like crimped primers at all! Every crimped primer pushes the decapping stem up, so every spent crimped primer I have to get the brass hammer on the LEE decapping stem to deprime the spent crimped primer.

These are some really old 30 carbine brass. I remember Dad buying this brass when I was around 10 years old, 50 years later those crimped primers are a son of gun! :) haha

Cast ~500 452460's with a Lyman 4 cavity mold. I forgot how heavy they can get after a hundred plus fills.

About two more casting sessions and I'll have enough boolits to last me a couple of years.

Threw 50 worn out 8x57 commercial cases in the scrap bucket. Made up 50 more from once fired LC 30-06. They should last forever shooting cast in them. Band sawed the initial length, annealed, full length sized, trimmed to length, tested in chamber. Then loaded them with the last of my 170g PBFN and Unique - real light "pop" loads.
Resized 100 45-70 cases and threw them in the vibratory polisher. Reloaded 30 previously prepped ones with 405g PB and Buffalo Rifle.
Installed a 3-way trimmer/chamfer head on the RCBS trimmer in anticipation of reloading a bajillion 223 cases. And to wrap up, on the workbench I re-crowned the 88 Commission rifle's barrel. It has shot OK for being dinged up, so never worried about cleaning it up before.
Then on to domestic duties after 1100.

Yesterday I loaded 10 pcs of 7.65 Longue for my new to me SACM 1935A pistol. New Starline brass, 85 gr Sierra JSP bullets normally for 7.62 Tokarev / 7.63 Mauser, and Unique. Test fired today and the rounds functioned and were near POA at 25 yds. Used a set of special-run Lee dies for the 7.65 Longue that I was fortunate to find.

I opened my last 8lb jug of Universal and loaded some 158 grain swc from hoosier bullets over 6 grains of powder. I hadn't used Universal in 357 before. It was a pleasant load to shoot. The hodgdon data center says 6.2 will get 1,247 fps. I didn't set up the chrono since I was only shooting a handful of rounds today. I hope Universal becomes available again.

Picked up an old arbor press and made it into a bullet sizer using upside down Lee dies. The ram accepted 1/2" x 13 bolts so I turned bolts down to make the top punch. Seated gas checks and sized about 200 - .30 bullets for my better halfs 30-30.

I put my 22 TCM brass in the tumbler. It’s the brass that I converted from .223 brass over the last couple of days……… cut down, anneal, chamfer, 1/2 size in a 22 Jet die, run through the 22 TCM sizing die, trim to 1.025”, chamfer again, sonic clean, dry and polish in the tumbler. Yes it’s a bit of work but 22 TCM brass isn’t very available right now.

Busy day reloading:
- 100pcs 6.5x55 for my 1902 m/96 Carl Gustaf
- 1016pcs 45acp. Mostly H&N 200gr TC, but also a couple of hundred of my own cast HG68s.

Hornady Lock´n´load AP press works great, all pistol ammo loaded with it. Rifle rounds I loaded on single station press.
Filling that primer tube is PITA. Do those commercial automatic primer tube fillers work?
I´v tried to design and 3D print tool but seems it needs motor for vibration.

I set up my new Lee APP!
Since Midway offers birthday pricing on various items in their catalog, I took advantage of such on a couple items to speed up my case prep(and eventually cast bullet sizing as well). I must say: the FW-Arms decapping die is a treat to use! The Lee universal decapping die came with my APP Deluxe kit, but the fit and finish of the FWA unit is far and beyond what Lee makes in that included depriming setup.

Now to find a powered case feeder for it, and another for feeding cast boolits for sizing. Suggestions?

In the last week, it's been 3 dozen plus boxes of 12 gauge trap/sporting clays loads and almost the same number of 3/4 oz. 20 gauge skeet loads.

With what's already on the bench in 20 and 12, plus the 16, 28 and 410 loads holding the bench down, should make it through most of the summer.

Time to switch back to the Square Deal B for 45 ACP loads.

Then it's on to the 30 Carbine.

If the 204 Ruger doesn't get in the way.

I've seen comments that "personal vibrators" provide enough "jiggle" to make the homemade primer fillers work. Seems I even saw a youtube video demonstrating the concept.

Having neither primer filling gizmos nor "bullet" vibrators to try I can't attest to how well it would work.

I found my E-clip from my Dillon 600 swager, launched that the other evening while changing the primer size ram.

I've also been prepping 30 carbine brass
I'm processing quite a bit of 1952 and 54' military brass, along with some commercial 30 carbine brass.
I was a bit surprised to see how much smaller the military primer flash holes are compared to commercial brass flash holes.
I also found one 30 carbine brass from 1945.

Finally set a date of April 1 to quit doing 9 mm and start on a 556. Spent part of Easter cleaning up and switching over. Ended up with about 2500 MP 356– 358 – NLG – BB At round 132 grs. Loaded and ready to go to the range. Settled on some slow AA number two loads and some Winchester 244 of about 1050’/s. The only AA#7 loads that worked were too light to work the slide at around 8 to 9 hundred but are quite accurate at 5.9 grs. Just had to use a lighter spring. I spent a couple of months working on loads with 7 different powders. Always too light or too hot just couldn’t seem to find a sweet spot in the middle. Always used the same alloy I bought at a garage sale. Seems to be Lyman no. 2. Anyone want to lend an opinion on alloys versus accuracy? Looking forward to working on 5.56 for awhile. FMJ. I got about 2000 pieces of R Brass cleaned up and ready to load last year before I wrenched my shoulder and had to quit the rifle. But I’m back baby. Fired about 80 test rounds today. That’s all I have to say about that.

Hand reprimed 450 38/357 brass. Though actually not in the reloading room, I did that at work.

I have a job where I have to be able to immediately respond to something if it goes wrong or breaks. Which is about 3-5% of my time. Since I prime brass with the Lee hand tool I can do that anywhere. I also make a lot of percussion caps here.

Many years ago before I got a tumbler I used old jean legs cut off with the bottom sewed up. I'd put cases in them and then fill the bag partially up with cheap short stemmed rice, twirl the top a bit, fold it over and tie it with heavy cord really well leaving the rice/cases loose inside. The put it in the clothes dryer with some old towels on tumble cycle and let run for 50 - 60 minutes. Cleaned the cases fairly well. Rice was separated by making a shaker with a piece of light grate in the bottom of a small plastic wash pan with a bottom hole cut out. Pouring the bag contents into the pan while in/over a carboard box and shaking a bit separated the rice from the cases.

Be advised, the wife may not be too happy with that method but it does convince her of the "need" for an actual tumbler......

Max,
I wouldn't use vinegar to clean brass. Diluted vinegar may be OK? but who knows? Vinegar will remove tarnish, but it also oxidizes the brass, they may not turn black right away, but they are on their way.
Many of us use Citric acid. It removes the tarnish and crud, But it passivates the brass, to inhibit future oxidation and tarnish.

When I have small batches of brass to clean (by hand), I use a cotton rag and MS.

I have helped many folks get into the hobby of reloading. Most on a budget so no brass tumbler. I have them get a container that has a screw on top like a modern hodgdons powder container. Put some DAWN dish soap in it with very hot water along with there brass. Pot the top on and roll it around under there foot while watching TV. 10 mins later rinse and repeat. Most of the time works well. You can add some lemon juice or lemi shine if you want. If you want better results shake for 3 mins hard in your hands. Its free and works very well for the cost. Hope this helps.

Oh in the reloading room today I cleaned and sized half a five gallon bucket of 38s.

Threw it in the dryer while jeans were being done. Small pro tip - put a small screw through the side of the lid attaching the lid securely to the jar - or don't have a small statured fiery Irish mother when the contents are expelled into the laundry....

I have had , on the bench, for maybe three years a 100 round loading block mostly full of empty brass that I had formed for my 6.5 Roberts, Arisaka. And some how there was also 6.5X55 Swede in there too. So I put up a new light fixture over the bench and cranked the radio up and got down to business, Sorting by seeing which empty brass fits which rifle, and I couldn't resist forming up some more Brass for the Roberts. I ended up with about 90 Swede brass and about 70 Roberts brass out of the mess. I know the math is off but it is what it is. So I got to digging around and found my stash of 6.5 bullets that I have horded for 20 years and am now making ammo. I intended to make some 6.5 X50 for the unrechambered Arisaka but discovered that I have about 150 rounds already loaded. I NEEEEED to go shoot some of this up.

Today I finished off 50 rounds of 38 special 158 grain SWCs with 3.4 grains 231. My normal mouse load is 3.2 but my old school Lee dipper gives me 3.4 and was alot faster so I went that route.
After that I finished my 9mm work up using 100 grain J words also with 231. Went from 4 grains up to 4.7. Also loaded a small amount of 147s with 3.2 grains 231 just to see how they compare to the 100 grain.
Lastly, I wanted to see if I could reload 380 in an emergency situation using tools from my 38/357 and 9mm Lee whack a mole Loaders. I'm pretty sure it's going to work, all cases passed the plunk test. Same 100 grain bullets with 3 grains 231.

I tried to confirm drops from my Ohaus/ RCBS 10-10 beam scale.
I am not confident in its settings, especially the tenth guage.
I must be missing something, what is it?
Much obliged, Max

Meaning that you aren't confident that it'a accurate? Only way to know is to test it with known weights. This set is similar to what I have.

https://www.amazon.com/Bekith-Precision-10mg-100g-Calibration-Jewellery/dp/B07K7F7D8K/ref=sr_1_8?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.y_s3rmJNZpmiIMo_pbE9lF Ua6_nG-e6v6ImramFUhvkzQYVmfl_Hb5BdIQez4Lwl6plLHP5X8qkLr7l uN8L7cwzSLriIBHM3x9E6EE9hevsN_CSvz3KyXE0ECEDVfZNit 94Gh-4zjW_-LJzdqJPtTTjdC57-JfDcoDv9kLmMWEa9hPteT9a0ofwFZQxQPuc3qYc4HF1lpzsbSo blcCEQXWeoaaYD5c0jK8z-RDqbGjM.LuZ4pg1CriodeSWaolIQmOXLEGGWvHaMjfmqxmusaF o&dib_tag=se&keywords=calibration+weights&qid=1713885543&sr=8-8

You will have to do some calculating, because the set is calibrated in grams, not grains.

Hi Switzer, yes accuracy is the issue. I was looking for a way to check the small increments like tenths of a grain. i know that RCBS or Ohaus will accept it back for calibration but I am trying to avoid that>

Much obliged, Max

In that set you will have weights as small as 10 milligrams, which is 0.154 grain

From there you can make even smaller ones from bits of fine copper wire. Fussy work, but it can be done.

Started turning 600 + pounds of range scrap into ingots! I’m surprised my neighbors haven’t asked........... “ what’s burning? “ lol
I have forgotten how much work this is!, Hahahaha! Lots of sawdust, wax, and, bullet jackets!
But.... it is satisfying work. I’ll test the hardness in two weeks, but two days later they have a very good ring to them when hit together! Whatcha want to bet they’ll make 45 slugs??? Hey, gotta go......be safe

Broke out my single stage press today to decap and size 5.56. Never used it for that before. Not sure what s up but getting lots of stuck cases just trying to get set up. Went to town last week just for a stuck case removal tool and today couldn’t find it. Had to make do with home made puller. Lucked out and a friend invited me out to a jam session so I could just walk out of the room. Tomorrow is another day.

Tonight I should finish that project, and install the Inline Fabrication LED lighting on my Forster CO-AX. If I like these LED's that install on the Forster, I have 3-Dillons that could use some additional lighting for these older eyes. :)

Cast some pure 9mm bullets to use for bore slugging. Among several possibilities I need to investigate for leading in a new pistol barrel is a change in bullet to bore fit.

Got the idea here to give them a bit of a vice squeeze to fatten them up over bore diameter.

I have been using used brass as a mold for slugs. My first time I didn’t fill them full enough so they were too small to fill the bore. Just sayin.

Vice compression has gotten the shank diameter up to ~.365”, which I think should do the job.

I used a groove less bullet meant for coating, and figure the ogive will make it easier to start than something with a wad cutter profile.

Turns out I didn’t need quite so much diameter. Even without vise compression the 0.358” slug left a generous ring of swaged lead on the trailing end of the slug. Looked to me that I got the full depth of the grooves.

Today, after a 20 year lapse in reloading and casting, decided to get back into it. Not sure if I can find a lot of my reloading gear, ie:Press, dies, moulds, etc. I did find my old .44Mag/Special LEE LOADER, so there is that. I may use that while I design a new loading bench, and get it set up. At 70 years old, and a recent minor stroke sufferer, I am not as energized as I was 20 years ago, but...

Along that line of thought, I received 200 Bullets from MATT"S BULLETS. They are VERY light weight 150 grain .44 Wadcutters! Any ideas on loads to experiment with using these almost comical looking BOOLITS? They are sized to cylinder throats, and I will be usng them in a Model 69 S&W 2.75" or a 2.25" Charter Arms Bulldog.

Acted like a fool is what. I thought I was running a 9mm case in a .380 die to swage the end down for my shot capsule loads.

The case went in the die then got stuck and the shell holder popped off the case head. I hammered the .380 holder over it and pried the case out, put another in and stuck it. Repeated the above and got it out.

I then realized I had a .38spl shellholder in there from working with .38 cases the day before--duh! Put the 9mm holder in and ran a case in it which came out sized down for the whole length completely NOT like what it had been doing. What is happening?!?!

Then I realized I has a .300blk die in there. I had been trying to size the neck down on .38 cases to squeeze a shot capsule. Figured it out and put the .380 die back in the press and walked away.

Sometimes you are the bowling ball, sometimes you are the pins. Gotta know when to walk out of the bowling alley.
