Sorted through my 70-90 year old milsurp 30-06 brass that I use for cast bullets and found three with small neck cracks.
They got set aside to become 7.65 Argentines.
The rest I loaded with Lee 170 F and Lee 200R over 3031 and 4227 respectively.

Loaded up around 300 rds of the MP-40-160-HP PC sized to.401 7.3 gr. Very accurate load at about 1150 ‘/sec. Trying to use up all my 10mm brass and CFE Pistol powder. Ending up trying my RCBS Little Dandy to get accurate meatering with the low volume of powder left. Seems to be working fine.

not really reloading related. However, i finally broke down and bought a set of ear muffs for shooting at the range. Being 38.5 yrs old, working in a shop setting for the last 13 years, and doing shooting sports. my hearing is getting bad. I had just stealing the foam plugs foam work. but, i think the muffs are better. i bought a decent $30-$35 pair off of amazon supposedly good up to 34 db https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20231126/ea7cca2c7209bf0eec439fbe198349bd.jpg

Better late than never.
Voice of experience: I wore the EAR plugs riding motorcycles daily for 30+ years, as well as weekend shooting. I'm severely deaf anyway.
Passive muffs aren't that great by themselves. Use them over foam plugs.

I've been working to load up large batches of handgun ammo with all-around type loads so have been processing brass to that end. Am working with 38 Special, 40 S&W, 44 Mag, 45ACP and 45 Colt doing the same operation on each cartridge as I go. Got most of them cleaned, deprimed and sized and flared. Got stumped on the 44 Mag when I realized that I was no longer patient enough to lube and clean each one anymore so came in and got on the internet to order a carbide sizer die. Already have carbide for all the others. Will set the 44 Mag cases aside tomorrow and proceed with priming the others. Noticed that I will have to cast a bunch of bullets for the 45 Colts before I'm done.

Tested 20 rounds of the AA number five starting at 8.2 up to 9.3. I got the velocity up to 1230 or so. Accuracy was not good. Have three rounds in the center at 15 yards and two of them wandering around I got use to CEF pistol and tight little groups all touching. I shall try again with the ones at 8.9 and see if I can pull them together or put the number five back on the shelf. This time I will try 20 rounds all the same head stamp and see what happens.

Started reloading for the Glock 23s, leaving one a 40 and the other will be changed to a 357 Sig. Got some Sig range brass from Everglades. 40 pulled brass from American. Out of 50 Sig pieces had four bulged too badly to save, made a belt on the case web, thought I might get them to work as dummy rounds, that was a bust, could not tell what was sticking in the chamber, so scrapped them. After, reloading the resized to spec brass the Sig reloading went OK for a bottleneck pistol case, not my first day at the rodeo with those. The 40s laded with 180s was pretty straight forward, with new brass. Then about the time I got the Sig die's setup, the thunder storm came, thunder and lightning, pouring down rain, so left the shop to go to the house to see about the wife, she gets kind of skittish after the tornado last year.

Looking forward to getting through these first few weeks of recovery so I can get back down those 14 stairs!!I bought my Dad his first reloading set after his first hip 20 some years ago. (Reloading skipped a generation on my father's side). He sat there with his rock crusher and made boxes and boxes of ammunition while he was recovering. He spent 7 days recovering on his left one (horse rolled over him when he and I were gathering heavies when I was in highschool), 3 days on the second one 18 years later. I hope you have a swift recovery!

Started over the Weekend have 6000 9 mm brass, polished up and ready to decap prime load and shoot. Wish it were as easy as it sounds. Use to decap all than tumble the pockets clean before loading. But 6000. Going to run them in one go around. Ordered 2000 berry plated 115 gr and going to cast and cast and cast. Have a MP 356-358 rn bb with eight pockets that does eight at a time. Perty sure I’ll be using AA 7. It sure meters nice. Using a Hornaday AP Progressive press. Took me about two months to crank out 2000+ 10mm so won’t be done by Christmas. Oh well I suppose it’s the journey. Not the destination or something like that.

That is the main driver in most of my recent loading mentioned here lately. My loading bench was so covered in boxes of various brass and bullets that I HAD to do something to clean it off so it's useable. I decided to load up every piece of handgun brass I own as a way to get it out of the way. I'm on a roll now and the bench top is visible about half way back!

My recently cleaned reloading bench is not clear either!
However... I did size 47 coated Cast hollow Point .452" bullets . The mold is a bit tedious to use but it does make a decent .45 acp bullet of 208 grains of soft alloy . It is a mold I modified from a Lee double cavity 230 T.C. mold . The bullets shoot great from my 1911 but tumble from a Highpoint .45 carbine that shoots other cast bullets very well ?

Called around looking for large rifle primers and a few different powders. I found one store with CCI large rifle for $25.99 per 100. That is just nuts. I also found one store that has Unique and bullseye for $58.99 per pound. I am getting pushed out of this sport/hobby very fast.
Not a fun day in the gun room. I need a place to buy some bulk powder I can understand.
Nice modification. Great boolit performance for the 1911. I'd try tapping a copper plated bb into the nose on a few just to see how it behaves in the hi point.

I can do that in the carbine but could not use the same ammo in the pistol then because of MY state and federal armor piercing laws ! The hole is .185" and slightly tapered in the bullet I think for shear fun maybe some priming mix would be better in that Hollow Point .

FINALLY made it down the stairs and to my bench....only to discover so many unfinished projects! :) Worked on forming some 35WCF from 7x65R...tedious, at best. The forming is pretty straight forward, but about .003 has to be removed from the base, just above the rim, to chamber. Also spent some time forming 43 Mauser back to 43 Mauser, as it had at some point been formed to 43 Spanish. Also pretty easy....just a quick trip through a 43 Mauser sizing die and a little clean up.

Been on vacation for couple weeks. Always nice to get some time off and get some things done around the place. Been out in gun room some every day. Yesterday I got a batch of about 400 45 Colt brass ready to prime. Will get some 200 gr. RNFP bullets poured today.
Finished up a bunch of Federal GM paper shotshells.

Been finishing up making shotshell loads that will function in my Win. 94 AE. I first started making them for my Uberti 45 Colt Evil Roy.
I use 460 S&W cases cut back. Powered by 6.5 grains of HP-38, and a payload of 220 grains of #9 shot. That's a few more pellets than a 2.5" 410 load.

Have a lot of, waiting brass, many completely ready to insert powder/ boolets. Banged out three boxes of 170gr SWCs .38sp. with 2400 loads that might hit 700 fps. Faith loading that one of my guns will like em.
was surprised an older Lyman book listed this as most accurate load, never loaded this powder at less than boomer loads in 357

I had some problems with previous ammo for an XD compact. It would not go into battery without a rap on the back of the slide. Same ammo works fine in S&W 4006 and glock.
Started yesterday casting a couple hundred 40143. Range lead and linotype powder coated using a mix of orange and white, I call it creamsickle and sized to .401". I normally use the Piggyback, this was the first time in a long while I have loaded pistol on single stage. I ran the brass through a home made bulge buster die using a Corbin CSP-1 swage press. Then deprimed it.
Belling and Seat dies were set up in a hollywood turret. I hand primed and laid everything in a loading block. Load for today was 4.2 bullseye, starting load from the 48th lyman book. Made four to test fire, everything cycled. Went back and charged the rest of the primed cases and using the turret, Flared the mouths and seated the bullets in a two step.
This was the first time I have used a lyman 55 powder measure, I was impressed. The only thing I did like is that the handle does not rotate like all my other powder measure handles do.
Now if I can get some range time,

Loaded up a box of .357, sitting for a few years. Not matching primers and a funny mark on all of them. The rod from the RCBS primer may have been flipped the wrong way or maybe too tight. Very strange but trying a light load of Herco to around 1000 with some Lyman round nose 35?242 for 9mm. Sized em down a few weeks back to .358. They sat a few years and were pretty big for some reason Expanded them but were all trimmed

Unloaded about 700 9mm 147 gr I loaded last year when my progressive was brand new. What a dirty job. Had never unloaded before cept for a few hammer jobs. After I blew up my XDM last month I got a collet for my press I went a little crazy stuffing boolits back then not understanding the nuances of the progressive. Now after some thousands of rounds I have enough of a handle on it to trust my work. Anyway how ever you crack it education is expensive.

Also loaded up a test box of 9mm para with progressive additions of Accurate #5 (I have been looking for a replacement for Unique.) with the Lyman 356402 boolit, I made up loads starting at 5.4 gr up to 6.0 gr in 0.2 gr increments. We'll see how it does in my FEG pistol.
Nowadays, I have been stocking up on the Ginex primers because they seem to be much more sensitive, and eliminate the misfires from light primer strikes.

Stuck some Saeco 180 boolits in .357 Mag brass. Comparing HS-6 and Enforcer. Starting charges gave better velocity with HS-6 (3” barrel). I won’t be surprised if max charges also give too velocity to HS-6, although book data says otherwise (longer barrel). Accuracy may go to Enforcer though… we’ll see.

Democrats passed some new gun laws this year that go into effect here in Michigan on St. Valentines day 2024 one of them "allegedly" requires guns and ammo to be locked up separately and a stolen gun can get the owner 15 years in prison! Used to use this boolit in 350 Rigby Magnum and 35 Remington for two buddies. Was going to ship it out but decided to cast up one last batch before it disappears into the great white north.
Both buddies I loaded for have passed away, don't anticipate loading for a 350 Rigby again but the 35 Remington is a possibility. I can store cast boolits just as easily as I can ingots. If I never use them they can be recast into something else.

This increased the count for priming with my new RCBS Auto Prime tool to approximately 3,000 primers installed since mid-September. So far, I really like it. Should have bought one years ago. The only problem I've had with it was that the handle pivot bolt loosened at something like 700 primers. The worst accuracy I've ever had out of one of my pistols was when trying to load low velocity loads with slow burning powder. For me it was 9mm with Shooters World Major Powder which is equivalent to AA#7.
Same powder shoots very accurately with high velocity loads. I disassembled those low velocity loads and reused the bullets with a fast powder and they were very accurate. Ditch the slow powder for low velocity loads.

Pretty happy with the project. It took a long time to finish—but it was usable as soon as the bench top was done, and it's grown with my handloading since then.
Lumber cost including three sheets of 4x8 3/4" plywood and several 2x4s, 4x4s 2x6s was about $300, with 3/4 plywood being by far the most expensive part. Hardware including nuts, bolts, screws, hinges, door track and a latch, about $125, with plastic door track, surprisingly, the most expensive component. I don't charge myself for labor.
The bench top sits at 43 inches, which is about four inches below elbow height for me and a good height for working.

I got my 9mm 135 gr HP plated bullets from Extreme that I ordered on New Year’s Eve so I can attempt to make a reasonable facsimile of Hornady Critical Duty 9mm 135gr +P ammunition that we carry at work so I can practice some before we requalify in March.
I got 25 test rounds loaded.
That ammo has a different recoil pulse than I am used to with standard velocity 9mm ammunition.

Deprimming .223 brass I have collected over the last 3 years. Will swage pockets, resize, trim, clean again and load up about two 5 gallon buckets full over the winter. Have to swage about 4 gallons of 22LR brass to make .224's for 60 grain bullets also during the winter. If that get's done; time to swage a few thousand 175 grain .308's from 5/16 copper tubing.

I was sizing some 350 legend cases for further experiments with lee 200 gr RNFP GC cast boolits. Apparently the sizing lube was insufficient on one case and it stuck in the die. The rim then pulled off. I removed the decapping pin from the Lee die. I was able to reach down with a screwdriver and used a small hammer to tap the case out of the die. I was using my Lyman All American 8 turret press. I did not think to rotate the turret away from the ram position. The Lee die uses a tapered thread plug to retain the decapping pin. That retainer plug takes a considerable amount of torque to grip the pin. Of course, the die began to turn in the press. I reached for a second wrench to hold the die and at that point the decapping pin slipped out of the retaining plug, fell through the shell holder and down into the hollow ram. The ram has a machined slot that lines up with the primer catcher and that is where the center hole ends. The decapping pin was lodged at the bottom of the center hole with no access from the primer slot or from above. I had to walk, through the snow, to my garage, find my small telescoping magnet and then back to the reloading shop. I was able to retrieve the pin using the magnet. I then rotated the turret so that a dropped pin would land on the bench. This is a good example of Murphy's Law in action. When things go wrong, there is no half way, they go all the way wrong!

I have been working on making my own percussion caps one die uses large primers to form them. I dumped the empties from my RCBS 4X4 press set up for .45 acp and found three small primers and one primer with a upside down anvil ! The primer looks to have fired fine and was most likely range pickup brass.
I am using a odd mix for priming it is made in small batches 8 grains Barium Chlorate , 2 grains Charcoal and .3 grains Red Phosphorous . I have been working with .2 grains in a cap and it is a bit energetic so I will be reducing it . The other day I put 15 grains old Clumped up CTG Pyrodex in my CVA .45 pistol with a bit of paper towel on the powder it went off without a hitch . Commercial caps tend to misfire or hangfire with this old can of Pyrodex . I started by making pellets with Gum Arabic or N.C. Lacquer as binder and finding scooping the mix in then adding a touch of thinned Lacquer seems to be best . Pistol has fired quite a few caps in two weeks without cleaning no rust so far...It was cleaned after firing Pyrodex .

I lubed, Sized and Gas checked some 155gr, .40, MP, round, hollow-points. I gotta say this is probably the last time I pan lube and PBGC my bullets. It's way too messy and time consuming for me, these days. I'm getting set up for powder coating the vast majority of my projectiles. I tried about 9 years ago, but it was too inconsistent and too new of a process. I have seen it mature and become more reliable and simple. I'm very ready to give powder coating another try.

I have been working on percussion cap making dies and priming mix I have about got it down when weather warms I am going to do some shooting with my replica 1859 Sharps .
Out of curiosity I tried the same mix in pistol primers and they fizzled and did not fire . The mix is 8 grains Barium Chlorate two grains charcoal and .3 grains red Phosphorous mixed wet with water. A second mix of 11 grains Barium Chlorate 2 grains charcoal and 1 grain Red Phosphorous works quite well . The powder was mixed wet dried then .2 grains (small primer cup full) was poured into large pistol cup . That was then wet with 1/3 spray lacquer & 2/3 acetone the anvil seated and dried .
These primers seem more energetic then factory magnum primers but I did not try yo measure force yet . I did have a first ever happen in reloading since 1973 and I have no idea how many round loaded . The primer got sideways when seating I crushed it so I could get it out of the shell holder like I have down many times over the years . That caused it to go off! It was quite the noise too!

I loaded up 50 6.5x55 Swede using 140 grain HPBT Match Kings over 37 grains of IMR-7383 ( RAD-78 ) powder. This gives a very accurate 2,400 FPS load out of the bolt rifles / carbines and the AG42B semi-auto rifle. ( port pressure is not an issue ) I bought 150 pounds of the surplus powder when in bulk you could get it for $1.50 a pound.
I have loaded it in many cartridge calibers over the years and never had an issue with excessive pressures or poor accuracy.
When a load is worked up where all the powder grains have burned, the powder is very clean burning. It is a triple base powder.
Many post here on the powder.

I lowered the powder charge down one Rotor size in the Little Dandy powder dropper compared to the recent load I've been testing. This new load will give an economical 2,187 shots per pound of powder. Being that lead is recoverable from my berm, and I still have a factory sealed Hercules Red Dot 8lb container that was bought for something like $85, shooting will only cost a primer for a good long time now. I'm still using the last 2 pounds of my other Hercules Red Dot. It lasts a long time this way. Good times!

I've been tumbling brass on and off since our Christmas Deer Season ended. Today I sorted a partial bucket of weights that a buddy brought to me. I don't weigh them but I kind of look in the buckets that the lead, iron, zinc and trash go in and estimate my lead yield. Todays bucket had less lead than I've ever had, about 50%, maybe a little less. Its been slowly declining but usually runs 55-60%.

Also loaded up 50 rounds of my normal .45 Auto target load (200 gr. SWC over 4.0 gr. Clays), and 20 rounds of a test load using Clays in .45 Colt which will be going through my .454 Casull Rossi 92 just for fun.

After several evenings I finally completed my 223 brass prep of over 2000 cases, all sorted tonight.
Resized, trimmed to length, chaffered inside and outside of the case mouth, primer pockets cleaned, wet tumbled, and all cases ran through a dehydrator to make sure no moisture is left behind in the cases.
I've become a fan of wet tumbling the brass

Getting my mec 600 setup for the 20 gauge. I've a box of 500 Winchester super X hulls That I got from BPI. Only downside is that some are 6 point. Most are 8 point. The 6 points don't do well in the 8 point crimp starter. Lol.

Since it is a rainy day in AZ, I cast 1,200+ 9mm 120gr TC boolits said n the shop and washed them in acetone getting them ready for powder coating once the humidity goes down.

Does washing them in acetone help powder stick to them better?

It may. All the other rules apply, but I find acetone removes any oil and sweat from handling and removes some oxidation. It removes some variables known to cause problem with the powders giving me the best chance for successful powder static cling.

Loaded several hundred 38 Specials using 60's vintage powder-Winchester 230 P and similar vintage R-P primers with my own cast boolits. Powder and primers were dead guy stuff that I got for almost nothing. Boolits were from freebie lead. Other than time probably a good 1-2 pennies in each load.
Reduced 8-9 gallons of maple sap to ~3 quarts, was supposed to be less than a quart but the propane jug ran dry. Finish it tomorrow or Sunday.
And took the wife out for perch dinner. About the only thing catholic I still do. And she's not a catholic.
Not even a C&E member anymore. More of a F&W kind guy.
And prefer the W to be going to the reception only.
And NOT a dry one.

Ordered a shellplate for Hornady L´n´l AP press some time ago. Received older model plate without the extractor groove on bottom.
Could have returned that plate but correct ones aren´t available here (or nearly anywhere, it is for 7.62x54R)
Intermittent cut on a small desktop lathe is not fun but got it done.

I loaded 10 25 ACP's while doing the laundry. Only took me the best part of an hour (truth in advertising means I have to say I primed about 200, but only managed to get 10 loaded-weighing each charge.)

I finished up the last of my soft lead melting, turning it from sheets, blocks, and assorted pieces to Redneck Gold ingots! ‘Bout a hundred pounds so far! Now, on to the zinc wheel weights! Those cannonball guys are to get a chance on a big batch of melted zinc ingots in the near future! 324743

I finished cleaning up a modified BSA 12/15 martini barreled action and cold blued it. Tomorrow it will get all put back together and a scope mounted. I have owned this rifle for years but shortened the barrel made a new forend and Acraglas bedded it and refinished the stock all recently.

A while ago I purchased a "Quigley down under" Pedersoli Sharps with the 34" barrel along with two boxes Remington corlokt 405 gn bullets. it was only after I got home did I realize that the bullets purchased were "full charge". Knowing that Cabelas will not refund purchased ammo, I decided to strip the bullets and replace the smokeless load with 65 gns of Goex 2F powder. in 10 cases, I substituted the 405 gn bullets with Hornady 350 gn interlocks, and the remaining 10 were capped with the original 405 gn spcl bullets. I can't wait to get out and see how these loads group at 100. I also replaced the Vernier sight with a Lee Shaver sight with a Hadley eye cup.

I've been on brass prep for the last several weeks
Last night I finished swaging 45acp crimped primers, all pistol brass is complete after wet tumbling and a cycle through the dehydrator. I've also been bagging and tagging all completed brass, before storing in containers.
I also worked on cleaning the reloading room and reorganizing after cleaning and prepping nearly 10K pieces of brass.

I was on a roll casting some Lee 43-310-RF bullets for my Super BlackHawk when I noticed the mold halves were misaligning. The front alignment pin had slipped back into the hole such that it wasn't engaging it's mate in the other block. I decided it was smart to stop for the evening and wait for everything to cool before working on it. Only got about 100 cast before this happened.

Moved in mid 2022 and did not get a reloading room right away went through some personal stuff suffice of to say I’m finally starting the project
Insulated most the walls and ceiling of the mezzanine in my shop and Vapor Barriered it today just need 4 more bags of r24-23 and to frame a wall against back wall (the structure is solid but built a little jankey as it started as a 2x4 framed tarp shed then got 2x6 filled in between the 4’ centre 2x4s then rebuilt again later) then I can finish insulating vapour barrier the board and get my friend to tape it
Going to steel stud the open end into the rest of the shop creating a fire break with rockwool and double 5/8 fire board

Well that’s enough blabbing wish me luck
