Four years ago, I took apart my Grandpa's Stevens 59A 410 shotgun with the intention of touching up the blue on the mag tube and refinishing the stock. It took two weeks back then to sand and Tru Oil the stock to a nice glass finish. Tonight, I finally blued the tube and figured out how to put it all back together. Turned out nice. Still need to paint the trigger guard tomorrow as its aluminum and won't take bluing. I know its just a cheap old shotgun that probably doesn't deserve the Tru Oil and all the attention, but the wood is nice and this will get handed down someday.

Ill bet it looks awesome too!!

I've had a coffee can full of once fired .410 hulls for many years. I always wanted to reload them, and decided to get into .410 reloading as a winter project. I bought a MEC 600 Jr. press set up for 3" hulls, and I believe it can be adjusted for 2 1/2" hulls with some tinkering. I loaded about 150 3" shells, and then my buddy Texas by God sent me some 2 1/2" empties. I still have some more 3" hulls to reload, so I didn't was to adjust the press. I figured a spacer of just the right thickness could be used to raise the shells enough for a crimp, and found that a 1/4" ceramic coffee coaster works just fine. Slow, but the crimps are prefect. :D These are Win. AA hulls, Claybuster WAA41 replacement wads from BPI, 13.0 gr. of Alliant 2400, and 1/2 oz. nickel plated #7 shot.

Annealed the trimmed .40 brass and pin tumbled it. Then played around with the .45 SWC die from BTS. I need to come up with a more accurate method of initially trimming the brass. This will cut down on the time spent using my trim pro 2.

You don't need to trim pistol brass so you can save some time by not do it.

Sized up a pile of 311/170 Arsenal bullets.

Finished prepping 7Mag brass I got in the mail. Quite a few, more split necks then expected. Even found two that where fired SO HI PRESSURE, that the case head expanded past fitment into the shell holder!!! :(

Remaining 60 Or so look pretty good. Im assuming it's range pickup. I didnt clarify before buying so buyer beware.

I decided to add to my loaded .45 ACP ammo stash, so I dumped most of one of my several coffee cans of fired brass into the tumbler. Two days later, I sized and deprimed 200 of them, a few every time I went through the shop. Its dang cold here today, so I'm priming them in front of the TV with my RCBS hand primer. Ive counted 11 different headstamps[emoji16]....and so far two of those blasted Blazer small pistol primer pocket stepchilds.
No worries, good times.

A couple of days ago, before the snowstorm hit, I loaded a box of 185 grain bullets into 45ACP brass in preparation for a trip to the range.
Finally got a chance to go. The trip was successful. All the loads went bang and hit the target as well as a bunch of boolits I had loaded previously.
Always a good day when everything works.
Today I cleaned the pistols.

Cast a pot's worth of 44 Larsen deep hollowpoints just because.

Mal, any load data for those yet? I cast up a bunch but haven’t had a chance to PC or load any but looking forward to it.

On Sunday I finally had some me time away from Kids (on Valentines day no less) so, despite the 18deg weather here in Michigan I spent a couple hours over my little propane melter (thanks again Lakehouse) and melted 100# of lead sheeting RogerDat picked up for me and another 60# of wheel weights I got over the summer from HistoricFirearms.

Thanks guys, I keep working towards the one ton club. With so little time to shoot with young kids better to build my supply now cause as soon as their old enough I’m hoping to need it for their shooting.

Loaded the last 400 srp I had, into .223 cases already prepped. Sealed and stored away. Primed all 400 off press because of priming problem with range brass not separated by head stamp, and not properly de-crimped. Will look further into why this is happening. Maybe me just being lazy.

I played with the new check maker that I got from Gregor and it is pretty slick. All the metal I have on hand is some .011" painted aluminum which is kind of loose on my 312-165 lee boolits but just right on the 312-185 boolits. I screwed it into the press and it worked flawlessly. I will need to get some .014/.015" metal and try it, It should snug up tight and be gooooood!

Well Saturday I pressed primers into 12 444m cases charged them with rl7 and then went looking for my lee c430- 310rf but realized I had none lube sized and it was late afternoon. So I dumped the powder back out and put cases away for the night. Sunday I lubsized a small pile of boolits 431 with gas checks and finished my loading. Starting at 40gr going two 43 in a ladder. Test sometime still haven’t tested the 308s I made back a few months

finally counted, sorted, marked via stamp, and then stacked all of my various leads and alloys.

Now I know what I have on hand, and it's in easy to grab/use spaces on some custom junky shelves I made. I also melted down all of the odd pig and muffin ingots I have and now have them all in either pound or half pound ingots.. much easier to use. The 2# muffin ingots stack nice.. but kill pot temperature in a 10# pot.

I powder coated the last of my Lee 105 SWCs, finally caught up on powder coating. I did a ton of Lee 125 LRNs, the .452 200gr LRNs and these 105 SWCs a long time ago and never got around to powder coating them after I ran out of HF Red. I went up to Eastwood which isn't far off and got some dark blue from them. It seems pretty good, guess we'll know when we shoot it. I do need to resize now, but I need to get a press set up and fixed for that first.

I used to store them in a bucket..till it became difficult to alloy. I used to have just range scrap and just soft lead...easy to distinguish 5 from 10 hardness.. Then I added tin, tin babbit, linotype, Lyman #2, clip on ww, and mild antimonial lead...like 8 hardness.

Once I did all that..had to make shelves.

Then I standardized my ingots. Had some muffin tin stuff, some 5# mini pigs, some scrap in chunks and nuggets. etc. Poured everything down to half and pound ingots.

cwlongshot

I separate, but still use buckets. Cardboard attached to the bucket naming what it is. When I have small quantities if something Ill use ammo cans.

For instance I have some super hard 40 bhn babbit. I also have mono and tin and super hard all in there own 50 cal cans well labled. I dont really have room on the bench where I cast for the ingots. So they get buckets under the bench.

Sorry to hear GMB. SARS COV2 is a nasty bug.

I did go into the garage and resized all those 30-255 Taco boolits and then powder coated some 40 S&W boolits.

I got a TM neck turning kit recently and while I was waiting on the PC to bake, I started playing with it a little. My plan is to make 300 BO out of 223/556 brass and I've made a few that chamber properly. Those all have brass thickness in the neck of < 0.012". The cases with brass thickness of > 0.012" do not chamber properly. So, all those wolf cases, etc - I'm gonna thin those necks down to 0.011".

I'm wrestling with new small base 5.56 dies that appear, to size the case so small. That, I can't seat the primer. Is That possible?

I have to ask, did you swage the primer pockets after depriming and sizing? Even commercial 223 is starting to have crimped primer pockets. I use RCBS small base die on everything. I've never had a problem with any of it except it does take a little extra lube and muscle to really do big cartridges. But it should not affect the primer pocket at all.

A friend's grandson, and grandson in law, are getting into reloading. With a press on the way. Since projectiles, both cast and J word, are in short supply everywhere, I gave them several hundred cast bullets in two calibers, as well and a hundred of each caliber in J word bullets, to get them started. Finding primers and powder is on them, though I might be able to help them with a little powder.

I was working on my brass tumbler last night, I have one of the Horrible Freight ones that broke at the base I'm trying to fix.

I did empty some cases today, a ton of calibers. 5.56, 9mm, 243 win, 450 Bushy and .40 S&W. Kept some fairly extensive logs which means I'm not stuck much longer on getting more ammo cranked out. Kind of a summary:
-BLC(2) seemed to have been causing a sticky chamber at the shoulder with 80GR JHPs in the 243. Grouped pretty well at 100 though. I think I'm going to try 4064 instead or try to figure out what's happening. It's a gummy mess though it seems. I may try to bump the load hotter though and/or see if it's a sizing problem.
-.40 seemed to have a weird spot, I went from 6-6.6gr with Power Pistol. Right in the middle I had what I thought was some primer flowing. I didn't seem to have it near so bat at the hitter levels just in the middle.

9 and 5.56 were more just to kind of goof around and see what my guns could do. I already had those loads pretty well sorted out.
-450 bushy seemed fine with what I was using, nothing remarkable there. I need to get the rest of what I have loaded up now.

Did some picture taking and cleaning up on my nerw purchase. A Herters Model Super 234 6 hole turret press. It's brute!
Need to do more clean on the rest of the purchase. The Lyman 55 it a bit sticky. The rest a bit of rust from long storage.

It was 1AM when I finished so I'm counting it as today. I got my Lee APP replacement parts on the press, mounted it, set up one of my punch through dies (NOT the new style the old one) and put a piece of 3/4 rad hose on it into a plastic jar. After that I sized some .45 ACP bullets and loaded em up. Ran out of primers in the tube and only had a bit of stuff left over so I said what the heck. They're Lee 200 LRNFPs that drop to 215ish for me for some reason powder coated with a dark blue from Eastwood and backed with 7.9gr Power Pistol. I ran out of Nitro 100 (old formula) so I decided to switch to PP since I had a ton of it.

I also picked up some SPP .45 ACP brass a few days back and will keep that handy as well. My supplies of LPP are very limited so I'll probably make some ammo to hold back using LPP and then if I want to go plink or whatever the SPP brass will be what I use. I need to dedicate a sharpie color to make sure that brass is marked and easily recognized though.

I got these primed 22lr cases in yesterday and loaded wax and cast gluelets and loaded them. I have no heeled lead 22 cast yet but soon. The Reloader 22 mold is ??? It has two molds. IDK? Since I have yet to fire any on a range with known distance and a proper target.

They are available now.

I got them for DIY lead wax or gluelets or blanks.

PCed a bunch of boolits tonight. 227 75gr Nato, 312-157gr, and 270-150gr. Haven't shot PC out of the 30-30 or the 270, but the 227's showed lots of promise in 223 AR's. Also sized a bunch of 30-30 brass and started to trim them. 600 pieces in total to process.

Dropped about 400 .45 Lee 200RNFPs and 1075ish .356 125gr bullets. I have a 2 cavity mold in the .45 and a 6 in the 9mm. Really starting to want a 6 cavity mold in the .45 but the prices are insane right now. Up next is powder coating this lot, it's a big one so it could take a while. I have another probably 3-500ish in 9mm as well that needs to get PC so I can add them to the rest of the inventory.

Next time I do .45 bullets I think I'm going to probably pull out my 6 cavity Lee 105 SWC mold and be ready to load up some .38/.357 mag.

Loved this post as I spent much time this weekend answering my son's questions about reloading. His eyes lit up when I told him about the excess equipment I had acquired over the years that would give him a good start. It made me feel good when he said he still really wanted to order a Lee Loader so he would have everything he needed in a small kit he could use anywhere. Oh my... how the memories flowed. I'll never forget that first assembled 6mm round out of the Lee Loader some 40 years ago and the pride I felt when my first three rounds clustered neatly on the target. Happy to know my guns and casting/reloading gear will never require an estate sale.

Today is a casting day. A couple of buddies are coming over and we'll spend the day in the shop casting. I just moved the truck out, took a few chairs out, put some beer in the beer fridge and came in to sit down for a minute. My MS won't let me do much more at a time anymore. In a few minutes I'll go out and clean my mold and turn the casting pot and hot plate on. Looking to cast about a thousand bullets before I quit!

Over the past few weeks,,,, I'm working on getting my back log of 9mm brass loaded up. I have discovered that My G2c won't pop a wolf Small rifle primer but will pop a Federal small rifle match primer. I will be trying out some remington 6 1/2 primers shortly, I wanted to know before I run out of my winchester spp supply. Also started to work through my 38 special brass, the Federal primers will work in them and I have Herco and 150 gr round nose to put in them also some 105 gr wad cutters to use up. Used up my old partial cans of Unique, bluedot and PB. on different loads. 45 is next on the agenda to clean up empty brass laying around. May be I can find some time to go shoot some but then I will have empty brass again. What a vicious circle.

Turned my last 150-odd pounds of harvested range scrap into a pile of 2-pound muffin-pan ingots and, while I had the old plumber's furnace fired up, melted and poured all my accumulated lino (40+ pounds) into 1-pounders. May be my last time smelting; my entire stockpile of lead/alloys is now in the form of ingots, boolits, or loaded ammo.

Over the weekend I loaded my .450 Bushmaster brass up. I got some 300gr 45-70 bullets cheap and ran em through a 45 ACP sizer to get em down to 452. I have em loaded behind 40 grains of H4198. It's only about 20 rounds but your hand stings enough after you don't really need more than say 5ish.

Removed all my presses (3) from my bench and glued down a fitted piece of linoleum. I've been wanting to do that for a while. I made the bench top with 2x6 planks which were fine for a while but the wood kept shrinking and I was getting powder down the cracks. It was a pain to clean up and this looks much nicer. If I was to build another one I would use 2 or three ply's of Baltic birch veneer plywood, Trim the edge and epoxy the top.
Next weeks project is 303 Savage reloading. Brass is ordered.

It’s chilly outside here in Colorado Supposed to snow Friday again. So I’m loading up some experimental loads in 7.62x39 with 155 grain powder coated cast Lee C312-155-2R. Don’t know if you can relate but this is a tricky cartridge to deal with. By far the hardest I deal with.
Why? Because the way I see things this might be a very hard to find ammo in the future. Biden will make sure no foreign ammo gets imported. Almost all of it is steel cases. People will eventually use up all that steel & you will have to rely on unreliable domestic sources. Expensive & scarce. I will always keep a few ammo boxes of foreign steel around for my SHTF stock. But in the meantime I want to shoot!
I loaded some of these resized with gas checks & some not resized w/o gas checks.
My reasoning:
I chamber cast this AK & it has a .312-.313 barrel. My p.c. bullets are .311 resized & .313-.314 not resized. Ive already tried IMR 4895 with a scoop using only 23 grs. Far below maximum just to be safe. Info on this cartridge is sketchy. Almost non-existent for p.c. bullets. Accuracy was wanting. Paper plate sized groups don’t cut it around here. They did function however if you keep COL @ the recommended 2.155” per Lyman. Trying to put the bullet closer to the lands is futile causing misfeeds with this bullet. Remember too you are limited to the length of your magazines.
Now these new loads are stocked with 14 grs. of Alliant 2400. I got this info from & old Marvin Stuart recipe. Starting out low to see if it functions. Accuracy would be nice. But AK’s are not known for accuracy as much as reliability.
Oh yea I also tried lowball load of Xterminator. It wasn’t much better than IMR 4895 but nothing to brag about. Xterminator & A223 are supposed to be very similar according to the grapevine & you can find a lot of A223 recipes.
Will let you know soon as it clears up around here the results.
I can tell you the best reloads so far for this gun has surprisingly been with 150 gr. FMJBT factory seconds from Midway in .308.” Using either Xterminator or TAC. baseball sized groups with usually several touching. (50 yds.) Ain’t to shabby in this vacinity. Not even close to my 5/8” 100 yd. groups out of my Grendel. But hey I’m 70.

Searched, studied, and studied some more on preparing lapping loads for my Ruger and the many opinions on fluxing. Half the time I don't know which cat I'm trying to skin so deciphering the hundred ways gets a little cumbersome. Fortunately, Fryxal and Stanton have given me a foundation through their fine books and articles. As someone alluded to in another thread, life was simple 35 years ago (aka "Before internet") when the guy in the shop sold me a Lee pot, a Lee mold, a Lyman sizer, and a few sticks of Lee (I think) soft lube. A few helpful tips and I was on my way. I also recall, there was never a question about what powders, primers, etc. were in stock, it was how much my student loan leftovers could afford!

Been meaning to show this for a while. Finally the brass came in this morning on CanPar. I think this was the last bag of 303 Savage brass on the West Coast. Found some others in Ontario with some in stock.
As you can see by the Product placement maybe the suppliers will reward me for being their shill on this post. One can only hope.
50 New PPU brass, Hornady 150 gr RN Interlock bullets, Hodgdon's H4895, Federal Match LR Primers. Found I needed to lube the inside of the necks a little with Lee's and things went fine. BTW, Lemon Pledge makes for a great case lube. Necks seem quite thin compared to other cases. Well, we'll see how they shoot.

Set up the pot and cast a couple hundred plain based .358, 158 gr. boolits. The pic at the top of the page has me envious but I only have two cavity moulds. Once I sort through them I will powder coat with Smoke's JD Green. All for my two .357 mag. rifles. One is a Marlin 1894C and the other is a Ruger 77/357. Weather is getting nice. I want to have a walking-around gun like I wanted when I was a kid.

Loaded up the last of the Accurate 30-157 grain in 30-30 cases with 7 grains of Red Dot. Planning on casting more tmro. Then switched gears and loaded 100 RCBS 270-150 grain boolits with 10 grains of Red Dot. These are powder coated and the first PCed boolits im gonna run through the Win M70 tmro.

I annealed 100 7BR cases and prepared them for loading: neck sized, expanded and belled the case mouths, and primed.

Well yesterday I loaded 60 rounds of 308s with culled cast boolits that had slight imperfections to shoot around the house .
Now I'm going to go shoot some of them .[smilie=l:[smilie=l::Bright idea:
More on the story
They shot horrible

Cast around 400 30-157 Accurate boolits this afternoon. Really need to pony up for a 5 or 6 cavity, the two cavity is slow going.

I loaded up some 140 grain.38/.357 cast from my new NOE brass mold resized to .357.” I’m trying to get a load I can use in my S&W 642,586, Winchester carbine. It’s an ongoing project. I have decided & had reasonably good results with +P .38 specials using Universal,Unigue, A#5. I miked the 642 & Winchester to .356. Both are tighter than the S&W 586 which is .358. Will get out to do some range work soon. I will let you know if you’re interested.
