I did a few things in the reloading room yesterday;

I tumbled a handful of .303 British brass, de-primed a couple of those cases that had boxer primers, and sharpened the wet grey matter between my ears on the challenges of Berdan primers.

Last night finished the 208gr subs for 300BO, finished off a lb of IMR target loading 9mm (200rds), re-filled some 45-70 cases that I pulled down with IMR 3031 and seated some 405gr Fp's that were pulled from those cases. And last but not least pulled primers from a box of 45 GAP that I had pulled down for a buddy (ordered 1000 rds of the wrong ammo) put those primers and 6.5 grains of unique in 45 acp cases and re used the pulled bullets. It was a good day for reloading got a few projects finished now on to some new ones.

Oh....right.....that ancient process were one had brass, powder, PRIMERS, and projectiles and put them all together to make cartridges for guns & rifles.

By the time all that "stuff" comes available again, many will be either deceased or will have forgotten how to do it!

After moving, I´ve been living on the stash of boolits for a year now.
Finally I got my casting corner up and running!
A stable bench with storage and worksurface, a dual hotplate where I pre melt ingots so that I can fill the drip o matic with lead close to the casting temp. That keeps the flow going..
The other stoveplate is good for preheating moulds. An exhaustfan from a kitchen provides both light and extracts fumes. PID both for the pot and the Star lubesizer.

Also smelted about 150 kg of Lino and 5kg of pewter into ingots.
For that I use a propane cooker and a cut off propane tank as a pot, not shown here..

Did a much needed straightening up of my bench and then finished loading up about 400 primed .308 cases from Everglades Ammo. These had been pulled down because about 7% of the rounds had a slight fold and split on the neck. Lake City brass. Used a 160 grain gas checked and tumble lubed over 17 grains of 2400. These travel close to 1700 fps. and are quite accurate.

Got about 300 once fired 30-30 cases that I will be loading with a 165 grain plain base RD boolit over 15 grains of 2400. Just seems like a good time to lay in some ammo. ;-)

I Dremelled something! :grin::grin::grin:

Me, diamond coated burrs rotating at high speed, and metal gun parts do not get along, but fortunately, the only thing suffering my tender ministrations was a plastic Glock magazine loader. The .22 loader for my conversion broke, so I trimmed down an OEM loader's tongue for the .22 mags.

It looks like the amateur hack job it is, but it will save my fingers. Actually, I'm suprised the Dremel didn't bite me. It's not like I haven't made blood sacrifices to the home workshop gods before...

Back home, change into bathing suit and robe to sit in the sun with my wife for twenty minutes, then dressed for work in the shop finishing up the push through die. Sized a few 125 grain "9mm" boolits and loaded three for test in new rifle in 350 Legend/ Win brass with 26.3 grains H110, a start load. Opened a package of two ten round mags. for the .350. May shoot tomorrow after UTube Church out in the backyard. Pushed a pure lead boolit through the barrel to find the bore nowhere near .356 (SAMMI specs are .357). Checked some 125 grain factory jbullets FMJ .356 that measured .353. That may mean that my measuring equipment may not be calibrated. Could not seat the bullet in the groove. It had to be seated hiding the bands completely. Where the bullet headspaces, the rifling begins. Loaded 100 rounds of 30 carbine for my Blackhawk. Re-looking some loads (50) with the 311410 130 grain boolit over 2400, and trying another batch (50) with the Ohaus 30-120-F 120 grain gas checked boolit over the same charge of 2400. I'll be shooting these at 100 yards. Problem is, they always shoot high, and the sights are bottomed out. I need to switch to lighter boolits I think.

In the batch with the 311410s, I deprimed with a universal deprimer, and only partially resized the cases hoping that might help with accuracy. I suspect it won't make any difference, but I'll find out. The cases chamber with a little push.

This cabinet was made of leftover OSB from building the new shop. It was in the way and not good for most of the things I needed to build. My reloading area was squeezed into the top of the shop and the ceiling is the inside of the sloped roof so there's no place to go vertical. It's all scraps, mostly from flooring OSB. The only new parts are the hinges, hasp and screws. I put a little riser under it to keep from having to reach all the way to the floor to get to the bottom shelf. I'll probably have some leftover birch ply later and will make a top for it from better materials.

It might be stoopid to post photos of my powder inventory but I didn't want to unload the cabinet. Didn't have any photos of it empty. The spacing on the left is 7" between shelves. That allows for full tipping of the bottles without the shelf above interfering. The spacing on the right is 10" and it accommodates most taller bottles/canisters.

The first picture is while it was under construction, the second is in its final place with the riser.

274708 274709That looks really great!! Good job!

I really appreciate the way you thought through the height needed to tilt a bottle not just horizontally slide it in or out of place

I find with reloading there are so many scattered 'pieces parts' that organization is both a must and nearly impossible without a decent amount of forethought.

I have a scrap wood shelf holding my primer stash and organization for empty brass below...my real need is a shelf system for all the dies, sizing dies, priming rams, allen wrenches, shell holders ECT ECT ECT....I have tried several iterations of organization containers and boxes but nothing seems to scratch the itch the way I'd like just yet

Loaded 80 rounds of 45-70, had pulled these down because they were cowboy action loads (650 fps). Loaded them with 38.0 grains of IMR 3031 topped with whatever 405gr boolits the rounds came with and it was a vast improvement.
Finished 75 rounds of 68gr BTHP sierras for my 223 bolt and 30 rounds of 77gr BTHP for the same gun. Its nice being able to load up some bullets after finally getting the test rounds complete.

Whelp, got a case stuck in my 300 blk die then proceeded to "fix" it worse by bending the zip spindle in the Hornady die (it's the spindle that holds the recapping pin and expander)

So, luckily I have a second sizing die to use but still have stuck case and will try to figure a solution for this royal mess......*grumble grumble*

Will probably need stuck case removing tool to free it.I've had one once before....but I'm typically really good about going slow and ensuring enough lube ECT ECT.....not sure what happened but here I am...yeah I may have to get a tool.

Prob in this is that the expanding rod and pin are so close to the flash hole I don't think I can get them out of the way in this short 300 blk case to even drill and tap the primer hole.

Then...I need to either find a replacement zip spindle for this die or (my preference) open up the threads on the decapping rod nut so i can insert a Lee expanding decapper (actually a replacement from squirrel daddy)

Glad to have an extra sizing die on hand but overly cautious now!!

You probably have an improvised stuck case remover on hand. All it takes is a 1/4x20 tap and the appropriate drill bit, a 1/4x20 bolt of appropriate length, preferably a socket head capscrew or other strong bolt and a washer to go with it and a small socket like a 3/8 drive x 3/8” or so.

Drill out the flash hole and tap it. Place the socket over the case head. Put the bolt in through the washer and tighten. Works the same as the commercial ones.

Loaded up the new AR mags that just came in from Palmetto. Installed a GoldenRod dryer in the safe and took all the guns out for a light exterior oiling. Then detail cleaned a CZ75B. Lots of nooks and crannies in those. Found some light chatter marks on the rear bottom rails. Gave them a light sanding with some 320 grit to smooth it up some.

I sized and gas checked 173 Accurate 360-230 gr that I cast the previous evening. I then took 72 of of them, heat treated and quenched. I followed up with that batch and powder coated them. The remaining 101 was powder coated with no prior heat treating. They went stright from the sizing/gas check operation to powder coating. I will rerun them through the sizer to clean up any PC flashing on the bases tonight. I want to see if it makes a difference in my 357 max rifle loads.

been sitting at home with a mild case of Rona. Biggest issue is the loss of smell. Have been reloading a bunch of reduced loads in a variety of cartridges. Continuing to recondition some molds.

I finished sanding the sprue plates and mold tops with wet dry fine grit papers on glass. Tried to use a left hand bit to drill out a broken bolt but will need to get a real extractor. Made a jig to hold a mold block while I work on cleaning up the mating surface.

I need to buy roll pins to pin loose handles (or maybe I'll use JB Weld). I have new hardware, including wave washers, and I saved some of the old rusty stuff with a hot citric acid bath (I'll have to remember to keep them oiled; the citric acid took the finish off, and I'm not sure the surface passivation from it is enough protection).

Oh, and I cut some scrap aluminum to work as a mold heating block and took one end off each of a couple old bread pans, a smaller inside a larger with Fiberglas insulation sandwiched between, to put over the mold as it preheats.

DeRIMMING, not dePRIMING. It's the first step after annealing in making 22cal jackets for swaging out of spent 22rimfire cases. It is done with a die like a Lee push through sizer and a "pin" that clips in to the press ram and goes inside the case.

Yes it is. They shoot great out of my Springfield 1911A1. A friend loves them too. He shoots a tuned Series 70 Colt and gets 1 1/2-2" 25 yard groups. I wish I could shoot so good. The SWC is a Lee H&G 68 clone. Shoots great too.

I just loaded a dozen .303 British using bullets pulled from some old nasty SF head stamp 7.65 Mauser and some Lee TL 314 90 SWC. Improviser that I am, I used 7.7 Jap dies to neck size and decap the PPU .303 brass. For the jacketed bullets, I used a starting load of 1970s vintage Win 760 sparked by the same vintage Remington 9-1/2 M primers. The cast loads were 9 grs of Unique and I had to seat those short little fellas with a .308 Win seating die.

Built a workbench yesterday for bullet casting work. Had this old rolling steel frame from a color separation machine that's been out in my shop for years. Bought a sheet of 3/4" plywood, cut it to fit, put some bracing in underneath and it's ready to go. Thought I'd use it this weekend, but the weather report is crapping out so maybe I'll just work on the internal shelving. When I'm not casting my lead pot and equipment will be stored underneath and I'll be able to use the work top for other work.

Four years ago, I took apart my Grandpa's Stevens 59A 410 shotgun with the intention of touching up the blue on the mag tube and refinishing the stock. It took two weeks back then to sand and Tru Oil the stock to a nice glass finish. Tonight, I finally blued the tube and figured out how to put it all back together. Turned out nice. Still need to paint the trigger guard tomorrow as its aluminum and won't take bluing. I know its just a cheap old shotgun that probably doesn't deserve the Tru Oil and all the attention, but the wood is nice and this will get handed down someday.
