I actually have two barrels for that gun. I had an OLD barrel (probably original) and it was pitted, etc. It was still accurate, but I bought a new barrel a while back. So, I keep that old barrel and plunk each one before it goes in the box. If it doesn't plunk, I try to reseat/crimp a little more until it does.
I also shoot this little 85 grain truncated cone...

My thought would be that the 9x18 is a fatter round which would indicated a slightly larger chamber. When the brass was fire formed it spread out which shortened the case. Just thoughts, but in my mind that makes sense.

That's kind of what I was thinking too, but Ia5676 may be onto something too. In the end it doesn't matter much I suppose. I resized the cases and they stretched back out.

The CZ 52 was designed for two attackers at a time. One in front of you and the second in line with the ejection port!

I installed a stiffer spring from Wolfe (for that pistol) and life is much better!

I've finished trimming and tumbling about 1040-1050 223 cases. I'll prime them tonight and get ready to load them. I'm still sorting and straightening in my loading room. I recently moved about a dozen coffee cans and several trays of brass to the storage room. I also caught some of the Plano Dry Boxes on sale and moved a bunch of primed brass out of 5 gallon buckets into them.

I’m finishing a small batch of 9mm with as cast Lee 38-105SWC( PC’d orange), 4.7grains of Bullseye with Federal primers. I love that load in .38 Special, time to see if it’s as fun in the 9mm Shield. My Beretta 92 liked it with LLA- but it likes everything.

I managed to destroy a RCBS die today. Got a case stuck in it, ripped the base off trying to undo the mistake, don't have a puller but in my all knowing of all things mind decided "aw I can get that out of there". Broke out my drill sets and started drilling. Ended up throwing it in the junk pile, ordered a new one, and if senilty doesn't kick in I will remember this and never do it again.

I emptied the tumbler of twice fired starline .44mag brass from My Chiropractor.
Bought 1,000 new cases last year, already lost over 50, from Cowboy Shooting. I guess those old guys can't see or bend over to pick up brass.
But at least all those old guys are still out there shooting.
Something I Can't do anymore. I have to shoot sitting sown for everything.
I guess I'll never get past that scrambling for every case that hits the ground. Learned it as a little kid, guess I've never got past it.

Then I sorted and boxed them. Just the way I Have Got To Do It.

I unpacked a Lee Classic Turret press, Auto disk powder measure, riser and .38 & .44 powder through expander dies. Took 1000 grit sand paper and polished the flaring nibs on the dies. Then I figured out the workings of the auto disk. Waiting on a quick change set up from Inline Fabrication so I can use the same mount for this Lee press as my Rock Chucker. I should have cleaned up and organized my bench.

Doc,
That is impressive !
In my youth I would cast from 2 20lb pots, back to back. When one ran low, I'd fill it with ingots & sprue then switch to the other pot on opposite end of picnic table. Did 200lbs on one Saturday, 3 4cav molds.
Spent Sunday on icepacks. Ached all week, and I was only 35 at the time.
Never ever cast more then 80lbs in an single session again.
As I stood and looked at all those 50cal ammo cans on Monday night, I said to myself; Now you hafta put every single one thru a Lube-Sizer.

Today I just unwrapped bags & bags of Beautifully Cast & PC'd Bullets from CWLONGSHOT.

Yesterday I took some 452-230-TC bullets that I had lubed and decided that I dont want to use lube any more... So I put them in a tray with paper towels and into the 250 degree oven they went. After the lube looked like it was all melted off I pulled them out and into a acetone soak for 30 minutes.

Today I figured I would powder coat them..... Boy was I wrong! They must have been covered with lube still and the powder coat clumped all over. I learned a good lesson though, Take the lube off with a little wooden tool, then place them sideways on a tray to melt the remaining lube off in the oven. As soon as that is done I put them into a pot of boiling water for 30 minutes.

When the 30 minutes are up I pour the entire pot of water and bullets into a 5 gallon bucket that is 3/4 filled with cold water. I could see the lube that I thought was all gone congeal up at the top but I was wondering how to get the bullets out without getting it all over them again.... So I moved the bucket outside and kept putting in water with the hose until it started over flowing. I then dumped it while spraying in water and keeping my bullets from rolling all around on the driveway.

After I dried them I was going to do a second coat on them but they felt sticky like they had lube on them still... so onto a tray with paper towels again and into the oven again but this time when they were done I dumped them into a bucket of water with dawn dish soap right out of the oven and rubbed them between my soapy hands for a few minutes and then into a clean bucket of water. Now they feel right and hopefully ready for another coat.

I found out the acetone doesn't seem to do anything so I left it out of the process.

Oh, I did this to 60lbs of 44 mag bullets as well and they all feel squeaky clean now, Only about 140lbs of 45-70 bullets to go and I wont have any lubed bullets left :veryconfu

LOL I enjoy the posts!

I cleaned my Pro Melt 2 for the second time and lapped the new style pin to the valve seat with some 1200 grit diamond and tested it with water first. That held and I tried a half pot of lead. Not a stray drip so I tried a full pot. I finally got a few hundred water dropped 432 Larsen bullets cast. The pot went into major drool mode in the middle of my last casting session and I had to stop.

I think I'll order a new PID for the old Pro Melt as a ready threat to embarrass the new one if it messes up.

Yesterday I sat down with my now 27 year old son and gave him a tutorial on a Ruger single action revolver. How to operate, strip it and clean it. We threw a cooking spray can out back and he hit it 4 out of 6 times. Then I passed it on to him with an old flap leather holster and he grinned from ear to ear. I explained that everyone should have a handgun that is fun and cheap to shoot and useful for small game( he only has two SD autos).

I can't find my citric acid, off to walmort. Idea is load them in a little Dawn 1/4 cup of citric acid pint of water in a big grapefruit jar, take them for a ride in the Tacoma to shake them. Rinse well, dry in the sun. On these roads the Toy rides like a paint shaker. Worked well last three tries.

I went out to the loading room this morning just to tinker around some. I was moving some stuff around some and came across a couple of 50 caliber cans that I thought was empty that were not empty. One was full of 38 special brass and one was full of 30-06 brass! So I just thought I was through sorting, depriming and tumbling brass!

Loaded up 5 sets of 10 test rounds in the .223 brass I've been trimming while incapacitated. Finally able to get to loading room. Running some tests on some 62 gr and 55 gr j-words (izzat what they are referred to here) to see if they will function in son's 8.5" SBR. Using Reloader 15, got a lot of it, also got a lot of old AA 2200 Data powder, but I thought that might be too fast for that short barrel. It all works in my longer barrels. If things go smooth this weekend, it's knuckles down when it gets cold again. I got a lot of brass that needs fillin'.

I screwed together a form for a concrete shooting bench top, welded up some rebar, mixed some concrete and poured it. It's about 20 hours in. Pretty stiff, but the temperatures in the garage are pretty cool, so it'll be a while before it's set.

While I'm waiting, I sized, annealed, trimmed, chamfered and primed 100 .223 Rem cases. I'm also warming up some 45/45/10 to lube some bullets I cast last week.

I'm too old to do a lot at any one time,so---over the past week I've separated 1200 .45 ACP cases. Why? you say? Well, they were purchased from a shooting range as floor sweepings and were mixed with those @#$^&$@!*()(*&^% SMALL primers. Thank you Speer and Federal. Got 9&3/4 lbs. of Small P.P. vs.7&1/2 lbs of Large PP.
I can't do anything about Speer and Federal's decisions but I do NOT have to play their game or support their stupid decisions. Those SPP cases will NOT be resold at ANY price, nor taken to a metal recycler. They will be destroyed as cases and recycled as brass JUNK. - - I will not chance seeing them again.

Yes, we brought the rhubarb from my grandmother's farm to our garden years ago. It did real well too.

This was the last that survived an onslaught by an older sister. 8 years ago after my father died(won't admit being related to the 3 sisters, their noses are so high in the air they are in danger of drowning in a drizzle), she mixed up a batch of Roundup and killed all the rhubarb she knew about. "mom doesn't need any of this!"

Well, mom lived until July of this year and had fresh rhubarb from the patch that the sister didn't know about.

Now that the farm is being sold it's past time to transplant it. I've tried several newer varieties, none can compare.

Still don't have a clue why the sister killed the rhubarb, she lives 200 miles away, me, I live 6 miles away and have maintained the homestead ever since, she's done almost nothing.

People are crazy.

Just as long as the rhubarb takes, everything will be just fine.

May even have to dig out dad's rhubarb champagne recipe. He had it down to art, taking rhubarb and turning into a very nice dry to semi-dry sparkling wine. Dry for him, sweeter for mom.

Talk about thread drift, I think I turned it into a train wreck:holysheep

So, are you P, O'd?

Not sure why you're upset about range brass fitting the usual "range brass" level of quality. If it's going to raise your blood pressure that high, you might consider just purchasing new factory LPP brass. IMO it's not worth risking your health over it.

I found $14.

I was cleaning up around my club's reloading bench, where folks tend to be a little messy. I found about 80 loose large and small pistol primers under the presses, scattered on and under the bench and floor. I know they're pistol primers because the presses are all Dillon SDBs that don't do rifle cartridges.

At current gunbroker auction prices, my half hour of clean up netted me well over minimum wage!

Been pretty bummed about the election, so decided I needed to do something in the evenings to stay off the internet and clear my head.

Friday evening I cast about 500 358156s from a 6cav Lee mold I bought from a gentleman here. Had keepers after the 3rd fill! It’s always a pleasure casting with it.

Saturday evening I powder coated the boolits from Friday evening. While they cooked I loaded about 250rds of 38spls on the Pro1000. Mixed brass, win primers, 3gr bullseye under Lee 358158 RF. Press ran great.

This evening before supper I sized all the 358156 from Friday evening to .358. Then loaded one box (50rds) 38spls on the Pro1000 with 358429s.

I feel tons better and had a pretty productive weekend outside, not counting the reloading related stuff!

I pulled 50 factory rounds...They are/were CBC (whoever that is)...

Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos, aka MagTech.

Out of curiosity, I pulled a few rounds of different factory and reloaded pistol ammo salvaged from my range and gently de capped the unfired primers (I only use certain brands of brass). The primers I seated into new cases. Some were slightly out of round and a few got dome shaped from the decapping pin, so I had to hand feed them into the press. They seated fine and the doming flattened out from the primer ram, so they now look like any other primed brass. I haven't loaded or shot any rounds with the salvaged primers yet, but I expect they'll fire. Being of unknown provenance, they'll be for standard velocity plinking rounds only.

My pewter ingot-lets came in, so I remelted 70 +/- 1# COWW ingots, added 2% by weight of the pewter and poured them into a couple of ingot molds, then stamped them "L2". I reserved a good bit of the pewter in case this batch needs more for good fill-out.
Prepped a .444 Handi-Rifle that will get traded for a Savage 110 in .243 - SWMBO has been pining for a .243 she formerly owned and although all my rifles are .30s or fatter I guess I'll have to start stocking 6mm boolits. We're trading dies along with the rifles so at least I don't have the headache of hunting them up.
Removed the fixed sling swivel and useless stacking swivel from my Garand in preparation for (GASP) drilling the stock for actual no-fooling for-real DQ swivel studs. Abandoned the idea of making a plate to attach to the ferrule and gas cylinder where the two swivels were removed bcz, well, that ain't where ya want a bipod anyway, and I realized I'd have to remove it to dismount the action. Quit mourning, it's a Bell & Carlson fibreglas stock which is sacrilege to begin with, at least that's how the purists in the SARTS acted when I bought the M1 less-wood and stuck it into plastic. They also had apoplexy when I took my M1 carbines out of the oil-soaked stocks and put them in Choate plastic with the sling swivel studs screwed into the (GASP) bottom line so I could use a real sling and bipods...and started genuflecting when I put Ultimak scout mounts on all of them. Almost makes me want to find another Garand so I could twist the knife and modernize that one too.

I cast a pile of the 432 Larsen solids this morning. They weigh in at 249g. These were water dropped for magnum loads. Didn't have the mold hot enough to start, the hotplate takes longer to stabilize than the pot. The mold ran well with the alloy at 700F. I really like this mold.

Yesterday: wasted three hours setting up to load .308 for a friend's Browning pump - thought I had a batch of .308 150 gr SPs. Flailed around trying to get the measure to throw 44.0/Varget, finally got it, loaded the first two and did a chamber Czech - SPs stuck in throat, flung Varget all over. Czeched my caliper and zero was .003 off, SPs were .311s. Went to bed. Today: dug out more expensive actual .308 150 gr SSTs, couldn't get brass from M118LR nor M852 to chamber even with the right diameter bullets, flailed around some more finding FC brass and a small base sizer that would actually get the brass to make the trip into the chamber and allow the lockup to work. Loaded the batch and delivered them. Came home, watched movies with the dog while sipping a Bahama Mama. I love my B92 and B53 but will never own a BPR. Now he wants some .30-30s...

I’ve had some old primed .22 K Hornet brass lying about for at least 20 years; I don’t even recall where they came from. I decided to use those primers in something that I actually have, so I carefully de capped them. They are the old rounded face type( probably Western). Humorously, 4or 5 of them had paper shims in them to tighten up the loose primer pocket! I think they will light up some Unique/58gr cast .223 loads for grins.

So, I had some shot shell reloading problems recently, so I loaded 3 rounds (with advice) and will carry them around in my pocket for a couple days to see if it fixes my problem. My Problem was that I was getting powder migration. So, I "fixed" it by adding a .07" card and it packed everything nice and tight. But out of 100 rounds I had one "uncrimp". Someone mentioned to put some newspaper instead of the card and it seems to be working....

Loaded up some .45ACP ammo using 225gr 452374s that were originally cast maybe fifty or more years ago by my father. I know that because when he gave me his lead pot ten years ago he also gave me several hundred 150gr .38 spl bullets with a note indicating that I had been the one to cast them back in 1976. And those were the last bullets cast with that pot until I started it back up ten years ago.

I only had 35 left after figuring out a good recipe last weekend. These are all from the reloading stuff my dad gave my older brother several years ago. He finally decided he's never going to get around to reloading, so asked me if I wanted it. I asked him if I loaded some ammo for him if he'd trust my reloads. He said yes, so these will be going back to him eventually, along with some .30-30 spire point ammo for the single-shot he hunted with when we were kids, and some normal .30-30 ammo for dad's 1955 Winchester 94.

I cast and kept 49 wad-cutter boolits on Saturday morning, December 12, 2020. Had the old Lee double cavity mold for 35 years or so. First time trying it. Using wheel weight ingots I had poured previous weekend. Dropping them onto cloth, not quenching. After a short run, noticed quite a few wrinkled, but had my alloy hot enough (@3 1/2 pounds ) but probably took a spell to burn out old lubricant from mold. Added less than an ounce of tin to the alloy (@8" length of lead free solder, and then had much better results. Perfect actually, .358", weight 150 gr + or - .2 grains. Mostly making sure I have a reliable mold for 38 Special bullets if the supply of components gets even worse.

Deprimed and swaged some crimped 9x19 on my Lee APP. They reprimed easily on my Dillon and I've no doubt that they'll go bang when the need arises, but while it's good to know I have the option, uncrimped 9mm brass is so easy to find I think I'll just avoid the crimped stuff and save the primer pocket swaging for the stash of military 5.56 brass I have.

i switched gears to bo's myself. Loaded up a bunch of test rounds for the ham'r and had 200 110 barnes tssx bullets i just found. they wouldnt work in the ham'r but are my go to bullet in the blackout so i sized and primed whatever 300 bo brass i had and tumbled it yesterday. Today ill load up those barnes bullets and cast in whats left over. Ive got a PILE of loaded bo's already but have been on a load every piece of brass in the shop kick this fall.

I spent the last 2-3 days beating my head against the wall trying to load some 380acp loads without the right equipment . I finely decided to just wait until all the craziness ends .

Deprimed and sized 5lbs each of 38 and 357, they are wet tumbling now. I did these on my Lee app with my Dillon case feeder supplying the cases. Man am I impressed with that app press.

Shoveled off my bench and I gave my home built PID a test run. Works great. Also did a small batch of,45's with one of the new colors I got from Smoke

Resized and trimmed 104 45-70 cases. I found 4 Hornady cases - have NO idea where those came from. But those hornady cases are about 1/16" short. So, I've seperated them out... I'll have to see where my boolit seats in those cases so I have the same volume/charge.

Reloaded 200 rounds of 30-30 with 6.5 grains of Red Dot and an Accurate 312-157R and 10 rounds with an NOE 150 grain hollow point. All lubed with Carnuba Blue. Then moved to 50 270Win with the RCBS 270-150 lubed with Lyman Orange Magic. Between me, friend, and his kids, we are almost at 1000 of these 30-30 through the Marlin 336 and 3000 through the 270. They are a hoot!
