Those look suspiciously like some loading blocks that my son made for me when he worked at PolyFab down in Eufaula. I love them!

Thanks Tom, I hope to have these ready to offer within the next couple of weeks. So stay tuned.

Lubed, sized and loaded some Lee 358-125 RF and ran a magazine full through my CZ. They chambered without a hitch, which surprised me. As I posted earlier the Lee 356-120 TC had to be sized to .357 to chamber in the CZ . It just tickles the stuff out of me that these other boolits will work, as my Ruger likes a .358 boolits, and my son can use some if needed. I may just have a meltdown of the TC boolits that are already cast, lubed and sized to .357 and recreate them to the RF boolits.

Finished 500 MP Molds HG 503 Cup Points 44 Magnums. They weigh 260 grains and Im running themsized to .432 behind 23.1 grains of 300 MP and a WLPP. They do about 1.5 inches at 100 yards from a rifle and expand and hold together nicely in water jugs losing almost no boolit weight. They will be added to this years hunting rotation.

Eureka ! I cast some excellent Lee 6 cavity 120 gr TCN bullets with my new Master Pot. My problem was simply adjust the thermostat which I was able to dial in with the lead thermometer I bought. My new Lee bullet rest insert that goes in the other mould rest I made worked perfectly raising the Lee mould 1/4 of and inch higher then it was at the Lyman mould setting I set the shelve and my mould rest at . Now I have tubs of bullets ready to cast and a bunch to lube size. I also made a simple and effective thermometer holders from a piece of 1" flat band metal 1/8" thick as MOA here in this thread suggested, It swings oput of the way to remove dross and stir the pot or add more alloy I had the pot up to 800F and the sprues were frosted the bullets very nice . I'll add these results today to the thread in the Star equipment corner of bullets casting equipment I started on Master Pot experiences and mods . The thread link is two posts above this one Thanks to all for your replies with the troubles I had with wrinkled bullets

Prepped a hundred 45-70 cases sized trimmed expanded and primed. But it's in the eighties can't face loading them up .

GONRA
07-23-2019, 04:56 PM
GONRA’s Suppressed 5.7x28mmFN “FiveseveN” Pistol load creation:

As others have suggested, NO ERRORS can be tolerated in 5.7x28mFN loading! KABOOM!
(Don’t believe GONRA? Google / Search “KABOOM” on “5 7 websites”!!!)
As with any reloading project, make sure Little Family (pets too!) are off in slumber land
to avoid Endless Family Distractions.

Fired 5.7x28mFN cases can hava “balloon” shape that reloaders are NOT USED TO DEALING WITH. SO…. Be sure to use a Big Robust Axially Aligned Press. Rotate shell holder to find any “sweet spot”.
With quality dies and FIRST CLASS CASE LUBE uniform resized cases will be produced.

RCBS SMALL BASE dies, STP Oil Treatment or TriFlow Synthetic Grease for a case lube verks for me.
(If polymer coating peals off, press is out of axial alignment or you have crummy dies.)

With such setup, prepped cases dimensions should very closely match factory ammo.

No need was wash cases or otherwise make a Pointless Huge Deal “cleaning ‘em up.”
Just leave the ultra thin sizing lube coating ON THE CASE BODY. Won’t hurt anything!!!
(Asa general rule for semiautos, it encourages reliable functioning.)

It pays to go to extraordinary means to avoid NO or DOUBLE charges in this caliber!
(No charge means a bullet stuck in the bore.
Remember - blowback or (as this pistol) case wall / chamber friction retarded blowback actions
MUST HAVE BULLET LEAVE THE BARREL or KABOOM!)
Popular Suppressed FiveseveN Pistol load of 3.4 grains HS-6 powder CANNOT be properly
viewed / eyeballed waaay down in the cartridge case. Don’t kid yerself on this…..

Create 3.4 grains HS-6 powder charge using RCBS scale with BEAM BALANCE PAN.
Remove powder charged pan,
Check charge weight with beam balance.
Touch it up with a Powder Trickler.

Use new ALL METAL Lyman (heavy cast Aluminum) .22 funnel to properly
drop charge into 5.7x28 EA 07 new primed cartridge case.
(Avoids all sorts of goofy distracting STATIC issues.
Otherwise – wonder where all those stray reloading bench powder grains come from?)

Insert (point first) 2 inch heavy concrete nail into charged case to mark it as “charged”.
(Now you can’t DOUBLE CHARGE IT!!!!!!!)
When a batch of cases is charged, remove markers one ata time and
seat (flat base) 50 grain Hornady#2240 SP SX bullet with
Hornady .224 sliding sleeve seat die Hornady Seating Die 044102 .22 .
(Normal seat die will be Just Fine for boat tail bullets of course.)

Got a Lee 200SWC 6 cavity .45acp mould in the mail. cleaned it with Coleman fuel, set it up and heated it by casting a few times lubed the critical points with beeswax on a pin to keep it from going all over and cast about 40 bullets then started keeping them I cast 151 good bullets at 775F The mould was up at 165F on the aluminum mould blocks and 440F on the iron sprue with my Craftsman infrared thermometer if its right. I did not replace any spures with the Master Pot having about 35 pound in it when I started casting . I weighed the spures and first bullets at 6.64 pounds and the 151 bullets at 4.38 pounds . The weight of two were 203.4 grains I selected which came out to 4.38 pounds (7000 grains to one pound) so I went through 11.02 pounds of lead just a bit more then 1/2 of my Lee 20 pound pot with 6 some pounds going back into the big pot nest time I cast. No heat issues after about 1/2 the bullets I turned the Master Pot down to 700F and it was still above 750 when I was finished I started at 775F on the Tstat and it still was going up so I will back the Tstat down a tad next time. Now that I have several tubs of cast bullets its summer and time for a break and get all those bullets lube sized and then loaded

Scrapped 49 pieces of 243 brass after finding several that were about to come apart a half inch above the rim.

The 50th one was scrapped on the range at the last match when I had one separate when I was shooting.
Probably should have retired that batch of brass earlier.

Dug out another box of 50, got those sized with no apparent issues.

F/L sized 40 pieces of 416 Rigby.

More packing. I'm trying to get all of the parts of each item together like die sets that aren't in toolheads, swage parts, press parts and so on so that all of each item is together when moved. Putting all of each type of brass in one container when possible. Discovered that if I put all of the .40 S&W together it would be heavier than a cardboard box, even a really good one, could stand. Same for the .45 ACP. I probably have 400+ pounds of empty brass in a big variety of cartridges.

Next step is to start packing the machine shop and gunsmithing tools.

I started re packaging my cast boolits!!!

They have been gettin outta hand in freezer zip loc on the floor in small dbl re enforced boxes. I found some perfect plastic jars and ordered 5 dz of them! I wanted to be sure I had enough for the shelving unit I am gonna build. (2x8 construction) Floor to ceiling 48” wide shooting for two bottles deep on the shelves. Each bottle will hold about 350 158g 35’s. So more of smaller and less of the bigger. But clear so I can see WO a label. Ill marker top W/dia & Weight & BHN.

I decided there had to be a better way to store Lyman and Ideal DC mould blocks. I had been storing them in individual Lyman plastic mould boxes, took way to much space. The other day our local Rural King had several Plano boxes that got wet and had these big ones marked at $2.50 each and that sparked the idea! Would not want many more as the box gets pretty heavy. Single cells work well for SC blocks and Arsenal moulds are also not to tall for the box. Do not work with RCBS, LBT or Saeco blocks.

Also confirmed that I have to many Lyman handles and not enough RCBS handles. I have 1 RCBS handle for 6 mould blocks.

DARN IT!! 2x8’s aint wide enough. GRR. Gonna be a bit more costly... I had a pile of about a doz 2x8 left from a old shed roof project. I dont have but maybe 2 2x10’s!! But its gonna need 2x10 even then they are only 9” wide but should be enough to stack the bottles two deep as I need.

I prepped 120 308 cases for my buddy. (He is a suedo re loader) He likes speed loading and speed accuracy... ;) Meaning he has no time for trimming or tumbling or primer Pocket duties. Or proving accuracy loads that aint accurate. We got lucky with a couple previous rifles and discovered accurate loads FIRST THING. This one is now on third go around. But what he DOSENT SEE is EVERYTHING so far is nice round groups no flyers what so ever. So its just a matter of time till we discover the right load producing correct harmonics and BINGO. He just wants the “high points”. :)

I dont mind I have power trimmer and case prep station tools. That and this 120 will last him his entire life. He blasts with a 9mm or 300bo. He loads them both progressive on his 650 in minutes. :bigsmyl2: He says.:veryconfu

One of my least favorite jobs....dis-assembling ammo and sorting/weighing components. About 12 years ago a friend gave me many boxes of 9mm, 44Mag, 38Spl, and I also acquired several boxes of 30-06 from an estate sale.

None of which I would trust the reloader enough to shoot....so I used a Kinetic Bullet puller and started whacking away. I don't know what the powder is so it all goes into the "misc" powder can for the garden.

The bullets were sorted by weight and type and put in old bullets boxes (I like the Sierra Green boxes) and labeled for contents.

It has taken me about 6 hours of time so far just for 6 boxes of pistol ammo (50 each) and 8 boxes of 30-06 (20 each). I only have about 4 boxes of pistol ammo left....but it is making the bench look a little cleaner.

I like a collet better. The whack a mole is for a single bullet here or there. BUt serious tear down I like the RCBS and the Hornady. I have been using the Hornady and just bought a 35 cal cause its a cam and fits better on my turrett than the t handle that makes a wide berth to spin.

I got about 7-800 K hornets from a small localShop that didn't know what they where. All powder, bullets primed cases where saved. I ID’d the powder as 2400. But dose t truly matter cause I also weighed the charges. (GOOD THING I TORE DOWN!!!!) they had upwards of 15g but most had 12... Bullets where Berger 40’s and N osler BT 40’s. I simply worked it up in same Cases using same bullets seated just off rifling in my SS H&R. THEY AHOOT AWESOME AND IM SHOOTING FOR FREE!!

I finally got to clean my NEF today. It's been too hot to stay in the shed for more than a few minutes at a time until today. I pulled the boresnake through it a time or two , then ran a few Kroil soaked patches, Then a few Hoppe's #9 patches, followed by another Kroil patch and one soaked with RemOil. The last ones came out spotless.

Then I got a wild hare up my ...... and decided to change the rings on the rifle. I haven't mounted a scope in probably 15 years on anything, and I cant see as well as I used to. but after some trial and error I had the old style Weaver rings secured and made sure the hammer didn't hit the rear bell on the scope, tightened the screws and made sure the hook on the rings was secure. I'll take it to the range the next time I go and see how much fiddling I'll have to do to re-sight it in, and make sure that the recoil doesn't loosen anything...

Last night I showed my friend and handloading student how to load .45 ACP on the Dillon 550. He got a taste of how to load on the Rock Chucker a week or so ago, loading 100 .40 S&Ws. While he appreciated the ease and speed of the 550 (about an hour for his first 100, moving slowly and cautiously) he saw the complexities of setting up a progressive for a small run. He is firmly convinced that he needs to start with a single stage press and is looking for a good used Rock Chucker or Redding. I gifted him a Thumler's Tumbler, 4-70 dies, polishing media, a Lyman #47 manual, some 45-70 brass, boolits and J-words to help get him started. We also loaded some 45-70 dummy rounds for giggles.

If you are intending for your AR to cycle, none of the faster powders will maintain enough of a gas pulse for cyclic operation. I did my original tests in a Mini-14 which operates at a gas volume less than required by my AR 15s. H110 is slower, but I never tested that powder. While conducting my initial tests, a Thompson Center Contender single shot was used as they are hell-for-stout. Primers were blown out and primer pockets as well. I went back to the loads that did not blow primers and they would not cycle the Mini. I now have a H&R Handi Rifle for testing, also hell-for-stout.

My successful tests for Mini and AR full function utilized H4227, a load right out of Lyman manuals. Utilizing the Lyman 225-415 55gr GC mould. Although I did not have my chronograph that first day, the ESPC GC boolit showed 1" grouping at 2250fps from a 16" bbl.

Later, I purchased a NOE 225-62-RN PB mould for ESPC with this above listed load. Although the boolit shoots fine through the Mini 14, it would not cycle the AR15. I believe that may be due to reduced pressure relative to the slick powder coated boolit. I tried to incrementally increase the charge until full cycling of the AR15. I achieved that but as the load increased the groups spread. I believe that was a result of the base obturation with higher pressure.

I will try a stiffer alloy for later testing but for now I have a great load for the Mini 14, the Handi Rifle (which clocked 2450 from it's 24" bbl) and an AR15 pistol with it's shorter gas tube system. I know, silly, but my brother built one so I had to. It is obnoxiously load with factory loads . . . but I like it :-) Not so with the H4227 load . I get 110 or so boolits for a pound of alloy so at 3$/pound for hardcast it should be good. Whereas 55gr FMJ poke clean holes through a tin can, the lead boolit shreds it, tears it, really makes the can react . . . I like it :-) It also bangs steel without damage to the plates.

Oh, this thread was about 'what did you do in the relading' I sorted my AR15 cast ammo from my Mini 14 ammo, I headed to the range shortly.

Well today I ...

Smelted 25 pounds of Lino scraps and Lino saw chips. I cast four boolits from this batch and pencil tested them, they tested at a HB pencil, about 14-15 BHN. This is a little lower in hardness than what I was hoping for. This was a dirty smelt. There was a lot of trash mixed in with this batch of scrap.

Then I smelted 40 pounds of fishing weights. Cast four boolits and pencil tested them, they tested at a 4B pencil, about 9 BHN.

Then my Coleman stove quit working. I dismantled and cleaned the burner, dismantled and cleaned out the generator tube, and then reassembled everything.

And then I ...

Smelted 25 pounds of pewter. I made these into 1/4" thick coins in my full size muffin pan. I still have two grocery bags full of pewter that I did not smelt. I have enough and should probably stop buying this stuff.

After I did all of the above, I then organized my lead stash. I marked all my ingot batches with a unique identifier. Examples: three taps with a philips screw driver, or one tap from a .223 case, or two taps from a .38 case. I have gotten a lot of lead in small batches and just want to keep it segregated.

Found that a big strong magnet is a great tool for picking COWW up out of old buckets. It was much faster than trying to dig them out with a gloved hand. I don’t like digging through WW with bare hands.

Getting ready for the move, I bought lots of new 5 gallon buckets and made sure that each bucket weighed 70 pounds. I can stack them 3 high but at 100 pounds each it was a struggle to lift just one to stack into another due to old injuries. I did some separating and organizing while I was at it. Culled lots of big truck zinc and some steel.

A couple of weeks ago I organized the boolits and brass. A friend stopped by and today we loaded the little boxes into U-Haul book boxes trying to keep them in the 60-70 lb range. Those 4x4x4” boolit boxes can get heavy fast.

Federal Brass Average weight 203 grains

PPU brass Average weight 191 grains

FNM brass Average weight 185 grains

Hornady brass Average weight 176 grains.

I thought this interesting as it must affect the case internal volume and therefore pressures.

Case prep.

Did all the prep work for 128 30-06 brass which are destined for the M1 Garand. Now they're ready for primers. I would have done a LOT more but somehow, I snapped the decapping pin on my die. New one on order so in the meantime, I'm just doing a smaller batch.

Fun stuff, regardless!

I fixed to stocks today.

My Savage 24 I just restocked has cracked again. I found that I didnt properly fit the sides and it cause dthe cracks. I have relieved the wood and glued it back together. Hoping its gonna hold.

My Howa Mini was also re stocked with a Boyds lam stock. I pillar bedded it and floated the barrel. Its a supper shooter. But my attention was elsewhere since late last year. Moving it in the safe I found that the barrel channel had WARPED!! SO... I have re relieved the barrel channel.
Then I decided to change the look and feel. Boyds stocks are quite blocky and unfinished. So I finished it! Smoothing everything, slimming the forend and fitting the grip.

It went really quickly and Im very pleased with the slimmer stock lighter weight and better ergos!!

Its laminated but I decided to paint it.

I finally had time to load some tokarov rounds 7.62x25. I have a lee dies. The only ones I could find in that caliber. The seating die works but the radius on the bullet is getting into the die before it will do the crimp. Some will make it ok but most do not. Unsure what to do about this. May just have to buy a different Mold and cast some more. OH DARN! on the cast some more. Accurate has a mold but is 90 dollars. I've had great luck with the Accurate 31-085BG mold. It is a TC shape so it does not have problems chambering. I also had him make it without a lube grove and I PC them. I also size to .309. But when loading these, I do a plunk test for each round to make sure it plunks into the chamber.

Next is to go pickup 5 bags of shot, 5 pounds of 700x, 1000 209 primers, a couple thousand wads and 300 once fired AA hulls from a guy who is getting out of shooting.

I do think from the bullet I found on the berm last week that the 50/50 was all gone by the time the bullet hit the berm. Though I had no leading so I guess it did its job.

There was about a pound of 7-1/2’s in the powder... what appeared to be a sealed can wasn't.

I got lucky, all powder and all the SAME 700X powder. I eyeballed it before I loaded it into the truck. [smilie=w:

I got sort of hooked 15-20 years ago buying a bunch of reloading stuff at a garage sale. There was a can of Red Dot that when I got it home and poured it out to double check it, was most definitely two powders mixed together. Luckily what a paid for all the other powder/primers/press/shot/wad/hulls more than made up for the 5 lbs. of Red Dot/mystery powder fertilizer.

If I remember correctly, I sold the press for more than I paid for the batch.

Also got a new/used Lyman 457-125, so will cast up a hundred or so of those to work up a load for the 45-70 and the 45-120, but I have to wait for the pot to cool down so I can change from the double orifice to the single for the 457-125. Shot pretty well by the end. But first relay my scope came loose... fixed and it nearly FELL
OFF before I completed the second. As I had to take a DNF for the first, I shot down the side of the barrel For the last four poppers. (I HIT EACH ONE ONE SHOT!!) for the third relay i got to learn why I installed back up sites...one the sixth relay I was THE fastest to complete with five shooters after me and 55 in front.

I helped pick up and stack the steel so I got about 1/3 a deep 5gal pail of 40/10&45 acp. The have a separator but only 9mm smaller and 40 and bigger. I dont do 9mm. ;). Thats the brass in the tumblers now.

Got them run through the sizing dies and then a good rinsing in hot water and then a spin in the Turbo tumbler for a few hours to dry them out totally and put a good shine on them. Got them setup in my new loading blocks with the top extension block to provide some extra vertical support. So nice to have a loading block that will take the base of the 45-70 case easily.

Last summer I broke out the Lyman 310 and loaded some 38 special. I think I prepped about 100 cases and finished up about 50 total while watching a few boxing matches. It was nice to spend all that time and still have bullets left. At 500+ rounds an hour with the Dillon I would have blasted through a ton bullets and had nothing to load after that.

Great idea. I'll leave the rest for another day. I'll load some 45s tomorrow.

Amen to that.

That’s what I do every evening, load 50 to 100 38 spl. Mostly waiting on horses to finish evening feeding. I could do on the 650, but it’s so fast I’d be out of something in no time at all. Load all week for about 1 hr target shooting on Saturday. Slow and accurate.

I wish I had more 310 dies. Just 38/357 and 45/70

Just got my range bag loaded for tomorrow. I gotta re-sight my 30/30 A.I. after I changed the rings on the rifle. Plus phart around with my CZ 75 SP01...... maybe shoot some steel if the range isn't crowded.

Fitting a never ground factory Remington pad for the 870. Miles to go but look at it wet- may end up pretty.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190914/7b28655aa8680312a56854898d3ae800.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190914/fbd311e6bb144accff48f4101ec66f18.jpg

Now I’m really jealous of that reloading block you have, with the topper you use for taller cartridges. That is just neat, I’ll have to do as a project for a friend, and myself, it’s not patented is it?

Resized the 9mm brass that I fired Saturday, as well as the 30/30 A.I. that I fire formed with full loads that I loaded probably ten or more years ago. They all formed well, but I'll be better able to check them after I run them through the tumbler, plus I need to check the length of the brass.

This morning I turned on the tumbler and finally turned it off about 8:00pm. The brass was super shiny and it all measured as I had hoped it would, no trimming needed. That made me very happy!

Did inventory on primers.

I need to order about 10k Large Rifle.

I also need to organize my primer storage places. I've got them all stored together now, I need to put SP here, LP there, LR over yonder.

That sure would make it easier to keep count.

Loaded 30 rounds of 7x61 Sharpe & Hart.

Tried to form some 7x61 cases from 300 Win Mag, ugly results, may try a very light anneal on the neck tonight, then try again. I anneal at night, with the lights outs only light is the torches and a TV with an old film noir movie going (dim screen, dark music, great for a little reloading alchemy). Never have had any luck annealing before reforming before always crumpled the shoulder. This case may be the exception.

Did have some success converting 7mm Remington Mag. Takes almost as much effort as 300 Weatherby to 300 H&H.

Melted down all the range scrap into Lyman ingots. Got about 80 ingots poured. While cleaning up I found another 20 lbs. of old wheel weights now I have more to melt down. Before that I reloaded 30 rds. of 43 Spanish.

Started a new adventure. I have a 380 SCCY on order and I've gathered components and tools for reloading. I sized, flared and primed 50 new Starline cases. Got some 100 gr cast RN and some Hornady 90 gr XTP. ready to stuff and looking at powders. I have W231, Bullseye and CFE Pistol that would apply to this cartridge and just thinin' about which one to use.

I seem to be going smaller in my old age. I started with 38 Special then 44 Magnum and stayed with the 44 for several years. Decided to give a semi-auto a try so got a 1911 and started reloading 45 ACP. I always thought 9mm was a "small"cartridge that just didn't appeal to me, but about 20 years ago I picked up an inexpensive 9mm Tokerev, and then an FMK and then a Ruger LC9, and now a 380. I don't think I can go any smaller mainly because I finf the 380 cases are about as small as I can handle...

Wow, fun day in the reloading room. Started using the two Lyman lube/sizers I refurbished last march and what a surprise I got. Went to load the top punch into it's dedicated location on the main shaft after opening up the lock screw and found that there was no hole drilled in it for the top punch. So had to change out for the other luber I had and got the job done. Just sent email off the Lyman along with this and a few other images of the problem. lol

Yes, once I start moving the shoulder it takes both hands and about 15-20 times in and out of the die, turning a few degrees every time. Plus keeping the neck absolutely squeaky clean or I get lube dents. I've never had to be as finicky to keep the necks dry while reforming brass as this conversion.

Don't really need to do this, I have 140 pieces of factory brass already, it's more "can I do it?"
