Surfed Ebay, caught a Lyman NIB 280473 2 cavity. The Finance Committee said you just bought dinner and that lasts a few hours, it lasts longer than that just buy it and be happy. Got home and bought it. BrassMagnet set me upon this road.

I talked to an electrician about getting some new light fixtures and two or three receptacles installed...I need them desperately.
He needs some renovation and addition plans drawn for his house project ...and I need some electrical work done in mine .....
We going to help each other out....he can't draw building plans and I can't wire electrical stuff !

That sounds like a good trade. Barter is a pretty good system.

I figured I would give the new 50 cal press mounted wad cutter a little more exercise today with some felt from duro-felt, and some sheet cork I got from Hobby Lobby to bolster the ready supply of black powder components for the Swede rollers.

The sheet of cork was about 14 inches by 20 or so.

The felt was a strip about 3 inches by 36 inches.

Also had this happen...

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180606/c1c520bdcf537b9cc72d99b4fed44b8d.jpg

So I fixed it. The old wood handle sucked. It was REALLY tiny, didn't look nice, and had been chewed on at some point. I had a piece of Padauk lying around, so I made a new handle for it. I also welded the head back onto the shaft (get you mind out of the gutter!). I'm not the best welder, but this thing isn't meant to look perfect anyways. The head is rarely that clean.

Any way you can get a longer screw and put a nut and lock washer on the other end to hold it? You might be able to hollow out a spot on the outside of the threaded part to help hold/hide the nut.

That's where I'm leaning, inletting a nut to bridge the stripped hole and provide a bite for the screw. It's going to be tight and no way is a new part to be found.

Added a Hi-Point carbine 4595 to my list of firearms. After a few shots, took it in the shop and worked on the rear sight, moving it in-line with the rail. Tightened the screws and now ready to try sighting in again this afternoon. Have some bags of corn in my truck for the feeder at the lease. Squirrels opened a bag and it led me to get the .177 pellet gun out. Resighted it to point of aim at the same distance that the shot at the squirrel is sitting on a limb to see if I will really come out the door before he leaves. Oh, the carbine has a little manual in the box that starts of by saying if you shoot anything but f...fa....factory bbullets in it the warranty is void. Do not shoot reloads. Only high quality factory rounds. Do not use the offbrand hi count magazines as that will void the warranty. The warranty is only good to the first owner All this could could alter the sales of the carbine. It does have a good reputation of shooting everything you feed it well. Might work pretty good with a red dot sight.

I have 40 cal boolits just like that. I can't use them in my Star lubesizer as the lube gets on the front and rear, but not in the grease groove. I try adjusting the ram up, and down with no luck. I took the die out and plugged up 3 of the 4 holes with no difference. I don't know if these boolits should be tumble lubed or not. I like using the Star, but these boolits won't lube the groove. Anybody know why?

I'm another that thought of JB Weld first off. It bonds well to all sorts of plastics, can take a tap to cut threads. JB Weld is a prime tool for fixing those black plastic ABS holding tanks on RV's and campers. Which reminds me of the thin glue that is black and made for the black plastic pipe. It hardens into plastic with good bond and is used to patch larger tank holes with plastic screen as a backer. This might also coat and bond to existing worn threads partly filling the hole and allow for running a tap through to cut new threads.

NOE 316-213-RN, Al's version of the 312299/314299, but with a larger diameter for the giant bore on my 91/30.
CWW + 1% Sn. These drop at .3165-.317.

Cast a full pot, then decided to run another. Ended up with 27 pounds of these, about 850-900 boolits. This should hold me into next year. I shoot about 100 per month, for practice and at the monthly Military Bolt-gun Match at the club.

This NOE mold is such a pleasure to use. It's a 5-cavity, and makes piles in a hurry. I just run at a leisurely pace, the mould stays at a good temp, and I'm not rushed.

Yeah, they have these new fangled things they're calling jackets. Think they're made of copper or something. I figure it's just a fad. At least the tip is still lead. :D

The sleeve worked perfectly for these. Those bullets were a TIGHT fit in those reformed cases, and they are just flat based with almost no chamfer to them. I had no problems seating them straight though.

Sorted through 18 pounds of brass from an indoor range. It was roughly 70% 9mm, which is what I wanted. I got quite a bit of 22lr cases too.
After I sorted the 9mm, 22lr, and 223 brass from the rest I dumped some of the 9mm cases into my tumbler and let it do its thing for a while. After those were clean I sprayed them down with case lube and started depriming them. Got another batch going in the tumbler while I was depriming. After I got the first half of them deprimed I ended up coming in the house and relaxing.

This thread is what is going to keep me going while I move. Since my reloading room will be in shambles. Oh today I boxed up 7 more totes full of stuff in the reloading room.

I also picked up my PC9 I ordered months ago and gave it a good cleaning. While I was at the shopping waiting on the NICS check I found a set of RCBS 35 rem dies asked how much and the kid said five bucks. This was a welcome find since I had just brought home a Marlin in 35 Rem that had been sitting at an old friends place for years.

Consolidated a stack of pewter plates, candlesticks and odd vases into one easy to store 4 lb. ingot. Starting to free up some bench space. Two or three more 4 lb. ingots and I'll have this winter's pewter scrounging into a storable form.

Nothing in the reloading room but drifted through a Salvation Army today and walked out with 3 Lbs. 15 3/4 ounces of pewter for $5.83. They had more but the price was way out of line on the items I left. This will get the big ingot treatment. Current, in use pewter gets cast into boolit size pot sweeteners. Easy to throw in how many I think I need to get what is in the pot to cast well. Got enough in boolit form to last me into next winter.

Uncluttered the bench of part of the stash of pewter yesterday, filled the space back up today. It's a never ending battle.

Since my return from NCBS 2018 I have had an attack of the Lazies. So, yesterday I set about storing the unfired ammo and fired brass from that excursion. Today's missions (to commence in a few minutes when the CFL games come on TV in the garage) will be to process 100 new 303 British brass for its first fill-up. The fired brass from NCBS will get a tumble while this is under way. The fired guns from NCBS need cleaning as well. Always lots to do at the gun/reloading bench--I need to give it more of my time.

Well after casting up a small pile yesterday in the kitchen I am going to load them up in some new brass thats been waiting to become cartridges. Did about half of them today and will finish up the other half tomorrow. No sense getting in a hurry to do it all in one day, it will be raining again all day tomorrow so I have saved some so I can mess around with it while it's raining. I wanted to load some of the new 44 cal that I cast up yesterday but found out that I was out of gas checks for that caliber, so will have to wait until the order from Midsouth arrives.

Cleaned and polished a Pacific DL-105 while digging through scrap wood to find some plywood to mount press on so I can clamp to bench. Started removing the press dies for 16 gauge and installing the ones for 12 gauge. Showed daughter the difference between single stage, turret, and progressive press. Reduced the incredibly ugly pewter tray and two candle sticks to a more manageable 5" round 3/4" thick ingot to store. I think I did the world a favor by melting down that tray. Made 8 new seats for the rifle range stools at the club. I made the old ones 15+ years ago and they are getting pretty rough. Next time it will be somebody else's turn.

Got home and began shooting my 45 Bersa Thunder Pro working up the ladder with a Lee 45 acp Lrn 236 gr, Hitek Gold and CFE Powder. Probably two more series of four shots each will get me near, then play some more with the load chosen for verification. Ran out of bullets. Cast 395 ( actual count) and first coat of Hi-Tek Gold. Now they get to dry all night long. It is too late to cook them after they are dry. Did some smoothing and such on the two banger Lee mould and maybe they are closer to 230 grains than before when they weighed 234 grains to 237 grains. Maybe pictures later.

22ea. 250gr. Keith boolits cast from COWW sweetened with 2% tin in a Lyman 429421, then Powercoated red. Seated over 20gr. of 2400.

28ea. 245gr. Hollow points of my own design cast in a DIY modified Lee 429-240-2R mold from 50/50 Coww/pure w/ 2% tin. Powercoated zombie killing green. Over the same charge of 20gr. of 2400.

A truck full of lead and all the powder that would fit in a steamer trunk won't do you any good without primers. If recent events have shown anything they have reinforced the concept of components will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no components.

Buy it cheap and stack it deep. We are but one event or election away from wishing we had twice as much on hand. And of course after the event or election everyone will be trying to do that at once so.... yeah. BTW - 5000 count primer bricks save money :-D

Put gas checks on the boolits I cast the other day. After I did, I weighed some and they all ran around 157.1 or 2. Micrometer said 311 as cast, so I put another coat of JPW on them and stood them up to dry. It was really warm, even with the a/c on. I'm going to wipe their noses off and load them for my 30/30.
I also perused my powder stash to see what was available..... and found a pound of H110 and a half pound of 2400! My .44 will be happy!

I can remember the first time that happened after I got started in reloading, it was the summer of 86 and everyone was looking for primers and powder and non to be had. Well I got my 44 gas checks in the mail yesterday so today it was time to make up the Nasties.
Only issue that slowed me down for about 15 minutes was how I was going to seat these pointies. No real seater with this sharp of an angle and of workable diameter and length. So I used the Lyman expander M die with the size plug removed and I used the Lyman top Punch that was made for the profile that also arrived with the gas checks yesterday. Here's how it went in my reloading room today.

Made a Lee style trim gage for the 9.3x74r, trimmed a batch, sized, lubed and g/c'ed a batch of 9.3 boolits then loaded them.

Got a good start on an 8x60s trim gage. Used a piece of stainless bolt I had, brought back bad memories of drilling and tapping epoxied in stainless steel inserts in granite machine bases back in my machine building days. Now I remember why I always started with several NEW drills and several NEW taps on each job. When done those used drills/taps got thrown out. Wasn't going to risk breaking a dull drill/tap.

After supper going to get out the shotgun stuff just in case it doesn't rain and I can shoot a little sporting clays.

TexasbyGOD,
That "unidentified" bullet looks like a LEE .429-200-RF. By weight listed they might be a bit soft. I thing LEE uses a HARDBALL alloy for checking their molds.

I finally got around to fixing up some messed up .44WCF ammo I loaded several years ago.
First time I used a LEE collet crimp die. Used according to the directions, the cases were over crimped and bulged so they wouldn't chamber in anything.

I pulled the decapping rod assembly out of an old LYMAN Sizing Die. Screwed the die just far enough down in the press, so that the ram shoved the loaded round into the die to barely make any contact, about 1/8"-1/4" or so.
I lubed each round with a bit of that good IMPERIAL SIZING WAX. Wiped off each case clean with a bit of acetone on a rag.
I tried each round in an old COLT & then cycled them through one of my 1873's.
Success. They all fit without a problem.
Two boxes of .44WCF ammo back on the shelf, ready to shoot.

If you DON'T follow the instructions by LEE for their collet crimp dies, but rather adjust by feel as you would with a reg crimp die. Then they will work fine.

Removed a old plywood work bench that my Dillion 650 was mounted to. Rebuilt and framed it much stronger and laid a 3/4" sheet of OSB as a base and laminated a 3/4" sheet of oak veneer plywood as a surface and trimed with red oak. Now the 650 will have a strong and sturdy mounting surface dedicated to it. Will be able to mount my RCBS current press at the other end of the bench. Pictures to follow when finished.

Im thinking Tupperware for the powder container, but I'm open to suggestions. All my powder is bought in 8lb jugs. The loading block is a styrofoam insert from a box of factory 45ACP.

Is there anything else I might be missing or that might make my time easier?

I have been trying to expand mine for almost two years... I have one corner of the basement, but its gotten quite full. :) I built a pantry/ storage room of sorts for the wife two years back and bought extra lumber. I built that storage in opposite corner and it left 17' between the two walls along one end of my basement. I have it framed. (One 17' wall) My plan is to move one cabinet and knock a hole in the will of existing loading room for access to this new room. I want drenches all around the walls. Narrow, like a lab room, as the room is only 10' wide. My hope is to gain a dedicated cleaning area (Cabinets/shelving above) and another progressive/ test load, loading bench.

I just need the drive to finish... told myself last winter was the time... I was very busy at work and when I got home, I was out of "gas". :)

Used my recently purchased Dillon 550B to turn out 100 rounds of 9mm, it went fairly well considering I have 2 RCBS Piggybacks that I have been using for 15+ years and the silly Dillon press rotates the other way and has to be manually indexed. I loaded several K .38 special.

I'm a rank amateur, set up the square deal B and loaded up a couple hundred .38 specials. Trying to clean up small partial batches of boolits--load 2 different round noses and 2 different truncated cones. May get into the wad cutters before I run out of brass.

You paid $75 for a Dillon 550B???? You sir, are either a shrewd negotiator or the luckiest man in Minnesota! I thought the manual indexing might be a problem for me coming from an auto indexing SDB, but as promised by the guys at Graf's, its a non issue after a couple hundred rounds. You find another 550 under $300, give me a call!!!

It was one of those right time right places a friend had bought someone's reloading equipment for 100 bucks and he just wanted the turret press. He said there's a blue press in the box yet and I said I will buy that without hesitation. Not sure what I was gonna end up with I figured for 75 bucks it didn't really matter it was going to be a Dillon. He brought it in and it was pretty much complete with 9mm dies and a baggy of parts. I offered a hundred and he said that's what I paid so 75 bucks it was!

Loading .38 Special on a Rockchucker in 100 plus degrees. I'm turtleloading in 15 min increments. Using up Hornady swaged hp, then Lee 105swc, 150 swc Lees if I still have brass. Bullseye and Unique crunched through my old Redding measure.
Good times.

I had so much fun powder coating yesterday I thought I would try my luck today and see if my results from yesterday were just beginners luck, plus I wanted to use another thermometer to see just what was going on with the new oven that did not want to go over 350 degrees.
Well used another thermometer but was giving same reading that the other new one was giving me yesterday. Guess I'm just going to have to get this PCing to work at the lower temp. Here was today's results until the rain came.

I did some good things, and some bad things.
I cast up some more TL356-95-RF boolits for my wife's new M&P 380 EZ. My wife says that is the nicest pistol she has ever shot.
Cast less than a dozen 356-125-2R boolits and decided that mold was pretty well done for. It was my first mold and I've cast several thousand rounds with it. Since it was pretty well shot I decided I would try removing the lube groove with my trusty dremel tool. That didn't work out so well, so I ordered a TL356-124-TC mold to replace it. All of these molds being 2 cavity so they are dirt cheap.

Loaded up some 30-30 with 120 grain round nose boolits. Stripped some old crusted on alox off a batch of old boolits to resize and lube for later. Gasoline works like a charm for that. Got one of my lube-a-matics working again. The plunger came off the rod. Had a heck of a time getting it back on for some reason.

Last night I emptied the tumbler of once fired LC 556 brass. Its brite and shiny now.

I ran it thru the .256 mandrel die. Then thru the mighty decapper die and directly into the Dillon 600 to remove the crimp. Last steps where to the primer pocket uniformed and then flash hole deburr.

Lastly it went into the pretzel tub labeled 25/45 Sharps for future loadings.

Had a good weekend. Resized some 32acp slugs to .310, loaded 8 test magazines and found a goodish load. Cleaned my presses and oiled them, Partner that I prime on, RC2 that is my workhorse and RC IV that is for resizing lead bullets with the push thru adapter that someone here makes that takes H&I dies. My room is humid and hot in the summer and cold and dry in the winter, unless the diesel heater is running. So things skim with rust quickly, have to oil moulds often, even in a cabinet with tons of silica dry.

One thing I ran into was since I PC, the thickness ended up being ~.3637-.3640 for cylinder throats that .358 boolits fit snugly in with fingernail pressure ( I don’t have pin gauges). So I had to size them twice to get them to fit without shearing off PC. First in .360 then .358.

How do they shoot? I like 3.5 grains of TiteGroup with a 90 grain lead bullet in my 308 win. No kick what so ever and if I need some kick I make it 4 grains. All good for 25 yards.

I haven't tried them yet. Been raining for a while and the SO range is where I usually go. The ones I loaded w/ 5 gr. of BE shot into a tiny group @ 25 yards A bit high at to the right, but I didn't do ant scope adjustments, just shot to have fun. No, no pictures... altho I should have taken a few....

I was going to put the same charge as I use in my 9mm, but I'll save that for next time...

I loaded up about 100 rounds of 357 mag. I loaded them with a 125gr Remington SJHP and 17.0gr of 2400. I'm getting about 1290 FPS out of them in my 3" SP101. This is my new self defense load. It's stout, but certainly manageable.

Yesterday, before it got hot, I sorted a bucket of weights. Then I cleaned up the lead splatters on the shop floor left from last weeks smelting session.

Sorted 5 gal of range brass. Tumbling some now as well. Having a hard time keeping up with the demand now that my son is shooting more so I went to corn cob tumbling 9mm rather than decapping and SS pin tumbling. He has offered to help but his schedule makes it hard.

Avogunner...Those look nice! how do they shoot and what lube do you use?Tom, I size to .311 and lube with Thompson Blue Angel. Keeping the velocity to around 1500fps I get 3 - 4" groups at 100yds, sometimes better but my eyes prevent consistently smaller groups.
I particularly like this load for my '03 because the elevation is perfect (@ 100yds) with the leaf sight down ... for my eyes that's where I get the best sight picture.

That is one of my favorite loads. I recently picked up 1000 Rem 125g SJHPs and 4lbs of 2400.

I didn’t make any production today but I filled dozens of APS primer strips and refilled a couple of 1lb cans of powder from my 8lb kegs.

Beau Cassidy

The HP rifle bullets in this picture were sprayed. Depending on the size of the HP I dont aleays use airsoft BBs. They get stuck in the nose of the Hammer bullet but not in the SWC HP bullets. I prefer shake and bake but the pink and blue didn't so I had to spray it.

On Saturday, I loaded forty .225" sized, poly-coated and gaschecked Bator RN boolits into some reformed 22-6mm Remington brass for my newest wildcat Mauser 98 rifle. I'm going to try to get to the range this weekend to try them out at 50 and 100 yards after my monthly 200/300yd NRA Highrifle Match.

Nothing in, but a little outside. Took a friend to the range so she could get some practice with my 9mm CZ75 ( she is thinking about getting one ). I had at a few targets with a uberti 1875 breaktop in 45lc, and a Taurus Raging bull in 454 ( but shot some 45lc cowboy in it just for fun too ).

I just realized how bad the bases looked on my little .380 bullets. I knew I had a few spots when casting them.. not too worried about it since they are for 10 yards or less. Guess i lose style points for it. I can assure it my other bullets have much better bases.

Hey! It only got up to 108* yesterday, so I'm sure the garage was only 120* or so - with no air flow!
I need to rearrange the casting room in the basement, and you can come over here for a boolit casting day.

Find a company that replaces furnaces and get a squirrel cage fan from a dead furnace. I mount one blowing down the pathway between my benches and it allows me to cast comfortably even when the temperature is pushing triple digits.
