Lyman 4500 makes a real mess when you lube short 95 grain boolits. Got really fed up with it and switched to PC. Drained the lube from the 4500 and it runs great now.

Sized some 457193 boolits this morning and loaded them in 45-90 cases. Took them to the range for fireforming and a bit of practice. Decapped, washed, dried the brass. They're in the vibratory cleaner now.

Sunday, I loaded up 20 test rounds with MP300 powder for testing my 275gr Wide Flat Nose cast bullets in my RUGER 77/44. That would be 4 - 5 shot tests. 5 each of 21.5, 22, 22.5 and 23grs.

Then loaded up a 100 banger/practice/fun .38 special rounds for use in my .357. - 5gr of Bullseye behind a 158gr cast bullet.

Hope to get out to test the 77/44 this wed. The above loads and some 5 shot groups with the same bullet and Lil'gun.

H110 may well get the nod, but would like a bit better groups if possible.

Looking at present like the velocity will be in the 1600 - 1700fps range.

Busy cleaning my shop as we are going to get our house listed and "downsize" - try to get everything on one floor . . . it's heck getting old!

While I was cleaning, I set up my propane hotplate and smelted a little over 100 pounds of foundry type that I've had sitting in the shop in buckets for years. Kind of slow going as I only have a 10 # pot but I finished up this evening with around 55 ingots - poured them in a 8 muffin tin. At least they will stack well and take up a lot less room on the shelf!

Pulled apart the new to me (yet somewhat old) rcbs 44 mag / spcl carbide dies to clean. Ran them through the ultrasonic with simple green, rinsed, and then dunked into evaporust over night. Came out nice and clean after that so wiped them down, oiled them up, and tested by depriming a few hundred cases. Looks like they have lee lock rings (aluminium? ring with a gasket) which I am not a fan of, but oh well.

My favorite powder measure method for rifle loads. My cup is a 70's Tupperware - I card them off with a Randy Womack business card. Have you had split necks with NP brass sooner than unplated? With my .243 and 25-06 I have noticed this.(I don't load max loads) Best,Thomas.

played with a new NOE 311-230-fn 5 cavity GC ( BLKOUT), ran about 120 thru the mold on and off while doing a lot of 9mm bullets. Didn't look bad, few wrinkles but was getting better near the end of casting. Couple more heat cycles should be good. just need some culls to load up to try cycling in a 300 Blackout AR. It is one big Honking bullet. Beautiful Mold. Also PC all the 9mm bullets

Yesterday loaded 500(new starline brass) with tcj bullets with 7.8 grains of Unique. It is the most accurate load I have found for that bullet. 100 boolits powder coated 210 grain with 6 grains of GreenDot. Now for the range to dry up some and shoot some. Our range is usually floods during this time of year with all the rain. My NMBH is ready to get heated up.

Sorted around 3k nickel plated 38 Special cases by headstamp. Gave them all a tumble, bagged them up and placed them in a five gallon bucket for long term storage.

Have to do the same thing w/ around 8k pieces of yellow brass. And then there is close to 10k pieces of 357 brass that is completely mixed up.

I don't bother using 38 Special brass so I should have just thrown them all in a bucket and been done w/ it. I won't mind sorting the 357 brass because it will be used.

Still have lots of rifle brass that needs sorting as well. This is what I get for buying out an old friend of the family. He was very happy that it wasn't going to be wasted.

Ok you guys have shamed me into it.

I have been home recovering from a hip replacement and am now able to get to the man cave, down stairs.

Had cast about 500- 200 grain swc .452 boolits so i lubed them and reloaded 450 45acp rounds on the Dillon 550.

Then proceeded to load various loads of 38-40 (A continuation of previous load development)

RCBS 40-180 boolit at various dia.

Unique powder (same load wt.)

Some Spg Lube and some Tac#1

Then I switched gears once again and loaded up some 40-65 with black powder and some of Lee's version of the Lyman Snover bullet #410663, for testing. (Just got this mold unused from a member here last week) Hoping they do well- mold yields .412 dia. @ 410 grains.

Did notice a little nose deformation from compressing powder with boolit though. I'll have to get a 40 cal compression die and a larger expander for this one I think.

Now I need to get to the range for my physical therapy, 1) Sit for short periods of time (shoot)

2) Then walk for a while (Change and document info on targets)

3) Then repeat again and again! WORKS FOR ME!!!!:D:D:D

My hip will be better in no time!

I finally got around to trying the "load." 13 grains of Red Dot in 30-06. I used an RCBS 180 grain flat nose w/ GC and BLL. After my first 5 rounds I dropped the charge to 12 and had better results. I was shooting off sticks while sitting on a bucket at 90 yards. My groups equaled those I get with 16 grains of 2400. But of course 2400 is scare these days, so it's nice to be able to used Red Dot for low recoil shooting in the back yard.

double check the primer tube is lined up properly, and smooth out any burrs on the shuttle with some 1000 grit sand paper. Mine occasionally hung up until I did that. I don't have the ammo plant, but the LnL has been running like a champ. There's an excellent youtube video on tips and tricks.

I grumbled a little... I dropped a shell holder on floor, and albeit these are relatively HUGE, couldn't see it. OK, I grabbed my gorgeous Mag-lite to learn it didn't work. Huh? New batteries just before Christmas-time. Well, I unscrewed endcap, and but two of the three D-cells would drop out, both in mid stages of leakage. An hour and one half later I had front battery out -- had to solder a wood screw to a rod to pull it -- and then worked a baking soda on brush solution to try and save the light. I did. And, ironically, when I walked back into room I saw the dropped shell holder without needing the flashlight. Interestingly, the batteries were Mallory Duracells. To be OCD, I checked the flashlight upstairs, and while the batteries were nowheres as bad as those in my Mag-lite, these Mallories were in early stages of leaking. I wish I knew a way to prevent this... however, until I do, I guess the company with the bunny will be getting my dollars. Sorry for rant re this... but I'd have thought with all of today's techno marvels, NON-leaking batteries would be a no-brainer. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
geo P.S.: My plans IN the reloading room to assemble some 32 Remingtons were aborted: thank you. Mr. Leaky Mallory!

He is getting more supplies/equipment and we will spend another spell in the reloading room.

Nothing. Yesterday was a different tale. Prepped a wad of fired brass when back from the range. .25-20 SS, .38-55, lead and BP. First round with the .38-55, it's a threat to flies on the target. 300 grains of 30:1 might over penetrate?

That's been my mission today also. Working up a medium spicy load in .44 mag cases with 700X and a lighter Boolit. My new Lee 429-200 FRN six cav showed up from the Nitro Express yesterday so I cast a few hundred this morning and lubed with White Label Commercial. Was guessing at a starting load to zip around 1200fps and wound up a little hotter than desired. I'll dial back a couple of tenths and chrono again asap.

I walked through it and thought... "GOOD GRIEF! It's hot in here."

That will slow down production! Thank goodness I've got the coolest room in the house all summer... even with the AC off.

Well, I just looked at a bunch of reloads. I went through my ammo cabinet and took out my ammo cans to check my inventory, yep I was bored. 9mm? Nope don't need any of them; 4 loads to try and 100+ rounds of "good" reloads. 45 ACP? 3 new loads to try and 200+ rounds of my 200 gr. LSWC favorites. 30-06? Nope, 600 rounds of HXP, 180 rounds of a fav. load, and 4 new loads to test. 308? Nope, 2 new loads to test and 80 good reloads. Can't find components/tools for my 5.45x39. No bullets on hand for my 7.62x39. Prolly 1500 assorted cast bullets laying around. Ammo cans full of 38 Spec., 357 Mag., .44 Spec., .44 Magnum. Haven't shot my 7.62x54r in 5 years, nor my SMLE. I got waaaay more time to reload than I have to shoot. Oh well, closed the cabinet and got out a gun magazine...

We moved earlier this year and all of my reload stuff has been taking up room on the garage floor. This past weekend I built a shelf in the garage for the aforementioned reloading supplies. While doing so I sorted the boxes of random brass that I have collected over the years. I HAVE 9mm BRASS COMING OUT OF MY EARS.

SWMBO was very happy to see my progress in organizing the garage. ;)

Been more of a this week than a specific day but sizing and gas checks on some 324-175 cast I made back when it was cooler. When I have a bit of free time I hit the bench and run a few through. 10 - 15 at a time. Working toward a nice 4th of July weekend. While those 8mm boolits bake some powder coat I have some other projects in the garage that I can work on. Mason has a gun show that should make a nice break in the project work, I have some brass to trade so hopefully will get some I more 8mm brass I need.

TXGunNut,
I know just what you mean on slow going with Big Boolits and a single cavity mold. I decided it would be so much faster to turn out more if I had a master caster from Magma Engineering that would not only help on the larger boolits and single molds but also on the rest of my casting on smaller one and two cavity molds too. I cast this pile of 405 gr from my single mold in about thirty minutes, all but three were keepers.

130# of lead I alloyed up to be Lyman #2 turned out short of Sn and Sb when xrf gunned. Re-Melted and added some printers lead and pewter (plus plain) to get them up to 5/5/90 alloy. Of course adding more stuff in I'm ending up with 150# going into ingots. Destined to become .223 and other rifle bullets. Classic example of why I work in large batches when doing scrap, get some variation of ingredients so end up close, then dial it in. End up with a good supply of desired alloy sitting on the shelf.

Heading to the bench to size and GC some 8mm and maybe load some .223 now that I'm set with lead to make more :-)

Been frustrated loading 9mm. Have loaded tens of thousands, and now the recent ones won't chamber. The stick out about 0.040" and I couldn't figure it out. So I called the good people at Dillon Presion. Since station one, sizing, produces brass in tolerance that easily chambers, they said it was too much crimp. Fixed that and still had the same problem, so I reduced my bell to the bare minimum. Still have the same problem.
Changed from a 115 grain boolit to a 95 grain. Problem goes away. Same company, same diameter, but a new seating depth of 1.030" from 1.125". Haven't figured it out yet.
i have loaded thousands of the 115 grains.

Have you cleaned your dies? I know my 357 dies got clogged when my lube went south one time. I finally traced it out to a missing ingredient in my lube. the lube just kept building up and changed the sizing. Your problem may be just an overlooked step. Good luck.

Flare, bell, bullet diameter, bullet nose profile, seating depth, final case diameter. Your problem is one or more of these things. Crud buildup can be a cause. Case buckling could be another.

This is one place where a bullet nose comparator can help find or rule out the cause. I use the Sinclair lug nut style, cheap and effective. You can make a comparator with a drill bit size that matches the land diameter, and any chunk of flat sided metal.

Nice job Taco650 looks like a solid bench. I plan on adding a 4x4 post underneath my LNL to stabilize it a bit more.

Have no fear gentlemen, that old desk will hit the dumpster. It was left the house when we bought it and I had nothing else to use for reloading at the time so it got pressed into service (used built-ins at our previous house that got left behind in the move). It is falling apart, the leg joints come apart when I'm sizing rifle cases. One of the legs has been chewed on by a dog and the compartment on the left never held anything. It was a nice desk in it day but now just a rickety bunch of cheap wood.

I figure if a 30-30 can take a deer with a 150 grain bullet going 2200fps, then I can certainly do it with a bullet going 2500-2600 fps. Besides, it should kick a bit less and give me more control.

My goal was a lower kicking round as well. I also have read that the M-1 Garand rifle load was a 150 grain j-word at 2700 fps so I figured that was enough power for whitetails.

I don't think the 30-06 is a hard kicking round but I'm old enough now that my shoulders ache most of the time so I want to save them for as long as possible while shooting a favorite rifle.

New one looks good but old one will still work fine for gun cleaning, brass sorting, TL drying station, component storage, casting area.....yep, still got my "old" bench. ;-)

Most recently started casting from the 16lbs of approximated Lyman #2 I created from various scrap materials using the lead calculator to create the mix. Here is 400 126gr NOE 358135 hollow points for 9mm. They just need to be accurate to 25yds for paper targets. I'm tumble lubing with Recluse 45/45/10, sizing to .357 with Lee push through sizer, tumble lubing again for a Gen 4 Glock 19 with KKM barrel. 5.2gr BE-86/CCI #500 for all of my 9mm right now. It feels great and has been clean and accurate.

Received new RCBS dies and a Dillon powder funnel for 9x18 Makarov. With a mix of Makarov and converted Luger brass make reloading easy.
First round of PC 95 grain hollow points shot as good or better than factory ammo.
Tonight I'm replacing springs in my P64, so the single action trigger pull should be a nice 3.5 pounds.

Blew right through my "bullet trap" Which is only a 2.5gal jug packed with dirt.

I got to the range today with my 30-06 and those reduced 150 grain bullet loads. I only shot 7 rounds. They all went into a 1.5 inch group between 2 and 3 inches high at 100 yards. I couldn't see any need for further testing. This was the result I was hoping for.

Monday, loaded the last 50 finished NOE 225-55 in 223 cases. Dug out modified Darrs lube, .2257 push through sizer die and 22 GCs . Found it was getting late .

Well, it wasn't today, but over the last week or so I've taken a trip down memory lane with a MEC 600 Jr that was gifted to me a while back by the widow of an old friend from church... When I was fresh out of college (40+ years ago) he introduced me to loading for the 20 gauge with this very press! Now I've gathered up about 500 once-fired AA hulls and the appropriate ClayBuster wads and dug out some 30 year old Win 209s, Green Dot powder and #9 shot and with just a little tweaking on the die adjustments I'm turning out near-factory quality reloads. The 600 Jr is the most basic, non-progressive press MEC makes. Simple is good!

I've had that happen before. The rounds fed in one of my 9mm handguns, but not in the new one that I was going to be shooting. I ended up just running one through the seating die to seat it a bit deeper until I got to a point where it would pass the plunk test and then running the rest through after test firing that first one. It was a mild load, so I wasn't worried about the slightly increased pressure.

Used to own a house with a pool. Didn't use it much since for most of the year, it was too warm to even get into it. No shade, so the water just continued to heat up all summer -- all 9 months of our summer. Water temperature would get into the upper 80Fs and low 90Fs. I'll never buy a house with a pool in it again.

Spent time in my reloading shack today drinking beer and trying to find something. I know it's there *somewhere*. Obviously, I just don't have enough beer to be able to find it. I'll try to remedy that situation.

Neither load was especially accurate at about 6 inches at 100 yards. My Savage model 11 seems to like a heavier NOE boolit of 70 grain round nose. With that boolit over 5.5 grns of Red Dot I can get about 1.5 at 100 yards, I would like to try and get that down to 1". Tomorrow I will load some up with the 70 grn boolit with 6.0, 6.5, and 7.0 of Red Dot. I will also load some with other powders but haven't decided which to use yet.

made a redneck 162gr .308 caliber bullet by using 22-250 and 300BLK Full-length sizing dies and LEE .314, .312 and .308 sizing dies to convert a trimmed down 5.7x28 cartridge case and a 100gr 6.5 cast lead bullet into swaged bullet...

Why? Because I read about it on the Google Machine...And I had 1 of those 5.7x28 cases from a range pickup...

Busted my Lee scale and now need a new powder scale. Loading on hold at this time.
I knew it was a marginal scale and need to be replaced at some time but just not right now.

If I did it wrong you might see a two-hole, one-shot group... ;)

I loaded 49 rounds of .223 with BL-C(2) in batches of 7 increasing the load by about .3 grains with each batch. Then took them back apart when I found the primers were not seated fully. I had 100% FTF in the first set of 7, they would fire after the first hit seated the primer. Now after some more work on the primer pockets I have them re-loaded and ready for another go.

Going back and loading a couple hundred with varget and 70 gr. NOE bullets. If I get ambitious I may start sorting a bucket of brass by head stamp while watching the Olympics.

Loaded 45 35 Remington development loads w/ W748 for my 336. Had some loose primer pockets and I didn't feel like priming and processing five more pieces.

And the lovely conditions in my garage while I was reloading. Nothing like an 81 degree dewpoint.

Deprimed and sized 100 300WM brass in preparation for fire forming these for 458WM. Was over 105* on the farm today and needed to "chill-out" in the reloading room with A/C set to 85*. Dog days of summer here.

Watched a video about how to polish a single shot bolt. Then went and did it using my old Rem 514. Went up to 800 grit and it looks really good. All I have in the shop is a fan and a hour and a half in there and I was ready for a cold one in the house.

No air-conditioner in the shop? No beer fridge in the shop?

How *primitive*!!! :)

Used to drink all my beer while fishing. Only use I had for a fish stringer was to tie off a 6 pack at about 5ft. That's right I'm "primitive".:redneck:

My reloading-room is a combination office and reloading room, it includes desk, computer table and reloading table, gun safe and book shelf. Every once in a while the desk gets do full of stuff that I have to take some time and get it cleaned up. I find so much cool stuff that i haven't seen in a while and shuffle it to another place where it will be forgotten until the next clean-up. Meanwhile there are those moments when I need something from one of the stacks prompting another clean-up, resulting in more shuffling of stuff, and on and on it goes.

Finally got around to cleaning off the junk and dusting it. Still need to disassemble the LnL and install the strong mount I got from inline fab. Directions were a bit more than I was willing to look at when it first arrived so I've been stalling. Need to finish sizing all the boolits i've been casting so I can get back to loading them up.

After finishing the build for my first 300 blackout rifle, I cleaned the bench off and pulled the presses (quick release). All in preparation for sizing 10mm bullets and getting ready for my first order of power coat to arrive.

Picked up my old 38-55 at the gunsmith's today, not a loaded 38-55 round in the house. :-( Found some nekkid boolits and that was a good enough start.
Sat down at the bench beside my loading bench and the lube/sizer attached to the bench had BAC lube and a .401 die in it. I sized 100 38-40 boolits before changing out the sizer die for the 38-55 project. Ran out of lube before I finished sizing 38-55 boolits but found my missing 303 British brass while I was fetching another tube of BAC. :bigsmyl2:
Loaded up a few 38-55's over 30 grs 3031 and then loaded 50 38-40 rounds for the 92 that showed up a week or so ago. Need to load some BP 45-70's in the AM but it's looking like a pretty special range day tomorrow.

Sorted out a big batch of ss pin tumbled .303 British brass by the headstamps. Lots and lots and lots of .303 British brass. Some will be fire-formed into .410 Musket for my SMLE smoothbore, some with be fire-formed into .338 / .303 British for my Ron Smith rebored large action Martini, and some will actually be reloaded as .303 British!

Just used my new LEE#90697 6-Cavity, 45LC, 216gr mold for 1023 keepers. [CWW's] Water quenched, these dropped @ .453"ish which is terrific for our 45LC CAS addiction.

...then my custom Mountain Mold for about 650, .461-405gr pills for some IMR4198, .45-70 load development. [CWW's + 2% Tin] These drop water quenched @ .461", as designed. This vendor is tops!

sized all my 45 #68 clones to .451 and then recoated em in a batch of hitek to cover the spots rubbed off. did the same for the noe 40 cal boolits, now working on mounting the strong mount and then going to load up a fresh batch. Also cleaned all the 38 special brass I'd shot over the last few trips. Would've been faster if I hadn't dropped the towel full of wet brass on the patio....twice as clean now!

After working 18 hrs at the hospital, I waved hello to my gunroom and new bullet mold. I has been so hot up here in the Mitten that I cannot cast with my new mold and my asthma has been acting up, so shooting is on hold. Bummer for sure!
