Does anybody have experience or knowledge about the Mossberg 464 lever gun? How does it do with cast? How is the throat? Are all the barrels 1:16" twist or only the "tactical" versions? Lots of questions, need answers.

The actual owner reports have been good. I would get one. Twist is same on all models. I like the straight stock.

I had one for awhile, was a very nice rifle that shot well with boolits. Actually better quality in every way than the 2003 Winchester 94 I used to have. Sold it to a forum member and he seems to be happy with it. My one and only gripe about the 464 is that mounting a Williams receiver sight is tricky because of the rear receiver bridge and requires drilling, as I remember the receiver sight that fits is not the 94/36 but rather one made for pump and auto shotguns. If you are going to scope it or use barrel mounted sights the 464 is a great choice.

Honestly, if given the choice sight unseen between a new Remlin or a 464 I would take the latter. If I stumble across one at a great price again someday it might just go home with me!

I have had mine for 4-5 years and love it. It is the wood stock one, not that tactical one of course. It has shot well with every CB I have fed it so far at velocities from 1100 FPS to 2200 FPS. At 1550 FPS, the Lee 160 hits accurately with open sights out to 300 yards. Recently I have been shooting the Lyman 130 gr. plain base boolit at 1200 FPS and I can keep the gong swinging at 200 yards. The reason I have no problem shooting these round nose type boolits is that my RCBS cowboy seater die puts a nice flat spot on top of the boolit. My terminal ballistics tests with the Lee 160 gr. at the above MV indicates it would be more than adequate for deer out to 150 yards as well as being low enough recoil that my wife enjoys it.
One of these days I will put a Skinner sight on it instead of the factory sights.
