Last night a fellow I know stopped by to sell me a couple of guns. One of them was a Marlin 336 30-30 that his Ddad bought in the 1960's. The gun is not special in any way except that it is unfired. The gun was bought and stuck in the closet and never used, ther is not even a mark on the loading lever to show it ever had a shell in the magazine.

Now, do I put it up for sale to a collector or do I shoot it, with $350 in the gun I won't be hurt either way, but I really don't need a safe queen 30-30.

List it on Auction Arms or Gun Broker as "vintage," "classic," or some such, and emphasize that it is unfired. If current production moulds can bring big bucks on E-bay you might be surprised what somebody would be willing to pay.

I don't do "safe queens" but if I had it, I believe I'd sell it to someone who does. Then I'd buy something to shoot! Regards, Woody

Pistol gripped, 20" barrel 336 with Micro Groove, pretty much the standard Marlin 30-30 carbine. I'm not a Marlin man so I can't say exactly which variation. But it does have a GOLD trigger, whoopee.

Or you could just send it to me. I'd love to have a good Marlin .30-30. It'd save you the stresses of trying to sell it or having to work up loads for it.

If you wanted to make some bucks sell it. But it would make a lovely $350 hunting rifle. I'd shoot it. If it was a aprticularly rare model, etc, I'd pass it on to a collector rather then use it, but otherwise, as it is not a museum piece, shooting it won't hurt anything.

If I already had a 30-30 that I was happy with, I'd troll it out and see how much I could get for it, or what I could swap it for.

Nothing really special about a 336 carbine made in the 60's... especially if before '68 when they had 16, .002" deep grooves. I'd unload it unless I had a need for a 30-30 lever gun to shoot only jacketed bullets. The pre-55 336's are the cast boolit shootin' dynamos.

To each, their own....but I've never understood the collecting side of guns. To me an unfired gun is just not supposed to be. Kinda like unfulfilled potential; like a Ferarri that's never been driven. What's the point? JMHO:Fire:

I like shooting mine, but this sounds like a honey of a rifle. I would use it for deer hunting.

There are a lot of folks out there who collect unfired guns. Of course they never shoot 'em, but they hardly ever even look at 'em. For some strange reason, they just want to own 'em.

Since you aren't crazy about it, I'd sell it for a profit to one of these unfired gun collectors. It's hard for me to justify keeping a gun I'm not particularly interested in. JMO.
