A practically new Taurus 82 stainless for $265.00 has been under the glass for three months now at my favorite fun store. Comes with box and papers, not even a faint turn ring on the cylinder. I know Taurus doesn't have such a good reputation for QC but this is one they have made for decades with few changes and about the only one you don't hear many complaints about. This 82 is a US commercial market gun not one of the South American milsurps that have come in lately. I put it on layaway today. What do you think of them? Is there a certain boolit weight they prefer?

I had a Taurus 82 Ultralite and it was a fine--and I mean fine little revolver. It was the 2" barrel and cannot speak for the accuracy of the one you are getting, but the little 2 inch barrel on mine would clover leaf or one hole any factory load I put through it at 7 yards. I didnt put any cast boolits through that gun. At that time I was only reloading and casting for the .45 colt.

I now carry a little ruger lcp, but if I were to buy another revolver for CC, the 82 would be on the table as a viable gun. The fit and finish was right up there with any mass produced revolver out there.

Was yours actually an 85? I've never seen an ultra light or 2" barrel 82 before. My local shop sells bunches of 85's and gets very few back.

Sorry, my gun was indeed an 85. Good correction! ^^^^By the way, my dad and I rebuilt a Ferguson 35 when I was in middle-school. The engine was stuck, so we took the head off and and beat the cylinders to death with a block of wood, 8 pound sledge hammer and some tranny fluid. When it finally broke free, we took the lip off the sleeve, put the head back on (same bolts and gasket) and it fired right up. Very nice and powerful tractor--way ahead of its time.

Thanks friend. Mine is a 1955, wearing the later MF decals and paint. I think someone did go through the engine before I got it, runs great and doesn't use a drop of oil.

Seems like the Taurus .38 Special does pretty well. Any other cartridge not so much. Everybody I know who has had a rimfire Taurus has had problems, especially the 94 series.

Update: bailed out the 82 and finally got the chance to shoot it. This revolver is sweet. It loves my standard load of Lee 358-158-RF over 5.7 grains Accurate #5 which I feed my S&W 10-5 and Ruger Service Six. Trigger pull is really good and the sights appear to be dead on. I really like the factory grips, Taurus put some thought into them. They are comfortable but not bulky and ugly like most rubber grips. Way to go Taurus, might have to get an 85 to join it sometime.
