My wife and I lost our 12 year old, female black lab, Sissy to Lymphoma. She was a wonderful dog ! !

Here are a couple of photos of Sissy :

Sissy died about 6 months ago.

For several months neither of us felt we were even close to being ready for another dog. Sissy was like a member of the family and my wife and I were both left with " a big hole " that at the time just didn't seem like any another dog could fill.

Today, we felt it might be a good time to go and look for another dog. We looked at about 50 dogs today. We fell in love with Della.

Della came home with us today.

She is a Black Lab, Great Dane mix. She is 8 mo. old and weighs 50 pounds right now.

She has a wonderful temperament.

Welcome Della ! !

Good choice! I learned a long time ago to not trust a man that doesn't have a dog;-)

Looks like you did good.

Nothing like a good dog...or a bad one, for that matter...and you will never forget either of them.

Love labs, Misty died from cancer too at 14 years old. Had a couple after that and want a pup but right now I am not up to chasing after one.

I am fighting 5 ruptured discs in my neck that make sleep next to impossible. Partial paralysis of my diaphragm on the left making it feel like I can't breathe. So no a puppy right now is a bad idea.

The most loyal trusting people I've ever known had a cold nose and four legs. Great looking new girl friend you got there.

She sounds similar to my black lab / boxer mix. He's currently 5 and hasn't slowed down a bit yet...

Rick,

Wouldn't it be wonderful if all of our people friends had the loyalty traits of a good dog ?

We volunteer at the Carolina Great Pyrenees Rescue, consider adopting a young adult rescue, they can make great pets and they are through their puppy stage.

Nice looking girl. You've got a long legged hunter for sure.....I've had both Danes and Labs. The Dane was gentle & protective, the Lab wouldn't give up on a scent!

Good Luck!!

Our Cocoa is 11 and is also on her way across the bridge. Day hasn't come yet but soon. Until then she gets to sleep on the beanbag all she wants.

I have a request in with a local lab rescue for an adult. He has only had pups in for the last 6 months. Fun to go play with them but potty train them all? he has way more patience than I do right now! Most are trained before they leave his place. Basic potty training and sit usually. Some pick up more from his adult labs.

I feel your loss Ben. Losing my Lab was like losing a member of the family, except I liked the Lab more than some of my family members. It left a hole that simply couldn't be filled. Days of looking around still expecting your best friend to be there, you see em around every corner.

After a year or so of grieving, I had to get another Lab pup, and so the cycle will eventually repeat itself all over again.

Sissy looked like she was a great and loyal dog with a big blocky head. Della looks like she is all legs (she's going to be a tall one!) and will be lots of fun.

Enjoy them while they are with us. Dogs really are the only true and unconditional love that money can buy.

My thoughts are with you Ben.
We had to have our family pet 'Moose' put to sleep yesterday and are all reeling from the feelings of loss that has hit us all like a steam train. My wife and oldest son have decided that they want to fill the void that has been left as soon as possible but I feel a bit reluctant as it almost feels disrespectful to Moose's memory. Tough times and emotions running riot at the moment!

Here they are during happier times.

Think of it this way, would Moose want you to have another furbaby to look after you?

'Pip' 11 weeks old today.
Mother is a German wire-haired Pointer and father is a Labrador and both are working dogs. She is a fast learner and will no doubt have a higher IQ than me in a few months time, going by what she has picked up in the few days that we have had her.
