I've acquired a 600 Mohawk in 308 which is finished in a OD Green color, similar to some 03's I've seen. Does anyone know if Remington sold these rifles with this finish and to whom? I've been told they were sold thru several retailers; K-Mart, Montgomery Wards, etc. Was this finish specific to one retailer? Doesn't appear to have been blued prior to this finish. This gun has been sitting for 10-15 yrs as is, so if it was redone by someone, it was a while ago. Thanks, Dan

I have an older Remington 600 in 243......blued barrel, nylon rib, and walnut stock with pressed checkering.....cost me $75.00 in 1968 if I remember right....shoots great....very loud....never saw a green finish on the Mohawks that were released after the origional 600.

I do not know of any with green finishes, but I sure wouldn't say rem didn't do it. You will likely have a better chance of getting an answer if you post it in the factory rifle forum.

I had one in 6mm I foolishly let go. It was a good shooter, but they were weird looking and I have a 6mm 788 which is really a better rifle.

I saw a Mowhawk in .243 not long ago, didn't seem to be asking a bad price, I probably should have bought it. A .308 would be much more desirable.

One of the first high power centerfire rifles I ever shot was a Rem 600 in .308 with a Weaver K3 scope on it. Two teachers used to shoot at a county gun range near my parents house [about 1967-8] and I would run or bike down to the range whenever I heard shooting. They let me shoot my first muzzle loader [I remember them using dish detergent for patch lube/bore wipe] and were bench testing the 600. Asked me if I wanted to try it and of course I JUMPED at the chance.
I now see how just letting a youngster 'try a shot' with one of your guns can steer their life hobby. One shot was all it took. Lots changed since then but let me say I've owned a few 'gun lathes', rebarreled my own rifles - chambering and all, contouring etc, and well, I've shot about 60 deer......with about 35 different cartridges/rifles.
You never know what letting a youngster 'take a shot' will do. : )
I've been looking for a Rem 600 in .35 Rem,....or let's just say I'm "keeping an eye and ear open" for one : )

I had two 600 Mohawk's around the late 70's, a 243 and a 308 , both were bought at the LGS , blued hardware with a walnut stained hardwood stock with pressed checkering , they were both very accurate ! the 308 shot every bullet weight excellent from 125 to 165 gr with 748 powder.

Isn't the 600 a centerfire??? There was a Remington Mohawk in rimfire that was made in 3 or 4 colors. Can't remember if it was the 10c or the 77 with the plastic stock . I had both of these but mine were brown. I say a green one once and the black/chrome a couple of times.

One variation of the nylon 66 was called a mohawk too, might have been the 77.

The Nylon 66 rim fires were sold by some of discounters of the time. I purchased a GREEN plastic stocked version used. My research showed that the green ones were from KMart. All the 600/660 were blue/walnut
