My first anything with a cast boolit. I've killed them with home poured round ball but never with a smokeless cartridge.

Headed out this morning to some public land. Shot this one from the ground. 90 yard offhand shot with my 30.30
NOE 311165 did a great job. Bullet exited so couldn't check it out but the exit hole was as big as my pointy finger. He folded up at the shot and didn't even twitch. I was really surprised at how little bloodshot meat there was. Less than the size of my palm I'm guessing. Used a 50/50 mix of ww and pure. All I can say is wow.

Hell of a nice buck! The right bullet is half of the equation, placing it well closes the circle. Lead bullets keeping the larder filled is heading into its fifth century of being.

Not too many bucks like that in Arkansas, and to get one from public land is a real feat!! Pouring your own is addictive.

Very nice deer! It's hard to explain how satisfying it is to take any deer with a bullet you cast yourself to guys that buy a box of factory ammo every five years or so. And you did it the hard way.

I just have to add my WOW to those above. That is a fabulous deer in anybody's book. Great hunt, great story. Should be in Outdoor Life magazine. Well maybe not because everyone would start casting their boolits and demand for molds would send the price through the ceiling.

Snow? Come to think of it, it does seem a little chilly today. Might need to stick my hands in my pockets or go find a long sleeve tee shirt instead of the short sleeve I have on.

awesome post.
i keep reading thread like this and wanting to make a cast kill myself
no luck with deer in MA, shotgun and muzzleloader for firearms only. i really want to use a cast cartridge.
this year i'm making it a point to hunt anything i can legally hunt with some cast boolits and my revolvers or my 1894 in 357.
can't wait to make a thread like this
congrats man! awesome thread and awesome hunt. hope you have many more like it

I have a .38-55 Cowboy on its way from a gun broker buy. I may have to really take a long look at those skinners that are on it. Got the factory sights also with it. Lots of different type rifles being sold on there from ESTATES. Not a good sign for shooting sports members as the family's getting rid of some ones guns and things.

Nice deer be careful that thing can bounce off and put your eye out.
I will have to look at my Winchester top eject to see if a peep sight will fit without drilling any holes.

Friends call me Pac

Mine is a 94 Angle Eject and no drilling required. Not sure about a true top eject though. I sure do like my Skinner.

I also was thinking of testing some Ltd under a cast bullet. Do you have any idea what type of velocity you were getting with that load?
