Was @ H&H in oklahoma city last week. They said dillon is putting 550 primer system on the 650 soon. I want a 650.

H&H is a 90thousand sq foot gun shop with restaurant inside.

I'd bet anything they were feeding you a line. That'll never happen!

Why would they make the change after all these years? You'd think w/ the "complaints" they would have done it a lot sooner.

Lots of folks like the 650 wheel priming system better than the Star inspired primer systems used on the Square Deal, 550, and 1050 presses. It's kind of a love it or hate it deal.

Forgive the ignorance but what is the difference ? I run a 650 but have never seen a 550.

l told em to do it 8 months ago. They said it would save them time & $ in manufacturing.

The 550 system is a retrac primer system if primer is not used. Also the Dillon Super 1050 is retract system too.

The only thing I didn't like about the 650 priming was the silly little ramp for good primers. I recently found a device on ebay that corrects that. It mounts where the used primer cup would be and has a tube for used primers that fall down to a soda bottle that I have attached to the bench. The good primers drop into a little bottle. No other problems.

Yea, dragonrider (a great invention/mod) l had that too, better than floor. I'll buy another 650 when they make change.

Do u have ebay roller wheel on case feed ramp guide? Or whatever they call it.

So, If they do update the 650 to have a primer system like the 550's, I wounder if they could update a current 650. Or would that not work? Probably would have to send your press in for conversion. I don't mind the current priming system, but I liked the priming system on my Square Deal b better.

I bet you could buy the head/part and change it at home, Ya just need the Dillon alignment tool to re-install correct.

Mark my words, it'll never happen. The XL650 was designed around the wheel based primer shuttle.

+1 !

Unless some part(s) are made of resin made of ingredients that come from a now extinct plant or element from who knows where, as AK says, it ain't gunna happen!

I'll second this.

Despite the cries from a few owners the wheel type system is superior in my opinion than the scooter type primer system you find on a square deal.
When I owned a SQ I was always replacing the feed parts on it. I can pick a thrown primer off the floor that my 650 occasionally throws better than I can continually rebuild the junk priming system like the SQ.

I don't like the fact that every time I pull the handle a primer is "used" on the 650
Other then that I like the 650 wheel setup.

It would be a step in the wrong direction. The 650 has the most fool proof primer delivery system of them all. I would rather have the same system on the 1050.

In fact the complaint you hear is that they always feed primers.

I keep a zip tie looped around the fail safe bracket that I can hook over the primer index arm if I want to shut it off.

I would take what H&H said with a grain of salt. I never cared for the place for numerous reasons. I will be in OKC this Friday to pick some personal stuff up then on to Tulsa.

Take care
