New here, I have been lurking for a while.

I went to the tire shop today to get a tube for our tractor, and asked about their wheel weights. I was redirected to a Hispanic man that said he will be glad to sell me a 5 gallon bucket.

I asked him how much he wanted for the whole bucket. He said $10. I couldn't get my money out fast enough. We loaded it up, I asked if I could buy more and how long until they had another bucket. He told me to come back in a month.

Totals of the weights were
zinc: not enough to cover the bottom of a 5 gal bucket
Fe: about 1 inch in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket
COWW: I'm going to guess it was about 35-40 pounds
SOWW: guessing again, 45 pounds

I call that a good deal. I think I will be going back a couple times until I have a decent stock pile. I also got 90 pounds of range scrap the other day in about 1 hours work.

My concern now is how to harden the SOWW to use for pistol and rifle subs. If I read right, the COWW and RS is good to go as is, although I will probably mix them evenly in the pot when I go to cast bullets (just keep the ingots separated and mark them).

50/50 coww/pure is a good general use alloy. Treat the SOWW as pure. The range lead may work just fine as is. Cast some boolits and see how it does. If it casts well and weights are close, try it out. You may need to add some tin for mold fillout. Great score!

You could just mix the clip on and stick on. I think you add 1/3 the weight of clip ons in soft to the mix.

Thats a good score. Find out what that Hispanic fellow likes for lunch or to drink. That will help keep those buckets coming your way!

Download the alloy calculator in the sticky. My most recent alloy is 7lb COWW, 4lb soww & 2oz pewter. It is shooting nicely in 380 & 9mm.

If that bucket was full, I think you got more than you reckon you did. Great score for a sawbuck!

Good score, Lately around here 85% steel & zinc but I still keep them coming. I sure like the WW mix. What area are you in?

I am in Northwest Oklahoma.

I think I am going to smelt the different types separate for now.

I can mix an alloy when I start casting and see how it goes. I am a long way from casting for my .40 pistols, I have 4000 plated bullets I bought before I wanted to cast.

I am going to cast for .300 blk soon. Does the BHN really matter much if I powder coat the rounds?
