howdy , can someone have a old Lyman reloading manuel as I require the AOL for cast from a 200 gr .38 special lyman mould??

My oldest Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook (1973 edition) shows max. O.A.L. for the Lyman 358430 (195 gr. plain-base RN) as 1.549" in the .38 Spl case.

In .38 Special with a 215 grain cast GC-SWC, 3.5 grains of Unique gives about 700 fps from a 6" revolver. 3.0 grains of W231 gives very similar velocities.

i usually profile crimp approx .003 less than the case diameter .

I use a normal roll crimp.

The specific dimensions given in your question indicate, to me, that your dealing with something we "normal" shooters call "minutia". Normal crimp to you may not be normal to me, but there is a consensus. Unfortunately, the consensus does not have a specific value.
Do you actually measure your crimps and compare them to uncrimped cases?

A 'normal' roll crimp is one where the case is rolled into the crimp groove and no more. An excessive roll crimp is one where the case is rolled into the crimp groove to the extent that the case/loaded round shows a banded and ringed condition, commonly accompanied by a sliver of brass sheared by the crimping process.

Well, I had to try it out since I'd gotten one not too long ago and got "Buckshot" to HP one of the cavities for me. So far I'd poured some boolits with it, but didn't seem to get a good fill around the HP tip. After seeing this article, I decided I'd give it a try. I tried the HP slug with GC, without GC, the non-HP boolit with & without the GC.

I could not believe how good this slug shoots in my old S&W Mod 15 (dash nothing, and old pinned, 4 screw police trade-in gun). The best group came from the HP with no GC, even though the HP was not formed well on any of them - uneven wall between the HP cavity & OD, but it's not an offset center HP pin, as the thin part of the wall has a different orientation to the parting line of the mold on each slug.

The load was from the Fryxell article 3.3gr of Unique, mid-way between two of the loads he used. At 10 yards 4 of the 6 shots went into the same hole with it opening to maybe 1.5" total. For me, it was the best I'd seen in a long time.
