Well I guess there is no going back since Ohio finally passed the straight walled cartridge law this year. Both were taken with a 357 Max. using AA1680, and a NEI 180 gr. group buy from a few years back. Lighter, more accurate, less recoil. There is nothing that I would change about that combo. Now off to do some skinning.

The .41 Long Colt is among the allowed cartridges chambered in a *rifle* for hunting deer in Ohio ??!!

.475 Linebaugh is allowed, but .500 Linebaugh is not allowed ;-(

LOL

I agree there are some things they could tweak. It would make more sense to change the wording to state the same as they have for handguns, and make it straight walled .357 caliber or larger.

Congrats on your two does, fresh venison is always good.
that's what the they did in MI, too. .35 caliber or larger, but they also have a restriction on case length, from 1.16" to 1.8" max.

Congrats on your successful hunt. I always grumble when legislators pass limitations on calibers to be used for hunting. Most of them haven't a clue what they're talking about. It's like all the other gun laws we have...utter nonsense. They have to look like they are doing something good and it always winds up being stupid and wrong. Does gun control work? No! Does making it illegal to use a lead bullet make any real sense at all? No! I, for one, would like to know why we always take it lying down. We should be standing up and telling them we won't stand for people who don't know what they're talking about making laws to oppress the rights of law abiding citizens and bow to the anti idiots who really are out of touch with reality. End of my rant.

Yes, it is a magnum barrel I reamed the chamber out to the max. I had it fitted on a rifle frame.

Congrats! That Handi rifle set up looks pretty light weight for packing purposes. Does it recoil much in Max version with the load you mentioned?

Not at all, it is like shooting a .223 rifle. I am not sure what the weight is as I did not weigh it before deer season. I did let a co worker borrow it yesterday, and he got 3 deer with it. He had broken his collar bone at the beginning of September, and said he did not notice any recoil or pain, even though he does complain of irritation to the bone quite a bit.
