Recently acquired one, a 24C, .22 LR over 20 gauge. I've only done some limited plinking offhand with it s far. I like the little gun so far.

Anyone have experience with these combo guns. Besides the 99, these are what first comes to mind when I think of Savage. Really hoping this one works out well as a general hunting gun.

I have one that is 22 over 410. I like it alot. I put a peep sight on it.

Does the shot barrel regulate with the rifle barrel OK? Curious as to how slugs will work with the sights on the rifle barrel.

The old Savage 24s are great rifle/shotgun over/unders. I just wish I had come up with a 30-30/20 gauge combination before they became "pricey". I enjoy my .357/20 gauge as an all round carry gun when woods walkin'. richhodg66 you will like your Savage 24.

I've got a 24 DL in 22LR over 20 ga w/ peep & scope

I'd love to find one in 223 over 20, 30-30 over 20 or 357 over 20 for a reasonable price.

Their replacement model 42 leaves me cold

It would be neat if someone came up with a model with interchangeable rifle barrels over fixed shotgun barrel.

I have a Savage 24 Predator with the synthetic black stock in .223/20ga. Was looking for the same thing in 30-30/20ga. when I stumbled into this one used for $325. Seller needed money and for that price I couldn't turn his down. The open sight seams well regulated between the .223 and the 20ga. Not exactly the deer hunt combo I was looking for, still would like the 30-30 upper for deer, but don't regret what I ended up buying. Some day might get to trade even for the one I wanted.

My kids grew up with M24's. 22 mag/410. I still hunt turkeys with a 223/20 ga. Love 'em!

Now that I can get .22 LR ammo again with some degree of regularity, I'm happiest with this combination. A .22 Hornet over 20 would have been perfect, as I have been working with .22 LR duplicate loads in .22 Hornet and can load it cheaper than buying .22 LR ammo.

I really hope this works well with slugs. Most of the deer I shot are within smoothbore slug gun ranges and with some of that Colibri super quiet ammo I tried in it, I could pick off squirrels while on a tree stand without spooking the deer too much.

Artful, that's a nice set up. Can you shoot the 20 gauge barrel with that scope on it?

My get back gun. I can carry a bag with 500 22 lr shells and a mix of 100 20 gauge, slugs, #3 Buck, 6 shot and 4 shot. I need to replace the cheap red dot with a peep but is works well. I just wish it shot 3" shells but what it does it does well.

I have a 22/410 and had flip up sight on it when I lost the pin for the sight that was on it and love it it was the first gun I bought in the mid 80's.It is good with 00 buck shot in 2 1/2" .

Not recommended for two reasons - one the eye relief with the scope isn't enough when shooting slugs so at some point you'd wind up with a half moon scar over or in your eye brow - and second the scope mount just goes into some grooves on the 22LR barrel so not really solid for heavy recoil.

I bought a M24, 22 over 410 at our local swap meet about 5 years ago. I thought I paid to much for it, at $200, but it seams that they have gone up quite a bit. I have shot the 410 a little, but shells are a little pricey. The 22 shoots very well and most of my shooting with it is with 22.

I had the 24F .22 Hornet/20 ga. 3", wish I still had it. Very versatile firearm for a reloader.

Good friend has a 12ga/30-30. He sold off all his other guns, but kept that one and a shotgun. He has taken numerous deer with it. Don't think anyone has enough money to buy it from him.

Happily, I have two Model 24s: the first is a .22 Magnum over 20 gauge with iron sights and the second is a .222 Remington over 20 gauge with a 2X-5X variable tapered post scope. The new Savage M42 looks like a plumber made it, in my opinion.

Artful, I have a 22 mag over 20 gauge and have fired 3" turkey loads in it with a scope on it. I have the adapter bases that go from the grooves to the Weaver style ring. Two screws in each base and they clamp on very securely. I would not try it with just the groove bases.

While I love the concept of 12 ga - the extra weight over the 20 ga frame is a turn off for me.

Those model 24's have been in my stable since the 1960's. I still have my 222/20 and the 30-30/20. I hardly use them anymore but they certainly proved their worth in the past.

I ran across one of these at a local pawn shop. .22/20 ga 2 3/4 and 3 inch. The stock was more of a lighter blonde color. They had $300.00 on it.

Looked like it would make a heck of a tree rat gun.

I have a minty 222 over 20 gauge 24V-A. I took my second deer ever a long (long, long) time ago with the 222 barrel and a reduced load 50 gr bullet (as a teenager then, I theorized that a reduced load for an MV of 2300 FPS would reduce fragmentation and increase penetration). The deer might have taken three steps after hit. Later that 24V went to college in Oregon with me and took plenty of ducks, pheasant, a few geese, grouse, and a couple more deer with rifled slugs.
