I came into a Winchester 94 ('29 vintage) and I have some Unique powder and I was wondering if anyone has a good load for this powder and bullet combo?

This is a Lyman LFN boolit which casts in ww between 103 to 105 grn with two lube grooves. It is a dandy boolit in my Ruger BH in 30 Carbine but now I am loading for the levergun. Can anybody help here?

I also have red dot, clays, titegroup and Varget powders along with some AA 2 & (9.

I am only looking for a decent plinking load as I will not hunt with this round unless it is a target of opportunity...read that rabbits or a woodchuck.

Thanks, Dan

10-12 grains of Unique. I use 10 grains with a Saeco #316 150 grainFP for a good plinker. No need for filler.

You can also use the same charges with Red Dot. Just be careful not to use too much. From what I understand, the RD reaches peak pressure a little faster. Don't want to max out that grandfather.

I made some up with 10 gr of Unique and the 103 gr LFN boolit.

I also made 20 rds. with 26 gr of Accurate Data 2200 powder. That is the same load I ran with a 32 Winchester Special and a 160 GR LRN boolit.

I will chrono both loads but I expect the Data 2200 load to be a mite slow. I am more cocerned about excess pressure and I will work up better loads slowly and carefully.

Thanks for your input.

10 gr. Unique behind a 311465 shoot into less than 2" at 100yds out of my 10" Contender.

10 Gr. of Unique and a 150Gr. boolit shoots very good out of my vintage 94.

You might go with 7.5 or 8 gr. Unique if the 12 grains proves to be inaccurate. I had best luck with 8 gr. and the 100 gr. variety. Any more & the groups started to spread until I went up to a 150 gr. and then the 12 gr. was OK. Each gun is different though.

Crash,
Since you are looking for a plinking load I would suggest 5 to 6 grs. of Unique for about 1,200 f.p.s. There should be happiness there.:-D
