Ok so I am not an idiot I hope, however I am about to get a mosin soon and have been reading up on the reloading stuff for that caliber. What I can't find is the dies for 7.62x54 I can find them in x39 but not the 54. Should I be looking for a different size that does the same caliber? Thank you guys.

The x 54 is absolutely what you want for the mosin. The x39 is the AK / SKS

Lee has them. Try Titan Reloading at the top of the page.

Try 7.62×54r or rimmed, not Russian but rimmed.

I'm pretty sure Lee makes them.

That's what I bought not too long ago.

Yea I have been looking for lee. I have gone almost every where local. I forgot about titan reloading. Just trying to support locally First before Going online. It is nice to know I am not crazy. I have one more place to try and find them locally. Everywhere I have tried so far doesn't even have a spot on the shelf and look at me like I am crazy when I ask.

Just happened to think of this, try Bass Pro. If they have them on their web site they will ship your order free to your local store.

My dies are lee. I haven't found a company that makes neck sizing dies though. I had to replace the deccaping pin because it sized for .308 bullets not .311 which is what you need. If you press a bullet in and it's a little blued to one side you will need a new pin. Whatever does you get I would measure the pin.

Looks like they have 9 in stock at Titan. If you want to neck size with a Lee collet, you have 3 options. You can use a .308 Win collet die and put a washer between the die and the shell plate, use a .303 Brit collet die and shorten the collet a bit or just partially size the neck(how I do it), or get a custom one from Lee. Others use a Redding bushing die or just set up the FL die to neck size only.

This is the link for what I use. Mine slugged at .312 and I use the lyman 311334 in mine.

Mine came from Lee and I ordered the "special order" .311 expander plug which replaces the .308 in the expander die...I think the .311 plug was just a few bucks (like under $5)...lee lists it right on the page with the die set...that let's you seat the projectiles more easily...Works fine for me.

Here is the lee page on the die set and you can look in the description and find the link for the 303 caliber expander which is the .311 expander..works right into the dies for the 7.62x54...don't know why they keep hiding things like this and also why they use the .308 expander in a caliber that is .311...guess it's a safety or lawyer thing..good luck

I own the Lee die set that comes with the factory crimp die and also a Lee loader for neck sizing. With a 31cal M-die for expansion. They work well for me. One thing on the Lee seating die is that if your using cast boolits the size that fit Mosins your going to have to hone out the center bridge section as mine would either stick the boolit or swage it down if .313 or larger. Not hard to do, I just used a mix of tooth paste and valve grinding compound on a wooden dowel chucked in a drill motor. GP

I just ordered a lee set from graf's. $32 and shipped with the rest of my order of brass and .311 bullets. Leee also makes a neck size collet die. I use one on my 7 x 57 and they work great. I have rcbs dies for my mauser, but much prefer the lee collet dies. Graf's charges 7.95 per order or 9.95 if you call them instead of online. They also had two scope bases I needed at 2/3 the price of somewhere else I had been looking. They didn't stock the lee collet dies that I could find. tho.

I picked up a Lee set of dies and did the same as stated above, ordered a .311 decapper unit from Lee. I also use a Lyman M die for cast, it's the same one I use for the .30 cal stuff. My bullets drop at .312.5 so I gas check with a .313 sizer to lube and seat. Everything seems to work great. I may try beagling the mold to get them to .314 and size down to .313.

They are out there. I believe I got my Lee set from Amazon and the RCBS Neck Sizing set from Midway as I recall. One thing I could not find was a Lyman M die for 7.62x54, but I did have an M die in 9mm so I contacted Buckshot here on the forum and he made me a expanded plug for the M die. Works great!

Got a Lee set I bought at pawn shop years ago.

Think they still make them. Check midwayusa, brownells, midsouth shooter, cheaper than dirt, anyplace that sells dies should have them.

1. Slug your rifle. I've seen anything from .308-.314. Mine is a M44 Hungarian and slugs a tight .310.

2. Take your pick from die manufacturers. Every company makes them. I have a RCBS neck sizer purchased at a gun show for 5 bucks. I have a Lee set purchased years ago from Southwest Shooters Supply and called Lee to have a .311 sizer sent to me. That was around 8.00 with shipping. I use a M-die from CH4D. CH4D and Redding have neck sizers that accept Wilson bushings. Lee has their collet die as stated by previous posts. I like CH4D neck sizers that are not cartridge specific. Hornady I believe has something similar. Forster will hone their die to your fired brass. Send them the die, three cases I believe, and it costs around 12.00 bucks. They are my goto dies if they make whatever I'm shooting. If they don't make it, CH4D or RCBS/Huntington die specialties handle the bulk of obsolete or wildcat stuff. I wish Lee die bodies were longer.

3. Have fun! I believe it is the most underrated cartridge for what it is. I may work with an improved wildcat on an Encore platform.

Take care

I have the Forster, RCBS, Lee, and Lyman dies for 7.62x54R.
The brass I use is 7.62x53R Lapua.
I have been messing around with Mosin Nagants for 12 years. The guy that got me into it have been for nearly 50 years. I watched him shoot his antelope last year and this year with his Mosin Nagant.

One can usually find used dies on Ebay:
