View Full Version : Will a Lee 170 cycle in a Win 94 30-30?

I was thinking about picking up a set of dies to make a box or two of plinking rounds for my dad's post 64 30-30. The Lee 170 is the only .30 boolit I use and it works great for the 20 or so rounds I use a year in the 30-06 for hunting, but they look a little long when seated with the GC in the neck. Also do the 94's have any problems with oversize bores? I don't want to really go down the rabbit hole for this one.

Just found this:

Looks like a lot of folks have had good luck. Any other info would be appreciated!

Looks like my M-Die for the 30-06 might not work, or will it?

Might need a .308 M die if you can't screw the -06 expander down far enough.

I use the Lee 170 in 30-30 over 30.5 gr Imr 4064. Shoot these in a 336 with ballard rifling. Seat them to the crimp groove and You should have no trouble.

It has worked in every one that I have tried, total of 8 of them between mine and several friends that have the same model rifles.

You'll never use another bullet in the .30/30 if you try them...
You can use j-bullet data.
I prefer RL15 @28.0gr. Gives ~2,000fps and kills deer or anything else you'll poke with them as good as anything you can use.

A high recomendation from someone who prefers the .35Rem.

They feed through both my Marlin/Glenfield M30 and Winchester M94. However, they can "hang" in the ejection port of the Marlin. They can be extricated, but take a little "manual manipulation".
I recommend seating to the crimp groove and crimping with a Lee FCD die.
You will need a "Short" "M" die.
I suggest getting a Lee "Universal" expander and call it "done"... Although the M-die is the best there is... expands the full neck to proper size for "lead" boolits.

I use my 30-06 M die for my .30 WCF's.
