Rcbs sells #9 shell holder for .35 Remington and all others Lee Lyman ect say it uses the same shell holder as 06-308. I'm putting together a gift package for my younger brother for Christmas, he doesn't reload yet but loves his .35 and know that he shoots idpa he wants to for his 9mm. So being the guy in the family who does roll his own I'm making him a ready to go gift set for those 2 cals. I have a extra Rcbs 06 family shell holder on hand will that work?

Yes it will. The 308 family groove extractor diameter is .409-.020 and the 35Rem is .400-.020 which isn't by much but enough to work with a 308 shell holder.

I convert the 308 into 35Rem all the time and I never machine the extraction groove, but I do state that on the thread.

Just look and read this..http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?238582-35-Remington-Brass-from-308-1x-fired-Mil-brass

For reloading a larger rim works better. Cases made from .308 brass might work better than original .35 Rem cases.

A larger shell holder may permit the rim to bend or pull off.
You might get a larger shell holder that is even sloppier than standard and it might not work well with original .35 Rem brass. I have read complaints about this from the users of Lee dies that come with the Lee shell holders.

The RCBS #3 is for the 06' family of cases. I've loaded 35Rem and still have the die set buts it was a long time ago. I don't recall using a different shell holder for it though.
