Anyone have recent experience with NEI molds. I have one about 33 years old which has been an excellent mold. I have heard that they have had problems since with quality. They have an large selection of molds.

The guy who ran it (can't think of his name) died some time back and I believe his daughter took over. Haven't heard any recent news, but there was a period after his death when things were not so great.

Walt Melander started the company. I have about 6 Smith carbine moulds from that era.

I have a mold made by Walt for my 358 Win.
A fantastic mold.

I've not heard good things about NEI of late ? ?

there are plenty of threads here on the subject. Many of which Blammer or I have posted upon.
I suggest you seek them out, they have photos substantiating the following statements:

I have a number of NEI moulds cut by the late great Walt Melander. They are works of art.
The current crew at NEI would be better served cutting lawns than moulds.

caveat emptor.

I ordered a 30 cal PP mold several years (after daughter took over) ago that was billed as casting NST .301" with COWW. Nominal cast diameter turned out to be .295". When a replacement was requested I was refused and told to "wrap more paper around it".

Never again.

Walt's son-in-law (Patty's husband. Good to work with. Dang it I can't remember his name.) has been learning.
I've had good work on some recuts and think I'm gonna get another done.

With the quality moulds we're blessed with by a few custom and semi-custom mould-makers around here it's easy to forget that it takes a lot of talent to make a quality mould.

Howdy Ben,
Live and learn I guess. There are to many superb mold machinist out there turning out high quality molds to worry with folks to much. Accurate, NOE and Mihec get my business now and I've never had a problem with anything they've built.
