I am trying to put together some mild practice loads for my 5 Shot Bisley 45 Colt using 340-360 grain cast bullets. I am looking to use one of the powders I have on hand: Unique, HS-6, Blue Dot, AA#9, Longshot, 231 or ? Target PSI is 30K - which gives me a cushion of 20K. I just can't find any of this data, with these powders and heavy bullets...maybe it isn't feasible. Plenty of data for these pills with 4227, H110 and Lil'Gun, but those can be brutal after a bit.

I was wondering if someone with Quickload could run some quick numbers for me. I don't know what info you need to work with or maybe it's too much to ask, as I have never seen or used it.

Thanks

Where do you get a max psi of 50,000? Quick loads show 14,000 as a max psi for the 45 Colt. 5.5 grs of unique gives you around 13,047 psi and is close to a max load.

OP is using a 5 shot .45 Colt Bisley, which can withstand roughly the same pressure ceiling as the .454 Casull @50,000psi.

Almost all the load manuals list Ruger Only loads for the boolits and last 3 powders you listed which top out around 30,000psi.

You can get into the 75% ~ 90% power range with 17.0gr 2400 with a 1.680" COA and the Lee C452-300-RF boolit (320gr checked and lubed in 50/50+2%).

I am seeing 1,000fps with the same boolit and COA with 20.5gr LilGun out of a short barreled Vaquero.

It is a waste of time and materials to attempt "practice" loads with heavy for caliber boolits because they need to be flung rather hard out of the barrel so they will spin up enough to stabilize.

Whatever you do, DO NOT download W296/H110 for this purpose, this powder needs a high load density to be safe, and DO NOT use Unique or any of your other faster burning powders for this.

Those boolit weights over a light charge of fast powder will very easily turn that beautiful 5 shot cylinder into a GRENADE. Same as firing into a plugged barrel. Expanding gases need a rapidly expanding volumetric area, such as a much lighter boolit moving down the barrel or pressures could become extremely high without warning.

It's a 5 Shot Bisley...

How fast? 1100 FPS? Full bore is 1400+ ... I doubt they need that much.

Just use the Ruger Only loads, they are fine without having to deviate from published data, so you know you are safe.

You can check Lee Martin's site, singleactions.com in the articles section. He has an article on 5-shot 45 Colt and data.
