Got my first whitetail today. Last day of the first IL firearm season. I had already passed on a few button bucks. There was about 15 minutes of daylight left and a nice two year doe walked into sight of my stand. I decided I wanted my tag filled now and didn't want to mess with the 2nd season.

Shot her head on at 30 yards with a Mihec solid 45-270-SAA over 13.5 gr hs-6 out of a 5.5 Ruger Bisley. Bullet entered above the shoulder, destroyed the heart and half a lung before exiting out the abdomen. She stumbled backwards about 20 feet and keeled over. Got her all dressed and checked in. Off to the butcher after work tomorrow!

Nice job with your revolver! Had to be a good feeling to get your first like that. Congrats.

Welcome to the club!! Doubly so, first deer, and with cast!

For me a good doe with my 45 is more satisfying than your average buck with a rifle.
I guess it's all about the challenge.

Nice shooting, and loading and stand selection. I vividly remember my first handgun deer. You will never forget that moment!

Congrats, nothing like a heavy bullet to put a deer down.

Hey I always said "If it's brown, it goes down." Can't taste horns in the crock pot anyway!

Well done sir!

I have decided my tags will be filled with a revolver or not at all this season!
