Does any one use fillers with 5744. I have found that unless you use magnum primers and tilt the rifle barrel up to place the powder next to the primer I get a few hang fires. Currently using 5744 in the 43 Spanish.

Use rice krispies cereal on top of the 5744, Let the bullet crush the cereal. Use the cereal in
straight walled cases only, the 43 spanish has a slight taper, so it will work. It will smell like
your baking cookies when fired.

5744 is a great powder. I've used it a lot in 45-70. I was concerned about unburned powder too. I talked to a tech there and he was very insistent about never using any fillers. I had been using dacron before talking to him and he said I was just lucky. A ringed barrel or worse is possible. I ended up giving it a good crimp with my sizing die and shaking down the powder before shooting. Still a little, but much better. Just passing along what I was told by the tech. I know many use a filler, but I just don't need to take that chance.

I have used shot buffer in many other cartridges without any problems, but have heard not to use it with 5744. Rice krispies sounds like a good idea.

XMP 5744 is a high volume of nitro. Do they now just call it 5744?
