Buffalo Arms copy of the Lyman arm sight - anyone know approximately how much movement each mark (vertical) causes?

I can't help, but I hope someone can, because I'd like to know too. I've got a new sight waiting to be installed on my Browning 1895, but I haven't been brave enough to drill holes in that pretty receiver yet.

Jim, mine is in 405 Winchester, how about yours?

We probably ought to plan to get together.

That will depend on the sight radius. Can you accurately measure the distance from one line to the next?

Sight radius is 27". Rough eyeball guess with calipers says .044" between the lines.

Six inches at 100 yards, then (5.86 to be a little more exact).

Thanks, that helps a lot!

Interesting, after looking at the whole thing more closely I realized that there is not a consistent distance between the marks. There is an increasingly larger distance between the marks as the elevation increases. Just thought it a curousity.

Mine is a 30-40 Krag. The 405 sounds interesting. I'll pm you about getting together to shoot.

I have a .30-40 Mod 95 Win with this sight and find the 6" change very close for the 100 to 200 range change with a round nose 215 grain bullet at 2200 fps.

I have one of the repros on an old, molested by bubba Russian contract 1895. Providence doesn't say what the marks or spacing are for in the instruction, just state to sight it in and make note of which marks correspond with a given distance. Don't be afraid to break out the drill and get it installed.

If I had to guess I'd say that's an attempt to compensate for increased drop at extended range, because velocity decreases. There's only one way to find out how accurate it is.

Hey there Wayne -- I found no rhyme or reason to the sight graduations. I just made up a sight card for my given load. For those guys thinking about mounting one of these Pattern 21 sights, you just need to drill one hole. The "A" hole in the picture is factory to the rifle. In the old days Winchester used an 11x36 tap for the threads in this hole. You just need to drill and tap the "B" hole.

A nice touch with the reproduction sights is to tap the factory aperture hole so you may use various threaded apertures.

Hope this helps. Best regards. Wind
